We really loved the atmosphere in Bellagio. The excelsior splendide hotel we stayed in was great so central and the streets cobbled lanes exciting to see. Great shopping and loved having Aperol Spritz on waterfront- watching people go by. Ferry visits to mennagio/tremezza/Varenna. Easy and good to see. E15 each.
Had two nights at this hotel in beautiful Bellagio on Lake Como. Nice room on the third floor with uninterrupted view of Lake Como from our window. Electric shutter on the window was a great idea at night. Reception and public areas ok. Location outstanding right opposite the vehicular ferry and in the centre of all the action. Now the problems - elevator did not work on third floor so had to stop on second floor and walk up (including with luggage). Internet did not work in the room but fine in the public areas. No tissues in the bathroom. Mattress was so hard I ended up with bruises on my hips from pressure when I slept on my side. The included breakfast is very average and the coffee is totally undrinkable, probably the worst I have tasted anywhere. Draw your own conclusions.
This hotel is centrally located across the road with lake views (if you book a lake view room). The clientele seems to be a little older than my husband and I - really a pensioners paradise as you can get full and half board (meals included). Our travel agent booked us for brekky and dinner but dinner has been a disappointment so we will not be eating in the hotel any longer. The rooms with lake views are very big and the bathrooms moderate. We are on the top floor so the view is wonderful. Wifi is sketchy and you need to ask for the password as it is not automatically given or is a map of the town. The hotel has a bar across the road on the lake that make superb Expresso martinis and the bar staff are great as are the dining room staff. The food let's it down.
On the plus side this is a lovely old hotel with some really helpful and kind staff. It's located in a great position right by the ferry and perfect to sit in the cafe opposite and people watch. It has a pool (small but very clean) and the room was basic and fairly quiet (at the back ...) On the not so great side the hotel struggles I think to really warrant a 3 *...the room was quiet ...until breakfast prep very early...the loungers by the pool are in desperate need of replacement and the 2 "rattan" chairs with a table between them right by the poolside had huge holes in them defying anyone to be able to sit in them. The garden really could do with some tlc. This is not a modern hotel which is why I chose it...the quirkiness and few outdated features were part of the charm...BUT speaking of charm I have absolutely no idea why the elderly reception lady (Mary?) is there...she clearly took a huge dislike to us and despite many attempts to "win her over" she honestly could not crack a smile .. it really isn't nice to be somewhere where you feel so unwelcome. A much needed course in hotel hospitality is long overdue. Bellagio is a lovely lovely place to visit and I can highly recommend it.
Booked a room here at the last minute due to a mishap at another establishment – had to change hotels. Based on internet-based reviews, I would not have selected this place. However, we had a “splendid” time. Really loved the classic décor, amazing grand stairway, lovely pool and garden setting out back, good breakfast (great coffee) and, best of all, the unbelievable views from the room. I would highly recommend it – get a room on the high floors for the views. Close your windows in early mornings if you want to sleep – much noise from car ferry just below you. We did not use the “room and board” option – beside breakfast, we ate meals elsewhere. The hotel restaurant was largely deserted at lunch and dinner time. If you are so inclined, there is an adorable black and white border Collie in the neighbor’s yard, behind the pool garden. This dog literally tosses you a moist tennis ball, covered with dirt, through the fence, for you to toss back into his yard. Quickly retrieved, repeat. He doesn’t tire of this game, but you might. Have fun!
We recently stayed at this hotel on our first visit to Lake Como. The hotel itself is charming and displays an old world atmosphere. The room we had provided everything we needed for a pleasant stay with a balcony to admire the lake. The only thing we could have wished for was a small bar fridge. The breakfast by far was the best we experienced on our trip to Italy complete with freshly baked bread and my favourite - Nutella 😋 There was also a gelateria next door (owned by the hotel) which was amazing. This hotel will always hold fond memories as this is where we got engaged!!!
Hi Readers. Stayed in August 2017. Party of three (wife and daughter). Arrival is spectacular as you cross the lake from Cadabadia to Bellagio. Breathtaking!. Over a weeks stay you wont get used to the lakes size, its massive. Please book the trip to St Moritz, the journey is amazing. Hotel is very good with a historical feel. Dont look too close and you'll be fine. Pool garden is nice but be aware that there are nasties at Como that bite, especially at tea time. We had many bumps that required scratching. There are plenty of tours and we recommend the boat tour to the island but not above the others. All are good. On a personal note regarding the Hotel Splende. The staff are amazing, and we can say personally that LeAnne, Luca and Freddy were and are destined for greater things along with the other guys whos names escape us. To Note The Splendide and Bellagio go hand in hand. A perfect harmony. No need to book the Grand Hotel up the road.Hope this is ok help. Martin/Collette
I booked this hotel at the last minute and they were very good about accommodating us. The location in Bellagio is wonderful. We had two of the attic rooms and they were very small and extremely basic but the views from the balconies were really nice. It's hard to judge what the other rooms are like. The pool was nice but a little more landscaping would make it much better. The breakfast was very average. Overall the hotel could pay a little more attention to the details that make a hotel great. It was a good choice for us this time but I might look for a different hotel if we go to Bellagio again.
We were driving from Germany to Italy and booked 2 nights here in Bellagio. It is located across from where the ferry arrived so it was easy to find. It oozed old world charm as so as we entered the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we given a room on the second floor (but without a view of the lake). The lift is very small so it was two trips with the baggage. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with high ceilings and good air conditioning (useful as it was very hot when we were there). The bed was comfortable, and the shutters were very effective - we awoke at 8:30am in total darkness. Breakfast was a buffet in the restaurant - a good range though with only two hot dishes. Two good coffee machines too. There is also a cafe area across the street looking out over the lake. There is a pool in a grassed area on the hill behind the hotel. Most of the shops & eateries are up the stepped laneways leading from the foreshore - good news is its always downhill back to the Splendide. Oh - and free WiFi is provided. All in all - a very comfortable stay in a great location. Recommended.
We selected this hotel because of its central location , amenities and value for money. We stayed for one week at the end of July and had a lovely room with small balcony overlooking the Lake. We were very pleased with the hotel facilities. The bedroom was well laid out with good air conditioning and the ensuite bathroom was perfect. There was a good selection of food available for Breakfast. The Staff themselves were always helpful and attentive. An added bonus was a lovely outdoor swimming pool and sunbathing area. We had stayed in Bellagio on 4 other occasions over the years but this was definitely the best value for money. While it is a 3Star hotel if you are looking for a good base, at a reasonable cost, in which to explore the beauty of Lake Como then you will not be disappointed with Hotel Splendide.
