This was our fourth trip with our kids to Maui, but our first time at this resort. We rented a three bedroom ocean deluxe villa, and I was skeptical about the property because it looked so far from the ocean. When we walked in, the room was beautiful. The view from the balcony was stunning because the villa was situated on the top row. You could even see the ocean from the downstairs patio. Even though we could not hear the ocean when we sat outside, it was just silent and peaceful with birds chirping now and then. We would have breakfast and dinner (most nights) on the balcony. The kitchen was fantastic. It was organized and had every single thing you could ever need or want. The elevator was convenient to have especially when carrying groceries. The bedrooms were so comfortable and the carpet was super soft. The bathrooms were well appointed. There were days where the kids were content relaxing in the villa. The pool at the Ho'Olei complex was nice, quiet and not crowded. We did have access to the Grand Wailea. The shuttle was super quick to pick us up and take us there. If my kids weren't so young and in love with the Grand Wailea pools, we probably would have just been content to use the pool at Ho 'Olei and just go to the beach. The Grand Wailea pools were just too busy.
If you read my post from last October, you know we love the Waldorf Astoria Grand Wailea. Ho’olei luxury villas takes it up another 1000 notches. Located across the street from the Grand Wailea, Ho’olei is out of this universe. Celebrating our 35th anniversary we wanted to go to a place we never imagined we would be able to stay at a resort like Ho’olei. Our villa was at the top of the beautifully manicured grounds with a expansive views of Molokini and the Ocean. At over 3800 sq. feet the villa has everything you could desire. Huge lanai, beautifully decorated, it is a dream come true. The pool is smaller than across the street but is plenty large with a kids/family section, jacuzzi’s, and a waterfall. Tranquil is how we would describe it. There is also a nice size fitness room. We cannot say enough great things about the staff. They are there for anything you need. Hilda, Logan, Melissa, Karen, Samantha, and the rest of the team are like Ohana now. I apologize for not remembering all of the guys names that drove us around Wailea. They had a lot of awesome recommendations on where to eat and all the local spots. Ho’olei is our forever resort now and we will come back as often as we can, it’s that incredible. Mahalo nui loa Ho’olei for treating us like Ohana.
I have stayed in many Hilton properties over the past 20+ years, and decided to go to Maui for my birthday (a really BIG birthday!). I realized upfront that I was not staying in the Waldorf in NYC, nor the Rome Cavaleri, but at a beach resort. I am saying this because I just looked at other reviews and saw this property referred to as an amusement park. The Grand Wailea did not disappoint in any manner. The service was friendly and professional, and the operation of the property was organized and efficient. I am close to being lifetime Diamond with Hilton, and was given an upgrade to a lovely pool/ocean view room, even with cookies delivered as a birthday gift! The breakfast buffet was a beautiful way to start each day; the open air dining area overlooked the Pacific. At the risk of sounding pretentious, I want to add that I have stayed at many, many Hampton Inns in very small towns over the years in order to achieve and maintain Hilton HHonors Diamond status. I used points for my stay, and this property did not disappoint. Maholo.
Came here for a week with a party of 5 (husband, myself, our 1 year old, our 3 year old and our nanny) in their 3 bedroom oceanview villa. The house was very clean and the kitchen was satisfactory. Kitchen has real knives, lots of glasses, toaster, blender, coffee maker, coffee grinder, some baking utensils, fruit/veggie peelers and decent pots/pans. It’s definitely one of the better kitchens in rentals homes we’ve come across. Only warning is there is no cooking oil or spices. You have what you need to cook but you’ll have to buy all your oils and spices. We went to Whole Foods on the way out to the hotel but didn’t realize that so we had to make a second trip. They provide salt and pepper in tabletop shakers. Baby friendly. They have baby gates and a full size crib upon request. If you are using their crib maybe bring a padded crib sheet? Their crib mattress is a bit thin and plasticy feeling. For baby monitors, sound machines, toys, etc I used babyquip.
We had a phenomenal experience at The Grand Wailea Ho’olei Villas. We had an ocean view 3 bedroom villa with a full kitchen, laundry room, outdoor lanai with a bbq, and literally all the comforts of home. We were in 52-2, which is all top of the line. We used all the facilities at the Grand Wailea with our 2 daughters 10 and 11. The pool and fitness center at the Villas is very nice and typically quiet. The pool and fitness center across the street at the main hotel were much grander, but much more crowded. I would highly recommend staying at the villas for 2 main reasons, the ability to do laundry and the ability to cook at home for a few meals during your trip.
We stayed during leg two of our Maui adventure, not quite the same as previous experiences. The units are nice but nowhere close to the luxury level we had imagined. Roomy but basic in most ways with little in the way special touches. You do get access the Grand Wailea and if you’re seeking an amusement park, it’s a winner. If you’re expecting pampering, civility, and quality service, you will be disappointed. Crazy lines for everything, and no personal attention. Restaurant in Wailea are very good, Ko and Ka’Anapali Kitxhen were our favorites. Check out Monkeypod too. Beaches are beautiful, but crowded compared to Kapalua and Kaanapali where we went earlier.
