First of all, I struggled over whether I should write this review. In the end, I thought it was important for prospective guests to be aware of the regular insecticide spraying at this property. The low rating is due to the lack of forewarning by management. The good: the staff is welcoming, the property is lovely, the honeymoon suites (though very dimly lit) are HUGE and clean and come with an outdoor shower, and the breakfast is good and plentiful. Now the bad: the unannounced, industrial-strength, mosquito spraying of the grounds. Some poor guy walks the property with a large, gas-powered, insecticide sprayer fogging everything in his path. There was a small note in the room stating they do spray, but no notice of this prior to our reservation or upon check-in. If you are at all sensitive or even concerned, you will not want to be exposed - especially on top of the ever-present, lung-clogging motorbike exhaust, street dust, and cigarette smoke pollution of daily life in that region. We left the hotel early because of the spraying and ended up forfeiting a night’s stay. The management was very apologetic and genuinely sad we were leaving early, but could only say the chemical is deemed safe by the government. Yes, I know the resort is in the jungle, but guests should be forewarned about the fogging. And if a guest opts to vacate for this reason, the night’s stay should be refunded. In addition, the property is a good 15 minutes out of town and not convenient to restaurants, bars, or really anything. They do run a free shuttle, but the trips are very limited. While being a lovely property, it would be a long day if you stayed only on site - especially in the heat of summer! One more thing, the hotel attracts a lot of bus tours but this didn’t impact our stay at all. The busses seem to arrive late in the day while we were out, and depart early in the morning before we were up. I suspect that as we booked directly on the hotel’s website and were a couple traveling alone, we were upgraded to a honeymoon suite to keep us farther from where the bus crowds were staying. We appreciated this. We wished we had stayed in town at the beautiful and historic La Residence Hue. Check it out.
Old and weary for a 5 star. Bathrooms very basic with shower in the bath without proper shower head attachment. Overpriced restaurant with basic flavored food. Positive is the very friendly staff. Pools look good. I recommend the Vietnamese coffee for breakfast.
Love the resort and the very friendly, helpful and attentive staff. It’s troublesome to move around the resort when it rains heavily as there are no covered walkways. Otherwise we had a very good experience of the resort. Nice spacious bathroom, bedroom and balcony. Breakfast was a good spread. Dinner menu was a good selection of western and Vietnamese dishes. We ordered Vietnamese pho, some starters, fried snapper and dessert. All were well cooked and delicious!
A few days before we arrived in Hue, cdntral Vietnam was hit by a trical storm and the second worst flooding on record. The evening we arrived, the rain was still coming down in biblical proportions. The resort was an oasis of calm however. The staff were incredibly attentive, from the driver who picked us up at the airport through to the charmi g Opetations Manager, Maiwa, who bid us goodbye two days later. The site is beautiful - like a tropical paradise. The rooms are huge, well equipped and very comfortable. We didn't use the either pool, but they looked fantastic. The restaurant was also very good, with a wide choice of western and genuine local Vietnamese dishes. We took advantage of the free shuttle in to Hue the next day to look around the town and Citadel. The weather was beautiful until the evening when the rain returned. If you're coming to Hue to visit the local historic attractions, this is a great base. The town itself is not somewhere to spend a lot of time as a tourist though - there are better locations to experience Vietnam. The hotel provided a car to drive us to Hoi An with stops at Lang Co beach, the Hai Van pass and Marble Mountain.
Our excellent 2 night stay at the Hue Pilgrimage Resort in late September was enhanced by the flawless assistance of the hotel staff. On arrival we asked to be remotely located in order to fully appreciate the tropical serenity of the resort. In the event we were upgraded to a beautiful villa by their thoughtful and welcoming Operations Manager Miwa Hayashi. The cool elegance of the high ceilinged vernacular house with its tree-lined pool, provided the perfect relaxed backdrop to our sightseeing in Hue. We visited a number of the exquisite palace-tombs in the vicinity, as well as the magnificent Imperial City in central Hue - choosing to have dinner each night at the Hotel restaurant, where the food and service were both of high quaity. We had planned to travel at nightfall on our last day to make the most of limited time in Hue. Miwa – again effortlessly gracious and obliging - helped with arrangements and scheduled a hotel limousine for the two hour drive to Danang. Our thanks again to Miwa and all the staff for a very memorable stay. We would certainly recommend this beautiful resort as a base for visiting Hue, and hope to visit again.
Pilgrimage Village is a gem inside Hue. I love the swimming pool, the ambience, green trees, the facilities. One thing I didnot like, though was the fact that the place is quite far from city central. They did provide shuttle bus but I often called taxi which would be quite costly.
Came from Han oi but the weather was awful. However this resort was a very welcome stop. Good food . Buffet breakfast very good as was the restaurant. Lovely spacious room, bathroom and balcony. We could not use the pool because if the weather, but it looked nice. Plenty to see in town
Our arrival started with a couple of positive surprises: 1) we got a free upgrade in the honeymoon suite (which we wouldn't have chosen for our honeymoon but as a free upgrade it's great) and 2) we could move in before the official check-in time. Further positive surprises where the spa promotion. If you stay here, use their spa. Their treatments are incredibly relaxing. Also the pool is really nice and good for proper swimming. The breakfast for 345 kVND is rather expensive but offers really a great and delicious variety of food. Also it's very easy to make use of the 20% discount once your laundry bill exceeds 1 mio VND - and that happens quickly if one has to pay by piece. As the resort is outside of the city it is very peaceful; however, the trips into town are rather restricted if you rely on the free shuttle bus which runs like every 2.5h and you already need to know your return time as well. Alternatively you can just get a local taxi (hotel transport costs between 3-6 times more). The English level of the staff is not as good as in the other hotels we visited in Vietnam.
We loved our stay at this resort. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Everyone greeted you and offered assistance above and beyond. The manager was extremely responsive and inquiring of our needs. The pools were excellent and breakfast very good. Rooms were comfortable for a family and we thought the resort was excellent value for money compared with others in Vietnam. I also purchased some lovely gifts at the tasteful souvenir shop at the resort. Thank you to all staff at Pilgrimage Hue we really enjoyed our stay.
Arriving at this place provides a desperately needed respite from all the noise and the pollution of the city - it's green, harmonious and spacious. The rooms are huge and comfortable, likewise the enormous bathrooms with both shower and tub, a big plus. However, a few things could be improved. First of all, the complimentary short massage offered at arrival to only one person. If you are travelling with someone else, this is extremely odd and to my opinion very unprofessional. If you have decided to provide a service or a bonus to your guests, than that should be offered to all of them. Second, the very unfrequent shuttle bus that goes to the city stops at very inconveniant spot in the city, far from all the main attractions, which makes it pointless. We used lots of time to find the spot and ended up taking the taxi back. Last but not least, the lighting in the room is dull, and in combination with the lush vegetation outside it makes the room gloomy. Other than that, the restaurant is very pleasant, but, also oddly, plays out-of-place flamenco sounds that are being blended with the karaoke from the neighbouring compound. The spa facilities are absolutely beautiful, but be prepared to pay an outrageous price for the treatments, double than at any other hotel of the same standard and many times the price of spas in the city.
