This hotel is an exquisite combination of upscale class and old world charm. Its location couldn't be better. Immediately across the street is a green space and the Perfume River, and from there you can see the looming walls of The Citadel. The hotel is also a short five minute walk from a new and bustling part of the city, a center of nightlife where you'll find endless restaurants, bars and shops. The Saigon Morin itself has a terrific restaurant located in its beautiful interior courtyard. The meal we had there was excellent and the ambiance was everything we could have hoped for. When we return to Hue next year for a longer visit we will definitely be staying here again.
Ambience from a past era. Beautifully appointed throughout, impeccable service, food cooked and presented as my partner, a chef expects, individualised as she required for her allergies (shellfish). Beauty salon and massages very well priced and extremely competent. If Morin doesn't have it they arrange it for you. Within an hour my wife had a gel nail beautician in our room to do hers, this was arranged from outside their normal services, the same with posting large items to Australia.
A well preserved facility dating to the time of the French occupation of Vietnam. Very comfortable room facilities and excellent breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The view of the Perfume River is special. Easy access to the city sites.
Location and the charm of the Hotel. This is an historical hotel with 116 years but there has been a visible effort to keep it updated. I believe this is the hotel to stay in Hué. The kids loved the swimming pool and the free pool at the bar. Great stay!
And we will be back next year! This is by far the best in Hue with a terrific staff, always accommodating and very friendly from the time they picked us up at the airport. The tour desk was extremely helpful in making our stay fun, interesting and informative. On our first visit, 3-nights, we experienced the different temples from the Nguyen Dynasty. This trip, 7-nights, we concentrated on the awesome Hue cuisine, supplemented with very good fare in the hotel to include a good wine list. Breakfast was also a highlight with a different Vietnamese soup everyday and a vast array of western and Vietnamese food. On top of all this the location is perfect, close to Dong Ba Market and the Citadel. Looking forward to our return next year, thinking 10-nights. Aloha
We were bumped here from the hotel we were going to stay at as they were overbooked. We had two great rooms on the first floor overlooking the river and the bridge. The rooms were both very large - bigger than anything else we experienced in Vietnam. The check in was prompt and efficient. We were within our rooms within minutes. The service elsewhere throughout the hotel was equally excellent, consistent with what you might experience in a 5 Star hotel. The beds were a little too hard for our liking as were the pillows. Each room had a large working safe. Water was provided each day. The rooms have wooden and tiled floors, which is great for the heat. A number of other people have expressed concern with the showers. Yes the shower is over the bath, the shower has a shower curtain, and the water is slow to drain. But if you pull the drain cover up and out then it drains quite quickly, and it was not a real issue for us. We used the sauna and steam room, which although not complimentary, was very good. We also used the pool and billiard table, which are complimentary. The pool was excellent with a decent deep end at 2.2m and a shallow end for those a little less adventurous. The breakfast provided is a very decent one, as good, if not better than elsewhere in Vietnam. This is a grand old hotel with a lot of character. Yes it is slightly worn in a few places but not as much as some people would seem to make out. It is very well located and really has a lot going for it. We were quite happy with our stay and suggest that it is a very good choice if you are in Hue for a few days.
This hotel has the best location to get around most of the most famous attractions in Hue (walking street, Trang Tien bridge, Dong Ba market, Quoc Hoc university). The staffs are kind! I stayed in deluxe river view room. It has great view to Perfume River and Trang Tien Bridge
Our 3 days in very warm Hue were all the more enjoyable because we had our period oasis to retire to to refresh ourselves between explorations. If you're after chrome glass and 21st Century glitz this is not the place for you. If you are after friendly helpful staff, and enjoy comfortable rooms with a Vietnamese French decore and feel in a historic building that is perfectly located by the river and the bridge you will enjoy the Saigon Morin We took our breakfast early in the courtyard before the day warmed up and enjoyed the fountains and the open air. Special thanks to Anh on reception who went out of her way to help us sort out an economical alternative to make sure we could visit the tombs outside the city when a tour we had organised with an "agency " masquerading as Sinh Cafe Tours operating out of Google Hostel in Tran Cao Van turned out to be a con.
This is a well-located historic hotel near the Perfume River, but its best days have come and gone. You can easily see that it was once a gorgeous place. However, its decor and furnishings have gone rather shabby, and it needs a renovation. The hallways and elevator are not air conditioned, so they are ungodly hot. Thankfully, there is AC in the rooms, and it works well. Breakfast is in an outdoor courtyard, and the service is very inconsistent. Some staff are friendly and accommodating, others are downright surly. The food is okay at best. If you're lucky you can sit by one of their large fans, which helps with the heat, but you may also find yourself seated next to a smoker, as smoking is apparently still allowed on their patio. The first room we were assigned was smelly (musty from age like the rest of the place - you can smell it as soon as you walk in the main door), dirty in places, had mini-bar snacks and drinks that were so dusty they must have been put there in the 1980s, and had a bizarre shower that sprayed not down on you, but directly horizontally so that it hit the opposite wall then flooded the bathroom floor. It was actually necessary to hold the shower head by hand, soap up, then manually rinse off. The last time I experienced anything like it was at a 500 year old hotel in Siena, Italy. We actually asked our travel company to move us to a different hotel, but instead the Morin's management, to their great credit, asked us to allow them to try and remedy the situation and moved us up a floor to a large suite that was very clean and had a functioning shower. We really appreciated their care and attention in that regard - many places would have taken your money and done nothing to make it better. So I would say that whatever the Morin calls itself in terms of star ratings, it is a 3 star at best. It will be great if it is ever renovated, though.
You can do better. It's obvious this hotel used to be 5 star, best of its kind. Today, there's no a/c except for in the room, the shower is tiny, and the breakfast is just ok. I wanted to love this hotel considering its historic significance, grandeur, and enormous rooms. Sadly, it's too rough around the edges.
