Azul del Mar

We have stayed at Azul several times previously, but our last visit as a couple was in 2009 (30th Wedding Anniversary). One of us was fortunate enough to return in 2017 for a couple of days while on business in the US and this focused our minds on making sure we also celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary at Azul. Very little has changed over the years. There is a little less greenery (down to hurricanes and iguanas we believe) but Azul remains a beautiful oasis of calm in a busy world. We would stay at Azul more regularly (ideally two or three times a year) if finances permitted and there wasn't an eight-hour flight involved! It is difficult to describe a place that has become so dear to us. Our latest visit was probably our most memorable - eleven nights in Royale. So many swims in the sea that we went home fitter than when we arrived (not bad for a couple in their early 60s!). The variety of sunsets, the peace and tranquility, the conversations with Dominic and the trip out on his boat. All good. Why else would we travel so far and spend so much time at Azul just chilling as the pace of life becomes what it should be rather than what it has become. So once again we post our thanks to Dominic and his team. Hopefully we will return. Soon.

Originally booked here for one night towards the end of our road trip I'm Florida. Decided to book another night due to how peaceful and quite this place was. We pretty much had the place to ourselves and the room looked out towards the sea. Dominic was very welcoming and advised the best restaurants and bar to visit. Ended eating in hobos where we had lovely seafood and went to the carribean bar, both well recommended. If we were in the area ever again would definitely stay here again.

From our first welcome from our host Dominic we enjoyed our relaxing short stay at Azul del Mar. The accommodation is just off main highway but what lies beyond is access to a small private beach, jetty and the ocean. Having completed a two week drive down the keys and stay in Miami we were ready for a couple of days of rest and relaxation and this was the most perfect place. There were a couple of good restaurants close by so we didn’t have to use the car for couple of days which was great! We wished we could have taken advantage of the sunset boat trip which looked a good way to see part of the Everglades so if you do this trip check out the tours before planning your itinerary. There were kayaks and paddle boards to hire so you really did not have to leave the accommodation.A few minutes drive away there is a big supermarket, shops and more restaurants so you can easily self cater.... there is bbq provided too. The sunset is beautiful from the dock ... enjoy we certainly did!

We stayed in "Celeste" which was a lovely comfortable suite with a great view. These were the last 2 nights of our Miami/Florida Keys holiday and wanted to chill out and Azul del Mar was perfect for this so we were very happy with our booking. The room was very well prepared and clean, the bed was as comfortable as promised and the aircon was efficient and quiet. Dominic and his wife were great hosts and made us feel at home - lots of local information was made available too. The garden and deck areas were great - plenty of space from which to admire the stunning sunsets. Happy to recommend Azul del Mar.

We stayed here for our honeymoon, it was very clean with a beautiful view. Such a calming atmosphere. I am writing this review 7 months later and the beauty of the place is vivid in my mind. It is one of my favorite memories. Dominic is excellent, very knowledgeable and kind.

In love with this place from the first step out of the car. Tucked away, small, quaint, personable, gorgeous. Rooms are nicely appointed with nice romantic touches and nicely equipped with amenities. The outdoor area is private, romantic, gorgeous westerly views, hammocks, relaxing swimming. I’m a big fan and will be a repeat visitor!

My wife and I stayed here 2 nights - could not have been better. Our suite had both a sleeping area, small kitchen and a outer seating area. We faced the water and had breakfast both morning just outisde our door on the deck area. The water was 75 feet away and the sundet viewing form the dock was wonderful. Plan ahead and make reservations.

This was truly a find. Our room on the lower floor was extremely comfortable. The location is perfect. It's a quiet gem with lovely grounds, plus a beach and pier. There are only 6 rooms - so reservations are a plus to insure you get a room. This is within walking distance of the Caribbean Club, where part of the African Queen were filmed. Neat old pub. The owner of the Azul del Mar, Dominique was wonderful. He's a very personable Brit and makes one feel right at home. We are planning on going back because of the relaxing atmosphere. A wonderful place to stay in the Keys.

Arrived late but the keys were left to our apartment and the property was well lit. Very comfortable and inviting. In the morning we were able to see the location better which showed it was right next to the sea. Lovely amenities and friendly staff

We visited Azul del Mar, which is a small boutique hotel, as a base to visit the Keys. We stayed in the ground floor suite facing the sea. The property was a good size with a fridge, microwave and coffee pot. The room was a little damp hence we had a de humidifier which removed a lot of water from the air. I had to empty it daily. The suite itself, was spotlessly clean, and was serviced daily. The owner/manager, Dominic, was very helpful, giving a lot of advice on places to visit, eat and drink, etc. It had it’s own private beach complete with a small jetty and tiki huts for shade as needed. The beach being meticulously maintained daily. There were plenty of seats for guest use. And a gas bbq for general use. From the beach you had plenty of sun and a good view of the sunset. For eating out there are a couple of places in a five minute walk with more a short car ride. I would definitely recommend Azul del Mar as a place to stay and relax. My wife and I would stay again.
