We were in room C14 ground floor, great view, very very quiet, room kept very clean, even in August the room was cool enough without air con. The staff of this family run hotel are lovely very friendly typically Greek they just want you to enjoy yourself. Good to see that everywhere had been repainted since we were there in 2015. The pool is very clean and is not very busy. The food was ok but the drinks were a bit expensive.
Golden Star provides a quiet, central location for enjoying the island of Kos. The food was decent, the facility was clean and the rooms were adequate. AC is extra, but works well. The mattresses were on the hard side. The shower was challenging in that water cannot be contained to the basin due to the open nature of the shower curtain simply pulling around the both the toilet and shower area. Be prepared for not placing paper in the toilet. With these considerations known, the Golden Star was an enjoyable stay!
We arrived on Saturday 10th June 2017 to a lovely warm welcome from the owners. We are well versed in Greek and Turkish resort appartments. Yes they are basic accommodation so if you require The Hilton suggest you book The Hilton ! On arrival we requested top floor ( tip; having nobody above you will be quieter as movement of furniture and even walking around will be heard especially if late at night) So we had room A17 which overlooked the rear views of the lake and farm area close to appartments . There are no early morning cockrals or dogs barking you will be pleased to know. Actually at night the appartments are very quiet, as the music played in the bar area daytime and nighttime are at a very low volume. And the bar area was closed by 11.30pm anyway. During the day the pool area is very quiet and at times we were the only couple using the pool !! Perfect for us as it really felt private. Sunshine is around the pool area uninterrupted from 8.30am until 7pm. Shaded area can be found and parasols are there too. Sun beds are free, well padded and easy to adjust mechanism to sunbathe or read. Garden area and kids play area is well away from the pool area so if there were kids there using it, you wouldn't be disturbed when they did. Rooms are large with fridge, cooking rings, sink, crockery etc. Tv in room has a couple of English channels( news channels bbc world news etc) Shower room, wet room basically as even with shower curtain closed you are towelling off in an inch of water on the floor. But as I have said we are used to that abroad. The appartments are about 20 mins away from the main high street where the Tavernas and bars are located. But that is perfect as you have a nice stroll into town, and the appartments are located in a very quiet area with no neighbouring hotels. On route you can turn left out of appartments and first left again walk to the top and turn left where restaurants start almost immediately. If you come out and turn right the roads are a little more dusty and at a couple of points you are advised to have a mini torch. Too many restaurants to mention but "7 Days" is a more traditional Greek ding experience and " The Kitchen" could be easily located in Londons Knightsbridge area. (Tip; we tended to share a starter, own main meal, share a desert, bottle of wine was around €40-55) The lower end of the high street has a very nice cocktail bar that you get a perfect Margarita made with fresh lime juice not cordial. Also recommend not paying extra for your transfers from airport if your booking a package holiday.Taxi to Tagaki is €27 door to door. It is around 20 min max. No stopping off at various hotels which adds time to your arrival. Hopefully if you are reading this it will help in getting an insight into the area itself, and the location of Golden Star, and all in all a perfectly situated appartments away from noise but a short walk to a nice busy small town with great restaurants and bars. Finally. Others things to note ; There is a very big supermarket at the top end of high street. Make sure you visit small village of Zia, for lunch and seperatly an evening meal to catch the sunset views. Hire a car for only 2 days to get to see the whole island easily. Busses to Kos town are 25 mins and are €2.10 per adult per each way. Enjoy your stay and keep suntan oil on always during the day. Average temp for us was 29 degrees.
We love, love, love this hotel. The rooms are clean and tidy, the owners warm and welcoming. The pool is gorgeous and quiet and a nice bar selling great cocktails 😆 Thank you to Rula Yanis Harris and Marielena for their hospitality. 10 minute walk to Tigaki this is a great base and we wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Yanis and George have done a great job of creating a hotel very well suited to the needs of people visiting this very nice small resort. The rooms are very clean and well positioned for views etc. The swimming pool area with bar is very nice and a lovely place to hide from the highest temperatures.
