We stayed here for a 2 day getaway. I purchased a 2 night package through a travel agency. The hotel is a great location, very central and walking distance to the Hunter Valley gardens and a number of wineries and restaurants. The hotel itself is reasonably nice but starting to get a little tired. The room we stayed in had a king sized bed (2 singles pushed together) that was okay, a little firm for my taste. The pillows are very thin and the linen is reasonable. The bathroom had a great spa that was large. Rainfall shower was nice too. Toiletries quite cheap and are the basic mercure quality. The service was good although the 3 times we needed to go to the front desk we were kept waiting for at least 3-5 minutes. They usually only have 1 person on the front desk who was constantly on the phone. When we were served the staff were friendly and apologetic for the delay. We didnt get to dine at the elements restaurant as it was booked out. We did eat breakfast and it was typical hotel breakfast buffet, not very exciting but reasonable. Plenty of free parking! Overall it was okay and the location was the main draw card. The Hunter Valley is amazing and I would definitely go back but would choose to stay at a different hotel.
There was a nasty incident in the dining room Xmas morning need intervention ,on asking later I was told there is no security! On arrival was supposed to get completely ticket to the light show had to ask for ! Would I stay again ? Yes ! Room nice gardens pool ,strafe ,I would give them a ten ! The Xmas lunch was delightful,. Thanks you .
This was a great time we had. The staff were so helpful and soundly do enough to help. Rooms were more than accomodating. The only problem was that it was 2 beds put together to make one bed. Overall it was well worth it.
I was in the Hunter for business so I didn't get to visit the surrounds. However this is a great hotel which sits right in the HV gardens and is a good central spot to base yourself. I've booked again to come back with my daughter and we can't wait. It has a nice bar area and library which is nice for a quiet drink. The restaurant is really busy and I couldn't even get a table for 1 when I was there so book in advance if you can. The rooms are nice enough and the hotel has a pool too.
We stayed in King Suite # 706 in Dec 17. With a four star rating and a high price to match we were expecting quality, clean facilities. What we found did not come anywhere near to meeting our expectations. The cleaning of this room is lazy and the maintenance completely absent. In the bathroom the toilet bowl had urine streaks running down the outside of the bowel, the floors were only mopped in the center of the room (leaving a thick carpet of dust and muck between the toilet and the bath - unmissable on black tiles!). The plantation shutters were grimy and 80% of them were missing the bar in the middle which allows you to close the blades. This meant every night I had to spend 10 minutes closing each individual blade on the shutters to black out the room. As a family of 4 we needed 2 roll aways for the kids. Those 2 beds need to be rolled away straight to the trash. These roll aways are of such appalling quality that even my 18kg son was bent into the shape of a banana trying to sleep on it. He falls asleep in the most awkward of positions in cars, planes anywhere and doesn't complain. Yet these beds were so bad he was in tears complaining of a sore back within 5 minutes of sleeping on them. Management, if you are offering these ridiculous contraptions up as "beds" I urge each manager to spend 2 nights sleeping on them and see if they are still willing to have guests sleep on them. The old style furniture is in desperate need of upgrading - every single couch and chair in the main room has sagging or non-existent foam. Ie, they are so uncomfortable you can't sit on them. Check out the travellers photos (blue chair with African animals) and you can see how bad they are. If you are planning to use your mobile phone as an alarm, pack an extension lead or a battery charger as there are no power points near the bed. Jumping onto trip advisor to write this review I have noticed a very similar review of the exact same suite from a stay in September 2017. Clearly management have not addressed the issues of cleanliness. On checking out the staff were not interested in the quality of our stay. Overall this hotel is a big disappointment. For the standard of cleanliness and lack of maintenance of the room this hotel should be a 3 star with a much lower price. With so much more available in the Hunter I won't be returning.
Location of this establishment is ideal but that is its ONLY recommendation. We applaude the exemplary and hard-working staff at this establishment!! They are the ones "keeping this place afloat". Having said this there is a problem with not having enough staff to keep pace with the "patrons". How can you not have extra staff at "peak" times????.....no wonder your staff aren't thrilled (no!! no actual verbal communications). More importantly, we have stayed in this hallowed establishment on quite a few occasions over the last 20 years or so and the only change we have noted is change of toilet cistern....?else?...the place needs a few dollars put into it.. so many problems with the place...IT IS ANTIQUATED...read between the lines... location is location... but word of mouth is a weapon especially if one is a member of an organisation that has thousands of members looking for a place to put a "conference"...........think about it.....
We stayed in room 502, The freezer needs defrosting, toilet leaked continually, found child's shoe and lolly papers under one of the beds, our room was not serviced over our 3 days and consequently we ran out of milk, ants in the bathroom, air-con was set too high at 20 degrees when the temperature was 43 degrees outside, the plug in the hand basin would not lock, no hot water for the last 2 days, no complimentary bottles of water for gold members, and finally, the pool was closed for 2 days in extreme heat wave conditions and the only explanation given was water testing. Very disappointed. The staff when were very apologetic and obliging.
This is a great location very central you can walk to a couple of wineries. There is a very nice lounge bar area in the Mercure. We ate in the dining room the food was delicious and the Mercure team were very knowledgable and helpful. There was a very quiet calm atmosphere in the dining which made the meal and conversation enjoyable. The rooms are comfortable but are a little worn.
Good hotel to stay at, all staff very accommodating and friendly. Pool lovely for a swim. The restaurant was extremely nice. Food very very good. I had 3 courses, a combination terrine and foie gras, then macadamia coated ocean trout, and a mango style tart with coconut sorbet. All extremely yummy. Very impressed for a hotel restaurant.
We were there for 2 nights and 3 days just at the start of the Christmas school holidays. All of the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. As an Aunty with 2 small children who had not taken kids away before, I needed help and the staff were excellent. I could eat where I wanted, staff waited on me hand and foot, they catered for children's weird food requirements, the pool was excellent with toys supplied. We asked for a DVD player at no extra cost and were delighted with the library of movies on offer, no negatives at all, except the flies on 3 days of 40 degree heat. Not the hotel's fault but be prepared if travelling in the heat at this time of year. Parking was also good, outside our room!
