Monsane River Kwai Resort3.0 out of 5.0

The hotel location is very great although their room arrangement does not take advantage of this blessing. The room is clean but quite small. The food is OK. The entrance is a little bit rugged but not far from the main road.
It's nice to be there, me and my husband so satisfied on that date. We are thinking if we have a chance to travel to Kanchanaburi we will stay at Monsane again. It's silent and very nice to stay in a clam and cool place.
We are staying here for one day and leave tomorrow to find another hotel. The sign along the road is so hard to see. We got lost and have to take many turns. It's far away from the town(kinda boring), very dark room,(It's HORRIBLE!) and smelly..good thing about this hotel is that the staffs are kind and very close to the River Kwai Bridge but I will never come back here again.
The approach from the main road is through what appears to be a cement quarry. Not a good start. But the establishment is nice enough. We booked online. The website is misleading. Our room overlooked the rusty roof of a neighbours house. The bedsheets were stained and nasty. Despite a cursory apology and apparent indifference of the staff to the dirty sheets, we decided to upgrade to one of the suites facing the river. Much nicer but quite expensive at around THB3,900. The suites are accessed by a flight of very steep metal stairs so don't go for the suite if you have heavy luggage. (No offers of help from the staff). The website showed images of people paddling kayaks on the river. When we enquired, the concessionaire was nowhere to be found and a solitary, disused kayak was left abandoned on the weed-lined shore (see picture). We passed on that idea. Included breakfast was ordinary. Cheap and nasty. Such a shame. Someone has put a lot of money into this establishment but seems to have let it fall into disrepair. More importantly, they have forgotten that the essential element of hospitality is the training of staff. First time and last time here.
As a regular user of TA. I am still trying to work out how I ended up in such a poor hotel, miles from town, up the end of a dirt road. So let's be positive, if it was upgraded and there were shuttles into town, also they found someone to do a breakfast. Then it may upgrade to average. If you are unfortunate enough to end up here, make sure you keep a relationship with th etaxi that brings you here, otherwise it is a long walk. Can someone tell me if they have cleaned up the cat cr4p from around the pool yet ?
Hotel was down a dirt track next to a cement works, almost turned around thinking we were in the wrong place, thank god we had a 4x4..!! Booked this hotel for Wifi access ( needed for business), pool and room view over river. Hotel staff were very welcoming and showed us to our pre booked river view 32sqm room. Shocked to find only 16sqm with partial river view, nothing like what we had booked. Had to pay double to get the room we wanted. Tried to log on to Wifi and quickly realised it was not connected to the server in any of the three locations available. Guess the had been disconnected for not paying the bill..!! Swimming pool was unavailable and under renovation. Although the views were spectacular day and night from the bar terrace the hotel looked very tired and run down most definitely in urgent need of a facelift. Buffet breakfast served on the bar terrace was of poor quality with little visibility of staff. Flies all over the uncovered fresh fruit. The shower plug hole was blocked and water flowed all over the bathroom. We did however have a very peaceful nights sleep!
Don't be seduced by the photos. The hotel is surrounded by a sort of quarry (river sand dredging ..... dust), the swimming pool is cloudy and greenish, the shower broke at the first touch. If you don't pull your curtain anyone can look into your room - and probably does. I very much the square metrage of the room (at best it includes the shower room). Balcony too small to sit on. I also remember the receptionists looking on as we struggled with our bags on arrival........ Shame. Christopher, Jouy-en-Josas, France
We drove up the highway and turned at a 90 degree angle up a dirt path of a quarry to stop at what looked like a run down motel. This hotel's website has very clever photography, and the only thing that is true, is that it is on the Rive Kwai. But it not 2KM from the bridge as the website claims, its 11km but only 7km from the war graves both of these sites can be done easily in half a day. First of all there was a knack to opening the door, which seemed to take about 10 minutes at any go, with the staff offering to open it for us whenever we wanted to come and go - not ideal, particularly as we were the only guests at the hotel, so another room wouldn't have been a problem. Our room was run down, in need of a coat of paint, replacement furniture because the wardrobe had a big hole in it and I don't think that the bathroom mirror had ever been cleaned, with all it's toothpaste and watermarks from earlier guests and the shower was held up by cardboard (I kid you not). There are scrawny flea ridden cats and dogs everywhere, that jump onto the chairs without any encouragement, again, not ideal when you're trying to eat. There are no other restaurants around for miles, so you have no choice but to eat at the hotel. The food was ok, and being the only guests staying at the hotel, we were serenaded by a chap doing karaoke. Other reviews have warned about the breakfast, but ours was well presented and tasted ok. (It was ham and eggs, with toast, butter and jam that passed as strawberry) The beds were so hard, that we actually couldn't sleep and together with the fact that it wasn't clean and there was nothing to do at all, we decided to leave after 1 night having been booked in for 3. Checking out didn't seem a surprise to the staff. I do not recommend this hotel and very definitely would not stay again!
We live in Bangkok and travel most weekends and always stay in small boutique hotels. This has been the worst experience ever, first time we have left early and gone home half way through the holidays. Room was smelly, full of mozzies and when we asked for extra pillows when we were told we couldnt move rooms, we were told we were not allowed extra pillows. The hotel b'fast consisted of been handed a plate with two congealed eggs and a hot dog sausage on it cold! We got up and drove to McDonald's and ate b'fast there. An auwful place!
Me and my family was living at this hotel in December. That will be the last time in my life for visit that hotel. Location of the hotel is very bad, bad service, staff not friendly, Breakfast's choice was poor .
