Stayed this April 7-14 as a solo female traveler. I had requested a room prior to arrival and was happy that I recieved that room. All rooms are large and some have better views than others. My view exceeded my expectations as I was able to enjoy swaying palm trees nearby and a great view of the ocean from about 1km away. Having stayed there last year, I was surprised that the food was better in 2017. The last time in 2017, there were yummy little pork chops, grilled chorizo and guacamole. This time, there was guacamole only once and if I asked the staff, they made it for me but I would prefer not to have to ask since one would expect it as a staple in a buffet. There were no pork chops or chorizo and the chicken stew was repetitive and the beef stew needed work. I really loved it there, but staff need to understand about safe food handling. One day at the beach snack stand I decided to try a burger and saw the cook handle the raw meat and she was about to handle a bun without washing her hands, so I took the bun myself and did not try to explain as my spanish is limited. I believe had I not taken a peptobismol pill prior to eating, I would have become ill. I also saw a cleaning staff member, who I will not name take dirty garbage out of a can with bare hands and not wash their hands afterwards. Really, if you're on a budget and you are not a germaphobe, this is a great place. The patrons and staff are all very helpful and friendly with positive attitudes. The landscaping is beautiful with lots of older towering palm trees to enjoy. The transportation trolleys run frequently and waiting is rare. Also, the trip to the beach brings you alongside a scenic golf course with truly magnificent massive trees to enjoy. The night lounge is boring except for karioke night. The bartender Manuel at the lobby lounge was very attentive and I enjoyed his vase art with flowers. Good attitude too. I really love this place considering the views and great beach, but was dissapointed with the buffet foods. Desserts were great and I loved some of the soups, but it was better last time. The two capitans, especially Juan Jose at the beach buffet were great and very personable. Thanks for the guacamole Juan! Vincente was great too! Also, the local Mexican guests were so friendly and open, just wonderful really. I got invited to join a family for dinner at the buffet and they were so warm and kind, had fun having them laugh at my funny face drinking tequilla. Love the mexican music too! Thank you Park Royal for two great stays, I appreciate all the hard work and effort made daily. I would recommend your resort to others. Just please improve the food. I would have loved some echilladas with pulled chicken breast meat and re-fried beans and even cheese quesadillas and guacamole every day!! And pico de gallo! Muchas gracias!! Hasta luego! Great Staff!!! And, be careful of the big waves, go to the beach la Entrega if you need to swim in the calmer ocean. Don't get tossed like me! Sand rash sucks...
If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful, friendly, warm, relaxing vacation with your family, this is the place to go! We had never even heard of Huatulco when our travel agent sent us the recommendation. We were considering going back to Cancun, Cabo, or Puerto Vallarta, all beautiful places, but we were so happy we chose to go to Huatulco instead. I can’t say enough nice things about it. The Park Royal was wonderful, accommodating, and the employees are top notch (some of the hardest working people I’ve ever met). They go above and beyond for their guests! Just to name a few that stood out during our week: Ruth Noel, Franco, Ramon, Francisco, Andres, Mayra, Armando, & Julien. I didn’t get any of the shuttle driver’s names but they were wonderful too. If you want an authentic Mexican vacation, this is it. It is very helpful to be able to speak some Spanish. The food was outstanding, the drinks were delicious and plentiful, the pools were clean and warm, the beach was breathtaking, and the people we met from around the world were so friendly. It wasn’t crowded at all, and in fact there were times when we pretty much had the seventh floor pool to ourselves. We traveled with two children ages 13 and 9, and there was plenty for them to do to stay busy and be happy. It is very hot in the sun is intense, so be sure to take extra sunblock with SPF 50 and above, no joke! It’s only about a 20 minute drive from the airport and taxis are always available and very cheap. I would recommend traveling with lots of cash, and if you can exchange your currency for pesos beforehand that would be very helpful, as you want to be sure to tip the employees for their hard work. When we checked in, our room was on the 4th floor, but we asked to upgrade to the 10th floor so we could have a view of the bay. It was less than $300 for the entire week (for the upgrade). The picture is our view from our balcony, room 1034. The iguana that visited us on our balcony was a fun bonus! The beaches were not crowded and the shells are beautiful! Finally, the flag photo is from dinner one night. I highly recommend the Park Royal in Huatulco!
