A highlight to the lodge are the giraffes who roam in front of the cottages. The cottages are rustic but comfortable with no phones or TV. They are spread out from the restaurant. Reception is in a separate building & closes at 7:00. Internet is available in the restaurant building only. They also have a separate building containing the bar along with a pool area.
The road to the lodge is not very good for city car (5-7km) and the place is a little bit far away (However Hluhluwe is only 20km) The place is nice and rooms are ok. The food is very good. WiFi is available at dining room only.
We stayed at Bushlands as part of a game viewing trip to the hluhluwe umfolozi game park. The accommodation was literally in the trees amongst the birds and resident wildlife. Well maintained boardwalks throughout make it a truly bush experience. We were able to spot giraffe, zebra and buck during out early morning walking trail on the property. The establishment is so child friendly making it an ideal destination for families! The room was clean with all the main conveniences provided. Bathroom was on the small side.
From arriving through the gates we were in the bush. This reserve has wonderful non predatory animals, zebra, giraffe, buck, nyala, dykers, warthog, birds galore and we even saw a huge rare eagle owl. Wow. Watching the animals at the water hold from a purpose built hide with seating, was a bonus. Accommodation was clean with all mod cons. No TV but who wants TV in the bush? Plenty to do with game drives etc. so not really much time to watch. There is WIFI, they have a fabulous' hotspot' on the decking near the bar and boma. Food was good and plentiful, staff and management could not have been more helpful. Will return.
Lovely quiet place but lacks WiFi and TV in rooms. Service at the bar a bit slow with ice and glasses before the tourist buses arrived. Room comfortable with much needed air con. A reasonable second option if places in Hluhluwe are full.
Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Meals are great and represent traditional South African meals. Staff are very friendly. Great break for families or a quiet getaway. Great place for birding. Nice viewing deck to watch animals at waterhole.
We stayed one night as a stop over spot on our trip to Phinda. The area is lovely and there is small game throughout the reserve. You are able to walk within the reserve as there are no dangerous animals. The rooms did the job and have aircon. The bathrooms are a little tired though. The food was very good and the options were quite broad.
A non-pretentious, peaceful lodge amidst a gentle game park with zebras, nyalas, giraffes... Suitable for those who want to spend a day or two or more in African nature, in a comfortable log cabin, sit by the fire in the evening ... and conveniently located close to Dumazulu Zulu cultural village and Hluhluwe game park... Book a game drive with them; their guides are amazing...
We were part of a Grand Circle tour with 41 people, we staying here for two nights in room 24. It was at the end of the boardwalk, the last room before needing to take a shuttle. It was a pleasant unit with living room and bedroom, a refrigerator, and front and side porch. Morning and night two Red Duikers ran around in front of our unit, and one early evening we were surprised to see 3 adult giraffes, 15 feet from the boardwalk path right near our room. Meals were buffets with an excellent variety and all staff were friendly and helpful. There is a nice viewing deck, with roof, and chairs and tables overlooking a water hole. It is truly an oasis in the bush!
An oasis in the bush. What a pleasant surprise. The Lodge was unfortunately fully booked at the time of our reservation with a large group. The management (Courtney and Tracey) were fantastic and assisted us with a self catering unit, but arranged to include us in the breakfasts and dinners. Although they were catering for the group we were discretely settled so that we did not feel swamped, but were included in the activities which were arranged for the group at dinner. The service was attentive and the food (buffet dinner on first night and 3 course on second) was most enjoyable. Tracey ensured that we experienced all that the Lodge had to offer. We had thought that the wooden walkways only led to the accommodation units, but lucky for us we were taken down one of them and what a treat awaits at the end. An upmarket hide, overlooking a water hole which provides a never ending display of game and birdlife. So special. Thank you for the attention to detail and a most fantastic stay. The Lodge is within easy driving distance to the Hluhluwe Game Reserve and Bushlands offers game drives if one does not wish to self drive.
