We were a group of 8 friends traveling from Canada, on a quest to snorkle with the whale sharks! We called Casa Kootenay home for 11 nights. We are a seasoned travel group, and Casa Kootenay met all our expectations perfectly and then some. The previous reviews gave us great confidence to book, and we couldn’t help falling in love with this sweet gem. The location is perfect, we enjoyed our brisk morning beach walks. The breakfasts were tastefully prepared with Mexican flair. The pool, the hot tub, the internet, the rooms, the furniture, the courtyards, the flora, all spotless and manicured. But it’s the roof top that completes the magical experience. The sunrises and the sunsets will always be in our minds, thank you Leanne, for your warm hospitality, daily advice and flexibility, Ayla, our speed bump, Alma our darling chef, and Jene, our smiling housekeeper, Until next time. Bless Up!
We were taking a quick trip to La Paz and instead of staying at a regular hotel I thought it would be fun to stay at a bed and breakfast. Bed was super comfy (important for me) and the breakfast was unbelievable. When we checked in Leeanne asked if we had any dietary restrictions. I said I was gluten free so basically avoiding flour tortillas is all I required. So there is yogurt, cereal, fresh fruits and juices. THEN a cook made something really delicious that I hadn't heard of before. I will have to ask Leeanne what it was called because I don't remember. The next day there were a plate of fresh muffins on the table besides the regular stuff, plus a delicious soup with rice and a chicken salad. Why not have soup and salad for breakfast? It was great. Then she tells me the muffins were gluten free! Is that not just the nicest thing ever? And of course that was delicious too. Already, above and beyond, right? But while I was there I needed to call my eye doctor in the US because I was having a problem with one of my eyes. I asked if the situation was urgent enough that I should go back to the US right away, or if it was okay until my already-scheduled appointment in 3 weeks. They wanted me to go to an eye doctor in La Paz. So, my Spanish is muy malo so I imposed on Leeanne to call around and find me an eye doctor. She made an appointment for me and rearranged things so we could stay another night. After that appointment they wanted me to make an appointment for a specialist and she had to make that appointment for me as well. The place is beautiful and right on the beach. We did get some relaxing-on-the-beach time in between all that and it was very nice. We were the only ones there! If you are interested in active water things they have all kinds of toys but I am all about relaxing and it was the perfect spot. And Leeanne is the perfect host! Thank you so much for all your help and treating is so well! We will be back!
We had a great 3 day stay at Casablanca Kootenay in March. Our room was comfortable with delightful decor. Lee Ann is a wonderful host who knows all the right people and places in and around La Paz and her breakfasts are fantastic. There are several comfortable places to hang out on the property including a fresh water pool. We'll be back.
The room was clean and fresh, the grounds and pool were first rate. It has a nice upper deck to look over the bay. A mangrove swamp is about a 15 minute Kayak ride and they were included with the room. Thumbs up!
We took advantage of our older son's spring break in April and decided to take a trip to La Paz. We had such a wonderful time during our stay! The place is open, relaxing with communal area, and our boys (age 5 & 7) freely roamed around the place as soon as they woke up. They loved the owner, Leeanne, and they followed her around (lol). There is a big but super gentle dog and 2 little turtles, and boys really enjoyed their company. My husband and I loved sitting on the rooftop facing the water. It was so pretty and relaxing. The Casa has direct access to the beach, so we took a walk every morning, collecting shelves. You can borrow stuff for beach (umbrella, towels, life jackets etc) so it was really convenient, too. We also went kayaking one morning - so enjoyable! It is located close to Malcon (less than 10-min drive), so very convenient. Our typical day during our stay - have home-made warm breakfast in the main kitchen, stop by the local supermarket to pick up snacks, this was another fun activity for the boys, hit the beach (Blandra, BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL! - 20 min drive from Casa since there are no accommodation near the beach), come back to Casa to freshen up, then head out to Malcon. We were mostly on the go, but it would have been also nice if we relaxed at Casa. There are good eatery options, and Leeanne will show you all that! She also made sure that we would secure a spot for swimming with whale sharks (also fun!), and any other excursions. The place is tidy and clean, and you can also do your laundry there for 50 pesos (or something reasonable).. The rate is a bit higher than hotels, but it's worth every penny! We moved to a hotel in Malcon Area for the last 2 nights, but we even considered extending our stay at the Casa (unfortunately it was fully booked). Highly recommend for couples and families!
My husband and I drove from San Jose del Cabo to LaPaz to see another area of the Baja. We stayed at Casa Kootenay based on all the solid reviews, and now we have to add our own 5 star review. The property is 2 kms from the start of the Malecon, in a quiet neighborhood, right on the beach. The common area, including the pool, garden, rooftop patio, is an oasis. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was served in the main house dining area, family style. Every breakfast was different and delicious. By far, the best part of our stay was being looked after by LeeAnn, the owner, who speaks English and Spanish. She had great dining recommendations, and helped arrange the excursion we wanted by making a bunch of phone calls. We are definitely returning, and are recommending Casa Kootenay to our friends and family
My Husband and I stayed at the Casa Kootenay for the beginning of April... 16 nights!!! YES! Back home for a bout a week now and we wish are still sitting at the garden table drinking cervesas and "dobles canales" (don't know if that's spelled right, but who cares, they are delicious and dangerous... you get day tipsy with those, but it's vacation, so who cares, you can siesta. ) Leeanne and Herman are wonderful hosts and welcomed us in with open arms and warm hearts. Leeanne and Alma made the most amazing breakfasts every morning and Jennie does an amazing job cleaning our rooms. We were quite pampered. I have never stayed at a "B&B" before and had my reservations, I have always felt that I was invading into someone house... way too weird for me. But Casa Kootenay is different. Never felt invasive or uncomfortable. Always had a space to ourselves even if Leeanne was fully booked. You can socialize and be introverts, whatever you feel like. Even hotels are not as private. The place is amazing, you feel secluded, but not stranded. The pool, rooftop patio with amazing views of the sunset and dolphins never get old. Leeanne is also amazing with tours, activities and knowledge about La Paz. She can help you find anything, she even helped me with going to the doctor for a bout of bronchitis. For the excursions, she booked a whale shark tour with Eduardo Tours, and he picked us up right at the beach in front of the Casa and dropped us off there too! No need to stress about finding a pickup/drop off spot somewhere random in a city you dont know. Really, what I am rambling about, I could go on, is this is simply a GREAT place to stay. Simple. Hope this sways your choice. :)
Casa Kootenay is a wonderful place to stay in La Paz. The rooms are SUPER clean, the beds are very comfortable and the breakfasts are big and delicious. Leann is a great host, with tons of information on restaurants and things to do in La Paz. The beautiful sunsets from the rooftop deck are a bonus!
We stayed for 2 nights in March and loved Casa Kootenay. Leanne is a great host and has created a relaxing and colourful home for herself and her guests. There are only 4 rooms and so there is plenty of space to relax by the pool or on the rooftop with views out to the bay. We also enjoyed using the kayaks to cross the bay and explore the mangroves. The B&B is a little out of the centre of La Paz, it is walkable or the taxis are cheap (the locals use Uber) plus there are shops and restaurants close by as well. We used the outdoor guest kitchen (which is very well equiped) to prepare dinner one night. Breakfast was excellent too, including the desserts! Highly recommended
From start to finish Casa Kooteney was the Bomb! Leann and Herman are just great people. The place his clean and very well kept. I couldn’t have done better than here. I will return! Watching the sun rise and set from atop was great their breakfasts are a real Mexican treat. Easy to find, super safe, and right on the beach! They helped with all my additional needs of references to tours and dinners. What a lovely couple
