The pictures did not do justice to rooms. No air conditioning, oven not working dirty enviornment only poor excuses. Close to parts of downtown. Owner helpful getting me from airport, then not around to answer any questions.
our stay at johns was great! He was super helpful ensuring we had everything we needed to have a comfortable and great stay, he was also very knowledgeable suggesting awesome things to check out around the island. The room was perfect, it contained all the amenities we needed, the deck/patio area was so cozy, we ate all our meals out there with a beautiful view of the sunset in the evenings. Overall the place had a wonderful cabin-esk feel to it. Different from what you find in a more commercial hotel vibe, more homey feeling. It was a great way to really experience and feel welcome Into the aloha experience!
John was a tour guide, owner and provided me with tips of the best trips to take. Fresh Fruit on site. Go and pick it yourself. The owner knows all about Hawaii. I came here to experience Hawaii. Hawaii now goes home with me. Thank you John.
The location is more of a house compartmentalized like an apartment with 6 units rather than a hotel or motel. The ambience was friendly and clean. John, the property supervisor, was very kind and accommodating to us. The property itself is older and can use a bit of improvement but the service was excellent and very personalized. We accidentally planned a tour on the last day and needed to check out a couple of hours late but they let us stay without any issue.
Only stayed one night. It was very dirty, with clothes and junk laying all over the outside of the home. My credit card was overcharged as well and we had to dispute that. Pool not useable because it was so dirty. Not as described.
the photo on Tripadvisor was listed under "Lsurfer" and had a room with a kitchen sink and microwave inside. this room I got was not this one and was under a different name, "Kona Guest House" .the place is run down, the emergency exit is the bathroom window with the louvers removed, so you push out the screen for a quick exit, but window cannot be closed and thus was cold in the mornings. and easy for anyone to get in that way. the lock was a padlock on the sliding glass door. the "gas stove" was a propane camp stove that I was afraid to operate, microwave and toaster oven dirty, so I was not able to cook to save money, 1 reason I booked a place with "cooking facilities". breakfast provided was fruit on the property trees, the one good thing. says there are 6 parking spaces but only 2 are level, the rest on a steep slant, with 2 cars behind the first 2. very awkward for getting luggage in and out. television is only Netflix, no local channels. it was a quiet neighborhood, except for the turkeys goggling at dawn.
My boyfriend and I had a fantastic romantic getaway at Big Island. Stay at John's kona guest house was great! We felt like home. It always felt safe and relaxing after our long and adventurous day. Room was clean, cozy and private. John is a great host! He gave us some advices, we had nice conversation and he was also very responsive if we needed anything. He has nice little hot pool, where you can relax and look at the stars. After we left, I realized I left my very important document and my house keys at the room! I was extremely overwhelmed and emotional! I called John right away explained him my situation and he sent me my things the very next morning!!!! I was happy!!!! Awesome experience! I love every second of our little getaway!!!! I strongly recommend the stay at John's Kona Guesthouse!!!!!!!
Place was quiet, the view was awesome and the experience overall was relaxing. Close to downtown and beaches I liked the spaciousness of the rooms and the rooms provided all the amenities needed Thank you
Please do not stay here!!! This place is dirty, filled with moldy old food, garbage, and the room we were given looked like it hasn't been cleaned in weeks. The outdoor space to prepare your own breakfast had a layer of grease over everything. I am not one to review things online, but I know if I can persuade one person from getting robbed by the proprietor of this slum, I am doing something good for all humankind. He charged an extra $104 on our card, which we have to take time out of our lives to dispute with the bank (I swear they make this harder than it should be so you'll give up). I wish I could attach the video and photos I took of this place. Next step is finding whatever regulatory organization that allows such nightmares to exist in such a beautiful community and file a complaint. For your safety people, please do not stay here!
Before I headed off to Hawaii, I was planning to visit all around in Hawaii. While I was planning, I thought Kona was the main destination to visit. However, once I arrived in Hawaii, my visa had a problem and they rejected me. unfortunately, I couldn't even did one step into the ground in Hawaii. I had to cancel everything.. I contacted to John who was owner of kona hawaii guesthouse. he understood all my bad happened and he did put all his passion to solve my problems for fully refund. He is kind and he always try to take care all his guests until anything is done by his guests. Hopefully, I can go there someday and visit this place.
