We had a wonderful stay at Victoria Railway Hotel. Tom and Rose went out of their way to make us feel at home. We loved having a drink at the end of the day in their cosy bar. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.
A warm, wonderful, memorable experience of superb hospitality and authentic kindness My husband was ill but our wonderful host and hostess, Tom and Rosie, looked after us so well that he really enjoyed our stay in Invercargill. Our luxury suite was so spacious and grand that I could not help gasping as I walked in. We stayed in because the hotel itself was pleasant and relaxing, and really enjoyed an evening by the fire in the lounge. Breakfast in the dining room was everything you could want. This is a place that caters for all budgets and tastes with a big variety of rooms. There is a generous supply of videos and reading matter for guests. The hotel is sadly stranded in a shabby neglected part of town, however, there is quick access through a public carpark or the city library to the CBD. I only hope Invercargill City Council or some local tourism multi-millionaire company can see the wonderful potential and come and get some ideas from Brisbane's Roma Street Parklands. Tom organised all our bookings and transport and tours on Stewart Island at considerable saving and convenience. I note that over the last 6 months, probably since Rosie and Tom took over the hotel management, the reviewer ratings have all been 5/5. Well deserved. Hoping to return soon as we loved Southland and the beautiful old VRH the perfect base camp.
A gorgeous historic building in the heart of Invercargill City. Managers Tom and Rose are delightful hosts, passionate about the hotel, and you will not want for anything during your stay. Shown to a impressively appointed VIP Suite on the very top level of the hotel. Large king bed with good quality linen. Bathroom had a shower over bath, with superior water pressure. This century old building has been maintained to a high standard. Fascinating old pictures and maps line the walls. Lovely evening spent near the fire at the downstairs bar. Fresh Blue Cod for dinner, followed by a perfect sponge cake dessert. Rose cooked a marvelous full English breakfast in the morning. The hotel is walking distance to the CBD Shopping, and the Stewart Island Ferry shuttle picks up from here. A wonderful place to spend the night, and I look forward to returning in the future. Thanks to Tom and Rose for your warm and generous Southland hospitality.
The bed is firm and excellent - and even firm pillows, instead of feather ones that squish to nothing. We ate in both evenings, once in the dining room and 2nd night in the bar given we'd had a late lunch. Lasagne portion very small for $24 each - barely entree size and while a lovely flavour, not up to standard. The apple and rhubarb crumble was lovely. Toasted sandwich and cheese plate excellent as bar snacks - just right. Also good selection of cheeses - a cheddar, soft and a blue. Very welcoming management couple.
A fantastic hotel in the centre of Invercargill. Fantastic hosts who were so warm friendly and welcoming. The rooms were large, warm and had everything you could need. A large library of DVDs to choose from. An amazing chef with a very good menu to suit all tastes. The breakfast was excellent. Thank you to our Hosts Tom and Rose.
Really enjoyed my night here. On the coldest day they had had so far this winter, the hotel was cosy and warm. The rooms have been nicely renovated and the service couldn't be better. So much more homely than hotels normally are.
We enjoyed are stay at the Victoria Railway Hotel. It is more than just a hotel. You feel like part of a family. It was lovely sitting by the fire at night, meals were great. It was a perfect place to stay on a cold windy raining night.
Had the nicest experience staying at Tom and Rose's Victoria Railway Hotel! The room was cozy and so comfortable and well-appointed--the bathroom, as well. The property is a renovated building next to the railroad and just exudes charm--but the most charming part of our experience was the hospitality of our hosts. They took so much time to give us lots of suggestions about our South Island travels--great advice--made us feel so welcomed! Oh, and did I mention they served a delicious breakfast the next morning? The location is perfect--just one street off the main area where all the fun is....we'll be back!
A friend and I stayed here at the Victoria Railway Hotel last week and were blown away by the incredible art deco building and the warm welcome we received from the owners. Tom and Rose greeted us upon arrival and made us feel completely relaxed from the word go. We were shown to our rooms which were so luxurious! My room was large, light and airy. The bed was big and comfy, the ensuite was a good size with a hot, powerful shower, and the room also had a desk, tv, dvd player, plug in heater, kettle and mini fridge. I had an extremely good night's sleep here. In the evening we enjoyed a drink at the bar with a glorious fire roaring away in the corner. We felt as relaxed as if we were in our own living room! We had dinner in-house and had an absolute feast of Bluff oysters, pork in a creamy sauce, finished off with sticky date pudding. Each course was absolutely delicious! I was so impressed by this place and cannot recommend it highly enough! Thank you Tom amd Rose for your warm hospitality and for treating us to such a fabulous stay. I look forward to another visit in the future!
We stopped here for 2 nights and were very pleased with our choice. Clean, confortable and very well presented. Friendly and helpful managers. Location is great, handy to resraurants, main roads, central city attractions. Really solid walls keep it quiet. Good, private bar for a relaxing drink at the end if the day.