I’m writing this sitting at the pool on the 7th floor.... have been here 5 days and enjoying interacting with the friendly people that work here and soaking up lots of sunshine. If you want fancy over the top elegance...go next door to Dreams and pay double the money. Personally, I like the smaller friendly interactions with the staff and the other guests we have been experiencing. The rooms are huge...we are in building 3/5 and the view from our balcony of the ocean across the street is wonderful. A short walk up a ramp/driveway takes us to the stairs to take you to the pool level that has a bar and great restaurant also. The glorified extra long golf carts are always available to run you up and down the hillside and to the beach across the street. Yes, it would be great if the funicular was still running to go up and down to the various levels, but even with my knee that gives me grief, I am managing. The buffet on the beach has some variety, again, nothing fancy, but a different theme every night besides the basic salads. I am a picky eater and I’m definitely not going hungry. We have enjoyed dinner at both the Mexican restaurant by the tennis courts (twice) and once at the 7th floor pool ( Italian) — they alternate what place is open and you need to make reservations for the evening meal. We prefer eating breakfast and lunch from the menu on the 7th floor restaurant, but you can eat at the buffet or beachside snack bar if you want. The beach is small, but the 3 times we went there so far, we always found a spot to sit on chairs and loungers down there. We just found the music too loud and thumping to listen to all day... but they need that for the Zumba, water aerobics and pool volleyball activities they present daily. We brought our snorkel equipment and found if you walk a short ways down the beach closer to Dreams, they have a bit calmer water because they have some rocks and little islands to break the huge waves. We saw a turtle, tons of fish and even a stingray skimming along the bottom. To sum it up...an enjoyable week so far. Special thanks to Wilbreth, Noe and capitain Raul who served us so well in the restaurant and Lorenzo the bartender who mixes delicious drinks. Noeli at the beach buffet always had a huge smile for us whether we were eating there or just coming down to watch the nightly show that takes place on the stage in the buffet dining room. Since you have read this far...If I can ask one last thing from you... please, please tip the staff! I know it’s an all inclusive, and you work hard for your money to be here....BUT, so do they. They depend on tips to survive and a little generosity on our part really does make a difference in theirs. They work long and hard trying to please us and make our vacation the best it can be. Thank them for sharing their world so yours is a little brighter.
My family decided to try this Resort since it seemed like a Fun Family Resort. Pick-up, checking in, and the Resort in general was good. This is a destination where many Mexicans go to vacation so we thought that it would be safe. The food was always fresh and tasty, drinks were very watered down, and the Poolside Concession stand was DANGEROUS! On the 3rd day there, my husband wanted a snack so he went for the Nachos. This is self-serve warming oven and he was electrocuted! It threw him back and he was stunned, and his right hand did eventually blister. He went immediately and complained since the cook at the Concession spoke no english. The Restaurant Manager said they would look into it. The next day we noticed that the Nacho Oven was removed. The following day, assuming that it was fixed, I went for some Nachos and I got electrocuted! It threw me back, the oven door went flying across the deck, and my right arm and leg was numb for days. I was so angry, especially after I noticed people around me were laughing. I went immediately and complained, explaining that if someone had a Pacemaker, this could be very serious. The Restaurant Manager said he would look into it. The Nacho oven was never removed and no-one else seemed affected by it. My husband and I complained to Roman, the Concierge at the Resort who spoke excellent english, and he said he would look into it. On our shuttle back to the airport, we discovered that 2 more Canadians staying at this Resort were also electrocuted and very upset. They too complained to the staff and were also confused by how none of the Mexican tourists were affected by this Nacho Oven. We all now wonder if this was a practical joke? Not very funny and it seems so suspicious...We will never go back to this Resort due to these incidents. We have complained to SunWing and to date, no reply.
The staff were FANTASTIC! My wife has mobility issues, so the hotel wasn’t good for her! I had to carry her walker up and down flights of stairs. The rooms were spacious and clean! The food was good enough to eat. The bartenders, Wilberth, Lorenzo & Roul did an awesome job of making drinks! Thank you for your great service everyone!
