We stayed here for the half term holidays with our daughter, never been to Kos before and we wasn’t disappointed. The island was beautiful and the hotel was only 10mins from the airport ,first impressions of the hotel very modern and clean and reception staff were very polite and helpful. Our room wasn’t ready so we went to the restaurant and had lunch,we went back to reception and the room was ready,it was about 2.30 and they sent for a buggie, the driver was very helpful and informative! The room was very clean with a safe and fridge, which had a few bottles of water, also coffee and tea and a kettle,we asked for a sea view which we got,it was a fantastic view. The maids came everyday and cleaned the room and gave fresh towels. There were 3 pools we mainly stayed at the one near the restaurant it was very peaceful with background music, the only issue was most of the clientele were German and they all smoked and sounded like they had bronchitis but we just egnored it,the pool area was very clean and had a nice bar near it. The restaurant did different theme nights every evening,we enjoyed the American one ,the food was kept hot but we thought there wasn’t much choice,no English sausages and streaky bacon,a lot of the food was catered for the Germans eg frankfurters for breakfast, they put Brussels sprouts and carrots on for breakfast one day which was strange and they did a champagne gala and there was no champagne dissapointing really!Didn’t think much of most of the entertainment, but the Greek night was brill! The hotel was on a steep hill and we were located at the top,you had to go to the bottom pool for the entertainment we tried to get buggies back to our room but they didn’t turn up,not very good if you’re not very mobile.I given this hotel a four because of the staff and cleanliness and location,we think it’s more of a 4*than a 5,Kardamaina is a lovely friendly place and I will return but maybe not this hotel:)
Zois and Vagelis are the most amazing staff you need to pay them as much as it costs to keep them!!! Never have i been to a hotel and been so amazed by how friendly the staff are. Please make sure they know how much we appreciate them!!
We’ve been home for almost a week after spending May half term at the Grand Blue Beach Hotel - none of us were ready to come home when the week came to an end! The staff here are lovely, work really hard and are always polite. We stayed in a family room which was near the activity pool - it was modern and spotlessly clean with clean towels and bedding every day (I didn’t read the card advising to place on bed if linen didn’t require changing that day until the day before we came home!) Bigger bath towels would definitely go down well! The entertainment staff - Mike, Emily & Sophie made our daughter’s holiday - there weren’t many other teenagers there but we joined in with a range of their activities - Zumba, boules, darts, step, stretching etc and she was even asked to join them on stage to dance one evening (one of the main highlights of her week). They were so friendly and always had time for a chat. Thoroughly enjoyed my welcome massage at the Spa, but wouldn’t have booked and paid for a treatment as their ‘very good discount’ (of 10%) would still have meant me paying almost double what I do at home. I was initially unimpressed by the food selection, but this seemed to improve as our week went on and we enjoyed some lovely theme nights. Pity there was no champagne for the gala night ‘champagne reception’ as they hadn’t had their delivery! We really enjoyed our meal in the A la Carte restaurant and were aware we had to pay for all drinks there, but they were definitely overpriced. We found the all inclusive drinks package very limited but didn’t feel it was worth paying the €40 per person, per day to upgrade just so we could have a cappuccino or branded drink. We have never had to pay any extra at other 5* hotels we have stayed in and think for the hotel to warrant 5* they should address these issues. We had a fabulous holiday and would definitely consider returning but overall think the hotel is more of a 4 than a 5 star hotel, for the reasons mentioned above. If you’ve booked to go to this hotel, I’m sure you’ll have a lovely, relaxing holiday.
I'll keep it short and list our main points. Pros: 1/ Only ten minutes from the airport. 2/ A friendly welcome on arrival. 3/ Friendly and helpful staff, especially Janus the cab driver and the head waiter. 4/ It was my wife's birthday and they gave flowers, bottle of sparkling wine, fruit etc. 5/ Good sized room overlooking the sea. 6/ Our room was kept meticulously clean at all times. 7/ The food at mealtimes was up to a decent standard with plenty of choice. 8/ Entertainment was good where Andy did a great job. All in all we would recommend it. Cons, Not many cons but we need to point out a few things: 1/ Not exactly fully inclusive but partially inclusive in that some drinks were chargeable even though local spirits were used. 2/ We would not recommend the alacarte restaurant which was nothing special and if you wanted wine you had to pay for it. We didn't realise until checkout that it cost 28 Euros for a bottle of cheap plonk. This is the main reason for giving 4 stars. Our thanks to all staff. Were we usually stay we are provided with bottled water in the fridge everyday. If wanted bottled water you had to pay for it. Although they state that the tap water was safe to drink we were not prepared to risk it.
We came here as a family two adults and a baby 9 months old. The negative reviews I feel are very picky but do agree that my single tiny only negative is that the food does cater for German taste, however there were many German tourists on our stay so can see why. However! Please don’t be put off as everything else made up for it. The staff here couldn’t do enough for you, we come to kos every year and tried this hotel for a change and were really not disappointed. The rooms are great, the staff I really can’t point out enough how amazing they have been, especially with our baby Theo. Not one person I have anything negative to say about they really did make our stay worth while. The restaurants are spacious and have a variety of food, only a 5/10 minute walk into the town, there are buggy’s going round the hotel all the time for the hill walk, but don’t let that put you off, it’s not that bad. We hope to visit again soon!