We traveled with 7 people in total including 3 adults, and 8 year old, two 6 year olds and and infant who is 6 months. Our trip was incredible! We were located about 30 minutes from the airport. We stayed in villa 12-5. It was perfect for our family. It was close to the villa pool and reception area. It was also within close proximity to the south entrance of the Grand Wailea where we enjoyed cocktails and pool time. The beach is beautiful! They provided a shuttle to take us anywhere in Wailea although we did rent a car and travel to Lahaina for whale watching and to the crater to watch the sunrise. The shops of Wailea and many other things are within close walking distance. They restocked the fridge daily and provided daily cleaning. The villa was equipped with everything we needed and more. I cannot day enough about this wonderful location. The only downside is the cabanas were expensive so we didn’t utilize them. We used our travel agent to book our trip and couldn’t be happier!
Villa was beautifully finished: high end appliances, quality furniture and linen, etc. Shuttle service to and from hotel was prompt. We stayed in a 3 BR ocean view. I would not recommend the deluxe ocean view as you are higher up on the hill and therefore farther from the hotel, beach and pool. Travelers should note that the villas are across the street from the hotel and from the beach. If you’re looking for beachfront accommodations, this isn’t it. Space was more important for our family though and the location was as I expected. As other travelers have commented, trying to get chairs by the pool is difficult. Expect to come down around 730am (and stay) to snag chairs or be prepared to pay for cabana and/ or covered chairs. You also can’t just throw your stuff on the chairs to save them and come back hours later. The pool staff monitors the chairs and if no one has used them in 1 hour, your things are removed and the chairs made available to others. That being said, we were here during spring break which is probably a very busy time. My kids are 9, 12 and 14. They were really too old for most of the pool features (20 ft tube slide, Tarzan swing, etc) but those are cool amenities, nonetheless. Hotel and villa property were exceptionally clean and staff was very attentive and friendly. Overall, an awesome trip.
We enjoyed a week-long stay in mid-March in Villa 15-3 at Ho'olei. We were so pleased with our stay. The sprawling condo with three bedrooms was perfect for my parents, my family and my sister's family. I liked everything about the condo, but particularly loved the huge sliding doors that when opened made it seamless to go between the kitchen/living room area to the beautiful lanai. It was also so convenient to park the two rental vans we had right by the condo. One in the garage and the other in a carport just feet away. We received excellent service by the Ho'olei staff all week. The daily housekeeping was so nice. Daily they would restock beverages (water, coconut water and juice), refresh our towels, make our beds, fill or empty the dishwasher, vacuum the floors and in general give everything a touch up. I also appreciated the option to text with the staff and make requests that way - its my preferred method of communication. We had access to the Grand Wailea resort and beach. It was a short walk across the street to the Grand Wailea, but a bit of a journey to get to the actual pools/beach. We would stop at the Ho'olei office to get our pool bands before going to the Grand Wailea. This was more time efficient than doing so at the Grand Wailea. What surprised us all was how much we loved the Ho'olei pool! It was really beautiful there and accommodated our group which included children aged infant to 16. It was easy for us to be together and have an eye on the kids. I can't recommend the pool enough. It's quiet, there are plenty of seats and umbrellas, easy access to towels, excellent restrooms, tables for eating and two refrigerators where you could store your own items. We would carry out lunch there (Manoli's Pizza and Cheeseburger Grill & Tap worked great) and it was just easy as can be. There is a 3 foot end of the pool that makes it easy for younger kids to play, a covered cave area, a little kids beach water area that flows into the bigger pool, two chaise lounges that sit in about 6" of water (my favorite spot ever) and two hot tubs. There is also a massage cabana which is less expensive than the Spa Grande (obviously a little different experience though). For groceries we made a Whole Foods stop by the airport upon arrival and journeyed about 10 minutes north to the Safeway several times during our stay. We also stopped at the Target by the airport upon arrival for pool noodles and a few other items. We cooked two full dinners in the Villa which was easy with the full kitchen and grill. We had breakfast in the Villa daily. Will look back and smile at our wonderful time at Ho'olei!
We spent T-giving at Ho’olei. The customer service team from the concierge to the staff to the drivers was incredible. So kind, so helpful, so welcoming. The villa itself was gorgeous and spacious. Incredibly comfortable beds, lovely bathrooms, nice kitchen with open living area and lanai. On our first night, the people in the villa next door were unfortunately really loud and cursing outside on their lanai, clearly drinking a lot, (not great for us w/ kids and grandparents). We rang up the front desk at Ho’olei and they were so kind and discrete in how they handled it, asking the folks if they could either go indoors or keep a quieter level outside, which they did. The little pool there is very pleasant, although quite small indeed and can feel crowded quickly. Would be lovely if there was a little food & drink service at their pool, but there is not (although you are welcome to bring your own). Only reason to give it 4 stars vs. 5 is due to the Grand Wailea itself, which has the big pools and beach access. The pools were fun, but felt slightly mismatched compared to the pitch on the website re: all the amazing water slides. We actually kept seeking out more slides at first, thinking we must be looking in the wrong spot, b/c the ones we found were ~10-15 ft long. But the pool is good size between all the different sections. The beach is lovely, but because we didn't get out there at 6am every morning to reserve chairs/space (how are so many other people getting up that early to reserve spots when they're on vacation???), we were never able to get chairs on the beach. For the cost of this holiday, while the villa and Ho'olei property itself were incredible, I feel like perhaps the pools and beach access would be a little different. That said, I feel guilty even saying these things, given we were in Hawaii and it was a lovely holiday.
