The room is not small for 2 people. We were a group of 3 friends so it's a bit tight but manageable. The hotel set the toiletries for 3 people too. It's only 5 minute walk cross the road to the commercial area, 20 minutes to Kumamoto Castle. There's no international channel but we didn't watch TV anyway. The price is very good for this location.
This hotel is located in the city center where you can find all you want for travel in Kumamoto. The hotel itself is not a small one, so you can feel you're in the middle range of hotel even though room is small. The breakfast is reasonable and room amenities are fine. Most of all, if you plan to travel to another part of Kyushu such as Fukuoka, Kurokawa or Yufuin, you just need to walk 3 min to the bus terminal. Shopping streets are near and you can find the best restaurant as well near this hotel. So, if you are ok with small room (as usual in Japan), this should be one of the best option!
1st time in Kumamoto and just stopped for one night before starting our road trip. We landed in Fukuoka and took the train down which was comfy and easy, on arrival the hotel was just 10 mins by taxi from the station. Check in was efficient and smooth, hotel was clean and quiet; location was perfect to explore the city on foot. A great ramen spot just 5 mins walk near the river side, walk a little further and the covered shopping street has got everything you might need. Would have liked to spend another night to explore further - lovely city.
I stay here in kuma room for one night. There were so many kumamon's items. I took a lot of photos, and had a great time. The location is good, too. Staff was helpful ,recommended a nice restaurant .I wish to come back here again in near future.
We had a great time at this hotel, the staff were very professional. The hotel is well located (very close to the bus terminal in the city center), very good wifi, cheap coin laundry, very clean room which was well equipped with fridge, safe and even trouser press, a phone charger and ethernet port.
We stayed in Kuma room for 2 days in this trip. The price is reasonable when compared to the other hotels with Kumamon features. Neat but not very spacious, as usual in other Japanese hotels. However, my kids really loved it.
We appreciate every staff of this hotel, they are warm and willing to help us with patient. We were facing the problem of typhoon in Japan, they help us to check the weather, call the hotel and car rental company, helped us a lot when we were rescheduling our journey. Car park crews were also helpful and caring, the carpark for residence visitors is only 1100yen per day. I highly recommend this hotel due to their friendly staff!
From the JR station, we took the tram and found that the best stop is no. 8 (Karashimacho) and not no. 7 which was our choice since it looked a deceivingly shorter route on google. Alighting from the tram at stop no. 8 (facing the covered shopping arcade, walk towards your right, cross the road at the traffic lights and the hotel is just a minute ahead. We arrived around mid-day before the check-in time at 2 pm. We were prepared to store our luggage at the hotel, but management changed their mind and decided to let us in earlier. This was appreciated and set the tone for a pleasant stay in the modest and spotlessly clean room. There are eateries along this covered arcade which meanders northerly to the Nikko Hotel and the Tsuruya Department store. There is a food court in the store as well as the basement supermarket selling cooked and fresh produce. A Japanese breakfast at the hotel in the morning was a good start to the day. It was solid traditional fare and those who prefer a Western breakfast should go out to the cafes in the arcade for more choices. We used the hotel as a base to visit Hitoyoshi since trains were not running to Aso. We found the tourist information counter at the local/express section of the train station more helpful rather than the one at the Shinkansen train section because they seem to have more relevant maps and the train reservation office is just conveniently next door.
We have stayed in Mitsui Garden Hotel in Nagoya so we thought this one in Kumamoto would be similar. We are wrong. The hotel is located right in the middle of two tram stations so unless you are taking a taxi you need to walk for a brief distance. The Karashimacho station seems to be more convenient where a covered shopping arcade is located. Since the hotel is not close to any other restaurant we spent all our dinner at the Shinshigai area. The hotel room is of reasonable size and the breakfast was more or less standard for a 3-star hotel. Not much surprising point to note.
The location was really goot. The hotel is close with downtown. But the room was a bit small and I did not know that paying parking bill is not added in the invoice. Except this two things, other parts was really good.