Lovely hotel with stunning views, however there was several problems in the dining room. Not the food which was lovely but the man who I assume was in charge of the dining facilities rudely commented that the attire I was wearing was inappropriate. I was wearing a swimsuit coverup which I understand is unacceptable in some dining areas however the manner in which he said it to me made me feel uncomfortable especially since I saw multiple women throughout the week wearing far less than I. The man hovered around the dining room watching over everyone’s shoulders and generally being intrusive. All in all he reminded me of an emperor penguin. Everyone else was very friendly and the hotel was a lovely place to visit.
We have just got from our holiday in Kos at the GBB. We have no complaints whatsoever about our holiday and there were 10 of us! We stayed all inclusive plus and for the additional money, we all found it well worth it. The rooms were spotless with them cleaned everyday with fresh towels, staff so super friendly and the food was very good and the hygiene excellent. I’ve read some food reviews and I’ve found them harsh. Yes, the hotel has a hill but for the views you get it is worth it and if you need a buggy, they are on hand. Premium drinks were nice and top notch cocktails not using cheap syrup just the answer! 3 pools as well too! Overall, wonderful!!!
Couples holiday, really enjoyed our experience here. Fast transfer only around 10 mins from Kos airport, greeted upon arrival by the receptionists who were lovely and friendly and continued to be through the duration of the holiday. The hotel and rooms were super clean and stayed this way as cleaners were consistent with high standards including fresh bedding, towels and tidying daily. However the only downside to the rooms were the beds which were two singles pushed together which is unideal for couples. Any problems with our room were reported and sorted within a few hours of calling reception. The entertainment team were also amazing Mikey, Emily and Sylvie. Shows were on every night and activities throughout the day e.g. Darts, Aqua gym and bowls. All of which were very enjoyable and social giving the opportunity to stay active on holiday and meet new people. The location of the hotel is great, absolutely stunning views and only a short walk to the town, beach and bars/restaurants. Water activities also were a short walk away. The only downside was the food for us, as a 5 star hotel we expected more. The breakfast was the best out of the 3 (breakfast, lunch, dinner) with hot and cold options. However the dinner was disappointing with limited choice and sometimes cold. Also upon arrival we were unaware that on some nights for dinner that trousers must be worn which we found surprising within a hot climate. Despite wearing smart attire, we were frowned upon by a female manager when entering the restaurant and felt spoken down to when told we could only eat downstairs and would have to go back and change ( walking back down and up the steep hill) in order to eat anywhere else. Despite this the snack bar at the bottom pool (where entertainment is held) was good. The alcohol was all unbranded and to get basic branded alcohol this was an extra charge. The resort was hilly but a simple call to reception meant a buggy was with you within the next 10 minutes depending on demand taking you around the resort to desired location. However this was not much of a problem for us as we were pretty much in the middle. Buggy drivers were also really friendly and helpful being delightful members of staff. Overal, really nice experience and would definitely return and recommended to others! Thank you :)
This was a last minute decision booked a week before travel with Jet2 out of Leeds Bradford. All aspects of the Jet2 service were fantastic with no complaints. Arrival into Kos was good although the customs experience was a surprise but okay, Jet2 staff met us & had us onto transfers in no time, the bus took about 15 minutes to get us to the hotel where we were quickly processed & booked in. It was a surprise to be given a packed lunch at reception as the restaurants were closed but the sandwich was welcome. We had asked for a sea view and our room, number 68 certainly had it. The block with our room sat about halfway down the hill the resort sits on. Our room was very big, meant for three with a double & a single bed & a big bathroom. Everything was very clean & well maintained, the room was serviced to a very high standard every day. There are tea & coffee facilities in the room, the cups are very small & we took our own coffee with us, milk can be bought in the shop in the reception area. There are three pool areas, the main or top pool sits with the restaurants and main bar area, non of the pools are particularly deep & diving is not an option. This main pool has a much shallower kiddie’s paddling pool. The middle pool is similar in size & has it’s own bar area & a kid’s playground area. This is also where the night time entertainment took place. The bottom pool is smaller with a small bar area, all very clean & well presented. This bottom pool is also near the gate for the road to walk into Kardamaina & restaurants & bars etc. We were on the basic all inclusive package this included local beer & wines, soft drinks & non branded spirits, this was all good. Then came the first stumbling block, the food. During our stay, the third week of May, the hotel’s main guest base was German & looking around the hotel this is obviously a huge hotel with the German market & the food reflects this. A little Greek food, a lot of German food & the odd British dish that wasn’t quite what it said it was. Don’t misunderstand me, at no time did we go hungry or struggle to find something to eat but it was disappointing. It also led us to stroll into town three nights for dinner. By far the best meal in the hotel was breakfast, hot & cold options & obviously as much as you could eat. The main stumbling block which shocked us & took the edge off our stay was smoking. German guests with hacking tuberculosis type coughs thought nothing of lighting up during meals in the restaurants or in the bar areas or in fact anywhere at all. Greece obviously doesn’t have any smoking laws. That aside, the hotel is excellent, it is built into a hillside, but as an averagely fit 50 year old I managed it. There are several golf buggies that fly about & can be waved down or ordered on the phone from reception. All the hotel staff we met were excellent & we have no complaints there. Worth a look, the guest base might become more British as our school holidays start & the menu may reflect this.
would 100% go back to this hotel. cleaners come round everyday meet loads of fantastic people. the entertainment team made my holiday for me by all the activies they do and the amount they made me laugh would come back just because of them. i am already looking to go back this year just by myself. we meet loads of people that went by themselves ans they also say thay they would go back. only a 5 minute walk away from the strip where they have bars at night and a little shopping villiage during the day.
