We travel to Nepal extensively and have stayed at a wide range of hotels. Baber Mahal impressed us quite a bit. The beauty and quality of rooms rivals Dwarika's Kathmandu. The Rana style is a nice change from the busy streets of the city. The shopping and dining within Baber Mahal is wonderful. You can spend your days out in the city and enjoy quiet, restful evenings strolling the property and dine in a different area each night all week. The breakfast included with our room was good and offered continental options as well as a few traditional choices. One note: my husband always orders an omelet and he could not say enough wonderful things. It made his top list of favorite omelets! There is a lovely open air pub off of the lobby that makes a nice stop for a cocktail or coffee before heading out or back to your room after a long day. We had the Singha Suite. Plenty of room to spread out, get work done, sip tea on the balcony overlooking the main courtyard, get a good night's sleep on a nice firm mattress, and tip toe out to the pool next to our room for sunrise. The bathrooms are particularly large and clean. Only lacked a hairdryer and I suspect I would have requested one. Overall, the staff went above and beyond to see that we were comfortable and well cared for. I will be back!
Very nicely built hotel with history and culture reflecting. Wonderful hospitality from staff and big thanks to Prabin. Food from French restaurant was yummy as well. Highly recommend to all. We just enjoyed our stay and looking forward to come back again. Love from Australia and Nepal
I loved this boutique because it was beautiful, quiet, comfortable and nice room. The staff was very helpful and professional. There are many nice places to stay in KTM but this is special because it’s also historic! The history makes it an extra cozy and interesting.
We needed to go to Kathmandu for a wedding. Not having any idea of where to stay we had to use the ratings and location near the centre. Baber Mahal Vilas was our choice. Never having been to Nepal before we didn’t know what to expect. The place is wonderfully chaotic, the people are friendly and welcoming. The city is overload. The Vilas provide a peaceful refuge from the chaos. The staff are attentive, nothing is too much trouble. We can not recommend the Vilas highly enough! If you can get a room stay there!
Beautiful histotical property refurbished with great taste. Excellent service and attentive staff. Rooms and suites with all kind of amenities and a great shopping arcade. Excellent restaurants and refined ambiance. Quiet location in Kathmandu.
We stayed 4 nights. We picked BM vilas given the raving reviews on TA and other travel sites. We were on a long trek in nepal and stayed at the new Marriott just before moving to BM. BM is a very small intimate hotel, rich heritage and takes pride in their history. Grounds are well maintained. Hotel is beautiful and considered luxurious by local standards. Staff are extremely courteous, especially the young chaps at the restaurant and bar. Chef Ramesh often drops by to greet us. It is a very quiet, calm hotel, indeed once stepping outside to the road the blast of traffic and noise is rather rudely shocking. And that was why we came for (or so we thought) a good quiet serene luxurious quality place to rest from our trek while we continued long day hikes. We slept very poorly in fact. Frangipani is the worst room in even worst location. The hotel is very small and compact. The room is adjacent to the main hotel entrance on one side and the gift shop/ yard on the bedside. Anyone who enters/ exit the hotel has to pass by our room. Practically there is no view despite having long large windows we had always to keep curtains closed or we’d be looking at the guards or anyone who walks by. Entrance to the room is 1m from the gift shop so the corridor clearance is in too close proximity. What kind of rest the hotel expects the guests to procure, I really don’t know. Bathroom window is adjacent to the parking lot outside next to the gate. At anytime in the bathroom we can hear the conversations of guards or drivers. We are up early for hikes so sleep about 9.30pm daily, but the location is disturbed by people who pass the corridor because it is the only walkway to the rest of the hotel. We are not the complaining sort so we put up with it considering everyone has been so friendly and it’s a beautiful hotel. On 3rd night at 4am we are woken by the incessant chatter of the staff on his mobile phone for no less 30mins outside our window. Had to finally knock on the window to get his attention to shut up. At 5am staff arrives to work, some people starts singing. I’m frustrated enough to get out from bed and walk to the hotel gate and just ask whomever to shut up. The room is simply too near the hotel gate, guards chatter very early and even in their soft tones the chatter can be heard when we are trying to sleep. As reiterated we came here for an oasis of rest and frankly it’s the worst sleep nights of our two week trip. There’s only 3 hotels more luxurious and pricey than BM vilas - Hyatt regency , Dwarika and Marriott. But the quality of experience in total is really poor, unfortunately to say. Food is good, staff is very accommodating but nothing solves for a bad room in a bad location which I believe the hotel should be aware of before. It’s simply insensitive to put guests there. Pool looked muddy and not maintained so we didn’t use it. Gym is very small and has no air conditioning (bad miss, especially on hot days) and not well equipped. Other minor issues included a mail from hotel saying they will avail me a SIM card upon check in , this was not given. Check in was also a little uncoordinated as the reception staff wasn’t there. The other minor issue is emailing the hotel to ask for sightseeing recommendations (we are already staying there) and not getting a reply. We went with another agency instead. Overall, not what we expected and not how we intended to write such a poor review but these are facts the hotel should strive to improve while claiming to be 5-star. Sorry it is not.
I stayed a total of 5 nights during my travel to Nepal in two different suite rooms with a balcony each. I instantly loved the intimacy, love for details and individuality of the hotel. During my last three nights, some construction work was ongoing but should be finished very soon, otherwise the compound is very quiet. The suites are spacious and very well equipped with all you require. Food was also very good. Only the breakfast selection was a little bit poor as I enjoy local breakfast and the hotel offers Western breakfast only. If I come to Kathmandu again, I most probably would opt for this place again. Thanks to the staff!
An excellent small hotel with a very nice and polite personnel. Good breakfasts and dinners. A good site, close to Thamel and Durbar Square. We had a nice and clean room with very good service. Nice Himalaya view from the hotel rooftop. I recommend asking hotel manager about assistance in organization of your tours. He was very helpful to us and the price we got was competitive. Picking up and dropping off the taxi in front of the hotel. Good price and very kind service. I would recommend this hotel to everybody.
Just perfect! This traditional place will welcome you with so much serenity and warm smiles. Staff are very attentive and True to the definition of customer service. Rooms are clean, adequate water supply at shower and admirable toiletries. The Private pool at roof top is great for selifes! 🤩 Food and beverages served are as well palatable. Nepali set was superb! Kudos to Mr. Prabin and team. May you all continue to exceed expectations through esteemed quality service. Till our next visit! ✈️ From Philippines and Egypt with lotsa love! ❤️
As a constant traveler, I can say the service in this hotel was by far the best I have ever experienced. To say that the staff was warm and welcoming would be an understatement. They went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. They treat you as if you are the only person in the hotel despite being fully booked. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful with comfortable beds. I would recommend it to anyone staying in Kathmandu, whether for one day or a month!
