First, I am a current Marriott platinum member. Second, the vast majority of my reviews have been very positive. Unfortunately, this one is not. This property puts the "C" in "cheap." Let me count the ways. First, there was no welcome other than "do you want points or something from the market?" I don't expect a shoe shine or red carpet but some acknowledgement (or even a small gift item) is the norm for Marriott hotels for platinum members. Room service was lacking. I leave a $2 tip daily and expect just basic service. What did I get on day 1? I did NOT get the shampoos and soaps refilled. Plus, I did not even get fresh washcloths. Sorta disappointing when you have to ask for a common item that should be replaced. TV? OK, but they have only the basic cable channels. Newspaper? Typically, Marriotts have USA Today or a local paper. Something. This place? Nothing. I was told by the front desk that "most people get their paper via internet." Really? I am a "techie" and like to actually hold a paper once in a while. As for the room, the toilet paper is the cheapest single ply you can buy. I expect better at a Marriott. The toilet took 2 minutes and 27 seconds to complete the simple flush cycle. I thought something was wrong. Nope. Just very old outdated equipment that every other hotel I've been in has replaced. The "snack" or dinner bar on Monday was anemic. This was so bad, only a herd of starving rabbits could appreciate. Getting the trend, here? Cheap? Charge a lot, and give the minimum. That does a lot for the profit margin, but nothing for the customer. Overall, a huge disappointment for a Marriott property. Not recommended.
We arrived around 9pm. The front desk staff was attentive. However with renovation, the side door closest to our room was unsecured. After a long drive, we didn't want to get up early but the renovations started at 8am. Kind of early in a Sunday. Breakfast was picked over. Not sure we would stay again even though we like the 2 bedroom suites of Residence Inn.
Foremost I have to recognize the staff at this hotel. They're prompt and very helpful when handling requests. My room was clean, all the appliances worked, the wifi was fast and easy to get on. I asked for a new coffee pot and a fan for the room, and had it within minutes, no questions asked. The staff received and gave me my incoming mail with no problems. I had issues with my credit cards, they fixed it all with no hassle. I stay at a lot of hotels for work, and this one seems to be next to everything. Stores, restaurants, attractions are all within a few miles. It's been rare to see so many things to do in one location. I'm looking forward to staying here again, and would recommend it for anyone.
This hotel staff was awesome. Tchelinda went out of her way to make a last minute change to my reservation due to a change in my itinerary. As I was in the middle of traveling and frantic, she was calming and reassuring. My changes were seamless to my wife and father-in-law. All three days and nights, the front desk ladies were always there to greet you and smile. The ultimate experience and person was Nita. Nita set up the morning breakfast, made it run perfectly and best yet, was simply the best tour guide of Huntsville and gave the best advice. I actually sat with her and her partner in the kitchen, Sam, as they were taking a break and she helped map out my Southern eating quest of the best of the best. Her recommendations were dead on and they came with the full backing of Sam. The hospitality of those two women, along with their kind and gentle spirits, is a true blessing to anyone they meet.
Lights in the dark parking lot were not on due to the timer not set correctly. Asked several times to have this corrected. Finally got them on earlier but still went off too early in the morning so it was dark when we got up each day to leave for our business. Poor security and safety. Found rear door which is supposed to be secured propped open, and observed suspicious activity by several males in parking lot, which was dark at the time. Marriott Rewards profile says request extra towels and we got ONE washcloth and no extra towels. The attention to detail at this location could be greatly improved. Cross this off the list of places to stay, plenty of other nice places nearby.
Who would have thought that one of the best hotel experiences I have had in a long time would be at a Residence Inn in Huntsville Alabama...... but it was. I called the day before check in to make sure my suite had the kitchen amenities I needed and found out I booked the wrong type of room. I was so lucky that Kat took my call and she worked with me to find the room I needed and she tried to not let it cost me an arm and a leg despite the hotel being very busy that week. When I arrived to check in Kat was at the desk and her records indicated my room was not ready yet. As we waited for housekeeping to confirm that status, she was already working on a solution in case there would be a delay. Kat was cheerful, helpful, friendly and seems to love her job and be strongly oriented toward service. These traits make me want to return to a property. This property is a typical Residence Inn but Kat makes the property stand out. This is now my hotel of choice when I travel to Huntsville.
I am Marriott Gold and stay in many Marriott props in the Residence Inn-Springhill-Courtyard families on business, like this trip. This property is merely adequate. The good parts are that there is a HUGE shopping center nearby with several restaurants, one being the Ol Heidelberg a traditional German-style place, mit gutes bier. In the Alabama humidity not everyone would walk, but I did. The a/c in the room is very loud, rather like a churing sound all night (in summer). My spouse would not have put up with it. No newspapers in the breakfast room. I realize reading papers is a declining business, but at least ONE copy of each major would be nice. I don't mind sharing. Limited front desk service -- often empty as I entered or exited. I waited quite awhile to buy a bottle of water and resorted to 'stealing' it. I reported myself later. Not sure whether to fault the hotel, but the water supply seems very heavily chlorinated.
I am a regular at this hotel since 2002 when it opened up, spent hundreds of nights here. Didn't like very much the first renovation, too flashy in colors. Now everything seems better and the new front desk and breakfast area add a touch of novelty too. Very spacious rooms with everything you need and even TV sets in each room or room's areas. Prices have gone up dramatically in the last years and now I guess is the expensive Marriott property in town. Strategically placed is my favorite hotel in town.
We stayed at this Residence Inn several years ago and loved it! We were coming back to the area and decided to stay again. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. We arrived very late (about midnight), and the night manager said she was locked out of computer and couldn't check us in. Since I did mobile check in, she gave us the key any way and let us go to the room. The room clearly had not been cleaned. Dishwasher was full of dirty dishes, the bed sheets had dirt all of them, and the toilet had not been cleaned. We went back and asked for a different room. She put us in another room and it wasn't much better. The Duvet was terrible, I have never seen one that dirty. It had black spots all over it. The sheets were torn and ripped. The toilet still looked dirty. It was 1 am and so we settled, and asked for extra clean sheets to cover up the old ones. I'm not sure if we were given bad rooms because we used our Marriott points or what. Something in the room also bothered our allergies (not an issue at any other Residence Inn property). About 3 am someone was outside talking on the phone and we could hear the entire conversation. Our last day there were awoken at 5 am by someone playing basketball on the court (which should not be allowed at 5 a.m., the facility should have been closed until at least 8 a.m.). Nevertheless, it was a complete let down considering how well it was kept up when we were there before. We will try another Marriott property next time. I hate I used my hard earned points here.
I arrived in Huntsville, AL & didn't have a place to stay. Found the Residence Inn by Marriott & was able to get a room. The area/hotel are very nice. the only thing was the A/C didn't work properly & the toilet continually ran when flushed. Told the hostess & everything was taken care of. Wonderful breakfast & area was clean and everyone was very nice. Great location near the US space center & other attractions.
