We have just recently spent two nights at the Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens. Our first impressions of our room were disappointing. We had spent a lot of money on our accommodation and our room looked like a worn out motel. The carpet was stained, the mirrors had finger prints all over them and the bed was broken. Then we went out on our balcony and found a broken table, beer bottle tops and the whole area looked like it needed a good pressure clean or even a mop would have done. The staff were lovely and the location was perfect but come on for the money you pay it wouldn’t take too much money to give the rooms a long overdue upgrade. At least a little bit of extra cleaning. We had an amazing weekend away regardless but feel very ripped off with the accommodation. We have stayed at the Crowne before and would choose to stay there over the Mercure if we come again.
Stayed here with a group. As others have said the rooms are looking a little tired and some rooms face the busy main road. However our room was clean, the air con effective and quiet, the beds comfortable enough, the staff very friendly and buffet breakfast adequate. A little bit of noise from on-site weddings and their guests. The highlight was the restaurant dinner - excellent meals enjoyed by all. And you can also access quite a lot of local places via a short walk.
We had an enjoyable stay. Property is well located, right next door to Hunter Valley Gardens. We found we were central to everything we wanted to see. Spent a lot of time out and about so the essentials were definitely all we needed. Good shower, comfy king size bed and a good air conditioner! Had a really lovely dinner on site restaurant " Elements" meal and service both great.
We went with a group for a four day, three night tour of the Hunter Valley & surrounds and stayed at the Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens. Our accommodation was superb, our three course dinners every night were absolutely brilliant. The food was worthy of one of the best restaurants in Sydney and the staff went out of their way to look after a group of young spirited senior citizens. Can highly recommend it!
I stayed two nights here on the October long weekend. You can't fault the location of this hotel. It is within walking distance to heaps of wineries and is attached to the Hunter Valley Gardens. In saying that, the room was a bit dirty and outdated. The roof needed a clean and so did our veranda area. Breakfast was included in our stay, and was reasonable- a standard buffet. Overall, I would say it was overpriced for what it was, but not a bad spot to be based. I would stay here again.
The location of this property is second to none but that is where it ends. The decor is beyond tired, the service is bland. Think of a Motel that sits next to a highway. The biggest disappointment was the bed. Or was it the dark shower, no it was the bed. Worth about $120 a night.
The resort looks great from the street and the outlay of the resort is great. However it is very dated and needs a good paint and clean. Dirt and dust has built up in areas and the outdoor areas and pavement need a good pressure clean. Enjoyed the stay and it's close to the gardens and wineries which is its attraction. Could leave the car and walk to wineries and eateries.
Stayed last night with family of 2 adults and 2 kids. Stayed in a studio room with 2 double bed and there’s also a sofa bed. This is our third time to stay at this hotel. Best value for money if going to the HVG. We went to Mega Creatures Adventure which was amazing fun for the kids especially getting unlimited rides! We got room 705 which is perfect location as we have direct access to the pool and very close to the restaurant where we had buffet breakfast. The room was clean and spacious. We have stayed at 2nd floor 3 years ago which had balcony and a view of the lake/valley but it was not as spacious as our room this time around. The only disappointment was the beds as it is getting worn out and they need to be change. It’s was too soft and we have even stayed at motels which had better beds than what they have at Mercure HV. The package we had also included a cheese platter and it was so nice to munch on after a full day at HVG. Family tickets to HVG and buffet breakfast was also included. Buffet breakfast was good too, had enough hot and cold selections. Not the best one I’ve had for a Mercure hotel but it was so filling. The coffee machine had really good beans and I even had 2 cups of coffee! The kids finally got to enjoy using the pool this time around as the first 2 x we’ve been at MHV was winter. Even though the water was still a little chilly the kids spent a lot of time in the spa where the water was warm. Always beautiful scenery with well manicured gardens... We will definitely always choose to stay at Mercure Hunter Valley.
We chose this hotel because of a good deal we got on groupon and because of the location. We really liked the idea of being able to walk to a few different vineyards and the Hunter Valley Gardens and Village. The location met our expectations and it was really nice to be able to walk around, do some wine tastings, and have everything at your doorstep. So, if location is your #1 priority, I would recommend this hotel. However, if you want anything else from a hotel I would look elsewhere. The rooms are small and dated, the grounds are lacking any real character and the hotel is right on a busy road so it's definitely not 'tranquil' I would not pay a lot to stay here but if a good deal comes up it may be worth a go.
I have stayed there many times. It is a beautiful property. Brilliantly located with an incredible restaurant. That particular weekend was amazing - very short walk to the gardens, shops and amazing wineries.
- Free WiFi in rooms and public areas
- Free parking
- Onsite dining