I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend March 20-27th. The reason I booked this hotel is because it was a bit cheaper than the others on the beach and on the website it looked like you had an ocean view. My travel agent requested an ocean view room with Sunwing. When I arrived they told me they did not get the request which later Sunwing confirmed and they were going to put me on the first floor. I said I am staying at this hotel for the view. The hotel is on a mountain! I had to upgrade to the 10th floor and pay an extra 200 dollars. I currently have a complaint in with Sunwing. This is a scam and no where on their site does it tell you it only allocates up to the 5th floor. Once we got our room it was beautiful with two lounge chairs on the balcony and a lovely view. They stock the fridge with pop but no beer. The food The food at this hotel was good at the buffet. Lots of fruit and vegetables The 7th floor sit down breakfast is wonderful. The a la cartes were awful. the Italian one has a great view but the lasagna tasted like Beefaroni and the ribs were some grizzy mystery meat. The Mexican restaurant told us they were full when we called and so we went down without a reservation. There were 6 tables filled and at least 7 empty. Hmmm. The food was terrible there too . We ended up going out to eat twice to a rib place across from Dreams that was amazing and watched the hockey game. Beach and Pool There are two pools at this hotel. The 7th floor which was very nice and the other one near the beach. The beach is far away, across the street. We did get lounge chairs that are very uncomfortable and the vendors bother you every minute. We did book a wonderful boat excursion with Abdulio . We saw dolphins and whales and went snorkelling. We did not do any of the hotel excursions. Going to town was fun and cheap and cost about 8 dollars return. Lots of shops and market shops. The service at this hotel is excellent and the housekeeping is excellent too. You can get up and down the floors with a golf cart and they are readily available except when we had to check out we waited 45 minutes. The hotel was quiet and small and we met a lot of people . I would not return though because I like to be on the beach and the food was tiresome. If you can get this hotel for a good price it is worth it but I wouldn't pay a lot for it. Huatulco is beautiful and the weather is amazing, I do not like scams though.
For those who are looking for economic hotels, this is a very good option. It's all inclusive (you can eat and drink all you want), service is good, food is very good and the shows at night are a good way to close the day.
We stayed for 1 week in March in a 4th floor room. The room was very spacious and clean and we had a great view and huge private patio! I don't think it's necessary to pay for an upgrade. The food and drinks were great. Plenty of options. Try to get to the restaurants during opening hours because the pool/beach snack bar lacks variety. The staff were all friendly and helpful and they work very hard. We did notice that a lot of patrons didn't seem to be tipping, Please tip the service staff! Great, safe area. Do yourself a favour and check out the nearby towns and other beaches. There are many and they are all amazing! Taxis can be found in front of the hotel and are affordable and have fixed rates. There is also a motorbike rental place nearby called Aventura Mundo that's great!
We stayed at Park Royal for 2 glorious weeks in February. We ate at the a la Carte's during our stay as we found the food to be so wonderful and the service terrific. Our room was on the 10th level and the view was amazing. Lots of walking at this resort however there are carts that run all the time never wait very long ever. Everything at the resort was easy to get to. Most of the staff were so nice and service is good. There are taxi's right outside the resort to go to town, which is only 10 minute away. So many really nice places to site see in this area. We loved this area so much that we are considering buying. So CLEAN, AND SAFE. You definitely will love this resort, just make sure you book a room above the 6th floor.
We stayed at the Park Royal from March 14 - 20. There were a total of 5 of us travelling to the hotel. I had read some of the reviews prior indicating that the rooms from the 6 - 10 floor were updated and in better shape. I was able to contact Mario Osorio prior arriving at the hotel and got our rooms upgraded to the 7th floor (well worth the money). I spoke with some people that were on the lower floors who also upgraded and did not regret paying the extra. Mario was very helpful throughout our stay. Please note that if you have mobility issues, this might not be the hotel for you. The check in was quick and efficient. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The view from the balcony was amazing. The buffet restaurant by the beach was hit and miss but you could find something to eat. I would recommend having breakfast at the 7th floor restaurant. The selection is better and it is table service. The Italian restaurant (which is on the 7th floor) was disappointing. The Mexican restaurant (which is by the kids pool) was amazing (highly recommend) The beach in front of the Park Royal sits high and there is a slope to the water. The beach pool is busy and has a snack bar. However make sure to ask them to cook the hamburgers a little longer. I found the drinks a bit weak and you would have to ask them to make it a bit stronger. You can get fresh oysters right from the beach vendor which were amazing. The pool on the 7th floor is much quieter and you can get snacks at the restaurant located there, much same at the snack bar food by the beach. Having said that, please if you have a portable speaker there is no need to blast your music at full volume. That was a bit annoying. Also to the father that decided to jump off the balcony over the 7th floor bar into the pool, please be a better role model to your kids that were watching. The staff at the Park Royal are amazing. Everyone is very friendly and do go out of their way to help. A special shout out to Manuel and the other server (he had a white streak of hair - sorry I forgot your name). The area is very safe and just outside the hotel to the left there are a couple of very nice restaurants. We had an amazing feast at Alebrijes (highly recommend). There is also a town nearby, La Crucecita, about a 7 minute cab ride. I would definitely go there to the square and to see the church. The cab ride with tip was 50 pesos (a little over $3 CDN). Another fun pub was McCarthy's Irish Pub. The live band there was really amazing. I would definitely go back to the Park Royal but since this was the first time in Huatulco, I would like to check out one of the other hotels as a comparison.