The hotel is a bit away from the both the beach and the Main Street but it only takes a 15-20 minute walk to both. We stayed in c block which gave a view of the mountains and salt lake. The veranda got sun from late afternoon. We ate at the hotel several times. The fish bbq was fantastic. While we were there there was a thunderstorm which lasted all day and again we ate there. I had spaghetti seafood which again was excellent.the rooms were basic but very clean and all we needed. the maids came in every day. If you had gone fully self catering you might have struggled but we only ever had coffe, bread butter and cheese for breakfast it was all we needed.the hotel did have free wifi but only in the public areas, we could not get in c block.
The Golden Star is a hidden gem. The rooms are clean and well apportioned. The food is also excellent, particularly the bar be que fish night. It's also a short walk to the host of restaurants and bars and the beautiful sandy beach. Most of all I recommend the Golden Star because of the warm welcome and hospitality of Rula, Yanis and of course Costas.
We have visited many Greek islands over the years and stayed in a variety of studio rooms and can honestly say that our room at Golden Star Hotel Apartments was one of the very best. Our room, on the ground floor, was very modern and spacious. It was a twin bedded room with a sofa, built in wardrobe and dressing table area with mirror. The kitchenette area included a fridge, two ring cooker ( no oven) and a kettle. We did not cook but made good use of the fridge and kettle. There was also a small table and three chairs. Even with all this furniture there was plenty of room. There was a small area outside which was also furnished with a table and chairs as well as a clothes drier. The bathroom was immaculate. The maids came in everyday to empty bins and change towels. We did not use the pool as the chlorine hurts my husbands eyes but the pool area looked very well tended. The whole hotel was modern and very well maintained. We were room only so did not take breakfast but ate in the hotel on BBQ night. There was a buffet for the salad and starters. I had chicken kebab and my husband had a pork kebab , both served with a baked potato. There was no entertainment. The hotel is in a very quiet area about 15 mins walk from the beach and about 7/8 mins from the main street. The free WiFi connection was good. It is a lovely hotel and I would recommend it.
In 2014 we stayed at the Tigaki Star so knew the area well, the Golden Star is a lovely typical Greek Hotel. The breakfast was the best we have experienced in 25 years of visiting the Greek Islands, it varied a little bit each day but usually there were bacon, eggs cereals, fruit, jam, feta, tomato, yogurt, honey, toast, rolls, cakes, olives, tea, coffee orange etc. The rooms are enormous, 5 of us stayed in 2 apartments, each apartment had 3 rooms, living with kitchen area, bed & bathroom, they were kept very clean. We had a balcony looking out to the sea which was a beautiful view. There was a large fridge a 2 ring stove top, kettle, cups & plates etc. so it was easy to make your own Greek coffee and a proper cup of tea. The bathroom actually had a bath! and a powerful shower. The pool was very quiet during the day sometimes we were completely on our own which was peaceful. We ate frequently at the Plori Taverna in Tigaki which was amazing and the main reason we went back to Tigaki this year. The Hotel is about a 25 minute walk from the beach (the beach is huge sun beds are 5euro for 2) but it's all on the flat so was easy managed. Walking to the nearest Taverna in Tigaki takes about 15 minutes. Coming back in the evening a torch was essential as was insect repellent, the mosquitoes are small you can hardly see the blighters but they still bite you :-( We didn't bother with the air con as it was 10 euros a day, even though it was 100+ during the day with the rooms being so large it didn't get overly hot at night. We ate at the Hotel one night when they did a BBQ - the food is of high quality and we had no complaints. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and always on hand to serve a drink or ice cream from the bar, and did I mention the breakfast was great!!! All in all this was exactly the holiday we thought it would be and that we wanted, we were concerned about the migrant issue in Kos town and on a trip there did see a few migrants but we saw none in Tigaki.
just spent 2wks at The Golden Star apartments and what a fabulous holiday my husband and myself had. Rula her husband and daughter made everyone very welcome, also all the other staff were very friendly. The apartments are very clean and spacious, we had a lovely garden view. June 23rd was a brilliant night we had Gyros and a fantastic buffet they certainly know how to look after their guests, we were all singing and dancing everyone joined in it was a night to remember. Also fish bbq was brilliant. Only 15mins walk to beach and 5mins to Tagaki all lovely restaurants. A lovely peaceful setup. A special calespara to George on reception. Joyce & Jim. sale.
