Hotel Villa Mexicana

It is dangerous not to have railings going into the pools. It's impossible for elderly people to use the pool without railings and also risky for children coming in and out of the pool. I believe it is necessary to have those installed for safety reasons.

excellent locationright on playa la ropa nice beach and great plate for relaxation

Drizzled the whole time we were here but still had a good experience. Felt very safe and my kids loved the warm pool after playing with the waves in the beach.

We stayed at this hotel after reading other guests reviews and they were right on the money. The hotel may have not been 5 star but was very clean had a great location and the staff were all wonderful. We will be returning.

was the most disappointing place I have ever stayed I booked through your site and was told any amount when I went to pay they charged my double when I question this they told me I had to pay 19 tax $16.00 sea view and the breakfast charge which They told me was included.I think this is deceitful and I think customers should be warned about this practice and I did complain so the next time I went they put me in the last back room next to the workshop with no wifi or hot water. and I had no meals there so I wasn't charge again like before I would never give this hotel a good rating it was a disgrace

The positives of this hotel is their great location directly on the beach and their wonderful staff...many who are now friends. The pool was refreshing and clean, the food was good and you have great access to many activities and other restaurants and bars on Playa La Ropa. The negatives are the rooms, especially the showers and sink area need maintenance and the Internet is horrible. Unfortunately, I had a lot of work to do and the lack of a good signal prevented me from getting much done. Overall a very good value for your money, but they should invest in their infrastructure and make it enjoyable and productive.

Our experience it was fantastic. But we didn't like the manager, she wasn't friendly with customers, and all day she was reading in the restaurant.

The staff was very helpful, and was able to solve all of our doubts and situations. We had a wonderful time, and would surely return.

Our only complaint was people reserving lounge chairs with towels and then not sitting in them! The hotel does not require "checking in or out" towels which seemed to encourage people to place on chairs early or night before and then not use. Frustrating on the days we wanted to sit.

As the title say this is our 8th visit to Villa Mexicana in as many years, standard stays the same staff are friendly and helpful food is good quality and value. I only have one criticism and that is the access to the pools, there are no handrails on any of the gorgeous pools so if you have even minor mobility issues then it is quite a trauma to get in and out.

3 star hotel very well situated on neautiful La Ropa beach. Close to tiwn friendly staff. Would happily return

Value is the key here. The rooms and grounds are basic, but the hotel is located right on the beach and very close to all activities. The staff is very friendly and can offer advice on activities. There is lots of shade from the palm trees lining the beach, and plenty palapas to lounge under. The beach is public and has plenty of activity. We were there in the middle of April and found it a very restful place. Would we go back? Yes! One thing, you could not call the US from your room, there is a pay phone on the street. WiFi is available, but you can only connect at the beach bar or restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant, its one of the best on the beach, and has superb service.

I hadn't been back to Zihuatanejo in almost 16 years but I had always remembered the Villa Mexicana. My recollection was always that it was in an ideal location on La Ropa and although I don't believe it was ever considered a 5 star hotel, it was very well appointed. Nothing has changed... (and that's a good thing!) The grounds are immaculate, the rooms are kind of basic but CLEAN and the pools are excellent. I can't attest to the restaurant since we had not eaten there but I'm sure it is good as well. I guarantee that for the money there is not a better hotel on a more beautiful beach ANYWHERE!!!

We have stayed at Villa Mexican many times and have loved it each time. The staff at this hotel go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. The locations could be no better as it is located on the beautiful La Ropa beach. The restaurant is one of the best too.

We found this hotel to be well located on a lovely beach. Staff were friendly. Food a little bland, but had an awesome "Flan". Lots of renovations being done but workmen considerate. Beds a bit hard, pillows could of been of higher quality. Could have used more furniture, chair and place (bench) to put our suitcases. We would stay here again.

i don't know why they only rate this a 3 star hotel , it's as good or better than the 5 star next store, the beach was beautiful , kept clean every day , my room was tended to every day , the people that worked there were very friendly , the food was good , what more could you ask for , really , i'll for sure stay there again !... oh ... and the beer was cold : )

Hotel grounds were clean and staff very friendly. Beds very unconfortable but hey, it's Mexico. Now for the not so pleasant... The large pool had many folks in it eating food and drinking. The adults only rule is not enforced. After marinating in it for a majority of the day we noticed that there was a very large amount of food, hair, skin, and other unidentifiable items in the water. There is a raw sewage problem on the left side of the property (facing the ocean) this drain does and will leach sewage into the water directly in front of the resort when the Mexican drainage system does and will occasionally overflow. The locals don't seem to mind??Not fit for humans trying to avoid swimming in sewage. Unfortunatley, this was not noticed/ realized until the end of our stay.

I've traveled throughout the world and often in Mexico, which I've found has the warmest and most hospitable people in the world. Zihua's a favorite place and I've stayed at several hotels. I chose Villa Mexican b/c it's on the beach and the price was reasonable. I'm easygoing and don't require much to make me happy. However, I'd NEVER stay there again. I've never been at a hotel in Mexico where guests were treated like inconveniences, and where it seemed like they were pinching pennies at every turn. Examples: 1) There are only a fraction of the number of lounge chairs available as there are guests. Unless you're there in off season, or you get up at 7 & put down a towel, you won't have one, as people leave their towels for the day even if they're gone for hours. 2) My niece called the hotel and asked to speak to me. She knew I was on the hotel patio and asked for someone to tell me she was calling (routine at even the most modest hotels). She was told to call back in 5 minutes. When she did, no one answered the phone, although she rang for more than 7 minutes. When she finally reached someone after several calls, she was told they couldn't help her. 3) She then came to the hotel to look for me, but was told she couldn't go out on the patio because it was for guests only. My niece is an absolutely lovely and well-dressed 20 year-old, so they couldn't have been worried about crime. Besides, they need only have come out to the patio to let me know she was there, which they said they couldn't do. 4) The maids are given far more rooms to clean than there is time for, and so things are left undone. This is NOT the maids' fault -- I saw them cleaning and they work very hard and try to do a good job, but they have to rush because they have to finish a certain number of rooms in a given amount of time. 5) As an earlier reviewer said, you get just 1 small bottle of water a day. That alone wouldn't bother me -- I just buy a large bottle at a store for my use. But that, combined with all the other problems, was indicative of the way the hotel was run. 6) My bath mat had a huge hole in it. Again, I'm not fussy, but this wasn't a little tear, it was a very large hole. There are other examples, but why go on. This hotel is used by a lot of the American and Mexican airlines and travel companies as part of modestly-priced package tours, and the way the hotel is run reflects it. There are many lovely, reasonably-priced hotels in Zihua, so there's no reason to stay at Villa Mexican.

We have been going here for the last three years and we love it. The location doesn't get any better for the price and the staff is always friendly. The beds and the drink prices are a bit stiff. However there are a couple mini-marts right next door to buy drinks from. We have been to Cancun, Cabo and Puerto Vallarta and we keep coming back here to visit Mexico for real.

The hotel was beautiful, clean and excellent location. The staff takes very good care of the property. Food was very good and especially the snack menu and breakfast menu were very reasonably priced. Many good restuarants are a short walk away. You can easily walk to town or take a taxi for around $4usd. We would definitely stay here again. My husband is a commerical airline pilot and I am a flight attendant so we have stayed in many hotels. We would recommend Hotel Villa Mexicana to anyone looking for peace relaxation and location
