You must understand the Florida keys to appreciate what Bakers Cay has to offer. The Keys are not a "Beach resort area". Although Bakers cay has two very nice beach areas. The hotel is very well done and rooms are very nice, clean and have minimal furnishing. The remodel is nicely done with high end vinyl flooring to handle the sand and wet clothes. Beds are very comfortable. Pool area is very good. Restaurants are good although servers are not trained very well. Getting good help these days is very difficult but with a little training and accountability it could be easily fixed. We have mosquitoes and bugs in Florida. Just the way it is. This resort is very dog friendly. Dogs are not my thing. During my three night stay the dogs were not a problem at all. I do not understand why they have to be in the eating area but again they did not disrupt me or my family. Overall a great experience. Nice job Bakers Cay!
My husband, two children, and I stayed for two nights at the end of June 2019. Pluses: 1. Nice lobby entrance with ball room used for kids activities, staff interacting with children, popcorn, music and a pool table 2. Fun foam party on Saturday's on the grass area by the swimming pools 3. Dry rocks restaurant served good drinks, great atmosphere, not your typical old keys decor 4. Large beach with free water sports activities 5. Comfortable beds, we all slept well Minuses 1) Horrible swimming pool location: right next to overseas highway so you can hear the cars, trucks, honking, etc. The pool music and waterfall do not muffle the sound. The pools are far from the beach. However, I liked that there was a family pool and an adult pool. 2) Room was not cleaned, cigarettes on the beach and path to the beach, pool table area was dirty with glasses and food left over from the night before 3) Slow service at the beach bar and pool bar, not enough bar tenders for the number of people 4) No live music, even though the hotel advertises it 5) No information about kids activities, you have to ask the front desk what is going on each day and hope they know Next time we will check out a different resort.
This place was amazing the service from the housekeepers was so fantastic. I did have one bad experience where I overheard a manager yelling and being nasty with a housekeeper. I asked the young lady was she ok and she explained to me that rudeness and hostile happens often in the work place . I asked her if she wanted me to go speak to somebody about the way the manger had spoken to the young lady she said no so I asked her the woman’s name she told me the woman’s name was Ms.matthews and she was her manager. This lady was very nasty with the girl I almost felt completely bad. I gave the young lady a tip to make her day better. I hope you guys start showing each other more respect because guest see and hear everything that’s going on outside of our doors especially in the hallways . Other than that great trip ! Food could have been better
Why don’t wonderful time I had with my family staying at this resort overlooking the Bayside. From morning till evening it was always something planned. Kayaks and paddle boards were always accessible even if a five minute wait was needed. We enjoyed our Fourth of July 2019. Looking forward to next years trip here!
The Hotel is dated except for the Lobby and Rooms everywhere else is old poor condition typical Keys Hotel Go to Playa Largo. The restaurant had horrible service and terrible food and choices. Air conditioning is an old system barely keeping room cool. Tons of Mosquito's bring insect repellent. Breakfast Buffet is better at a Marriott Courtyard
The staff seemed put out to be working there. Ex. Stayed 4 nights and not one drink offered on the beach, even with the flag raised. The property is nice though and the area has a lot of activities to offer.
After a quick assessment that our VRBO was no where near what we expected, we lucked out as Bakers Cay had one room available. Helpful courteous staff. Rooms are nicely appointed. The adult & family area pool areas, although small, are separated by a large carved stone (limestone?) which is a good touch. There are two beach areas, one shady one sunny. Long L shaped dock perfect for fishing. Water very calm and clear. Two restaurants on site, one seafood one Mexican. Variety of water activities available for rent, kayaks, jet skis, etc... but pricey. Although our stay was short we would consider returning.
Very nice stay for a few days in the Keys. Nice beach, free activities and great food. Only drawback was getting a room on the second floor facing the water and having ZERO view of the ocean due to the trees blocking the first three floors of the Hammock wing. If you book a room in the Hammock wing book the 4th floor. Also beware if you have pet allergies as many rooms have had pets as this is a pet friendly hotel.
You can not sit outside at beach or outdoor restaurant/bar without getting eaten up with mosquitos. The entire family has over 30 bites each. I had to take one of the kids to an urgent care to be put on steroids! There are no tiki torches, citronella candela, insect repellent, environmental control what so ever. The location, beaches, amenities and bar were Amazing!! The lack of bug control ruins it all!!!!!!
We spent a few days at this beautiful resort and loved every minute of it. The hotel was nicely furnished and offered activities for all ages. There is a beach that is secluded and tranquil, another beach that has activities (kayak, paddle boards, etc), tiki bar, food, and pool. The staff was terrific- friendly and helpful. The only complaint is that rooms are cleaned up until 5 pm. So if you want a nap or shower and they clean your room later in the afternoon you might need to plan accordingly. I can’t wait to go back to this resor. It was fantastic!
