A warm greeting by a very helpful and friendly receptionist was the beginning of our stay. The rooms are large, spacious and clean. They are also well appointed and very quiet. The hotel is located close to the city centre so that their is plenty to do in the evenings. My favourite pub was the "Flying Saucer". Craft beer! My only very OCD criticism was that there were three TVs and a radio competing for attention at breakfast. It was just too much in the morning. The breakfast is adequate. Great place to stay.
I actually stayed here in Feb of 2016 but haven't been able to get this review completed until now. I stayed here with my dog to attend a soccer tournament. Staff was so good to my dog. She got so much attention every time I came in that she kept wanting to go back outside. They also went out of their way to locate the nearest grassy area for her to potty (a block away behind the police station). My dog passed away several months later and this was the last good trip I had with her. I treasure the memory. Thank you staff for making it such a great stay for her. The service was exceptional at this Residence Inn (RI) and all other aspects are what you'd expect from a RI. The hotel is a block from the light rail. Lots of homeless people on the streets in the area but this hotel is across from the police station so it felt safe. Breakfast and the mixers had good food.
We were delighted to find a great location, brand and price ($79) all in one place. This may have simply been "too good to be true". We arrived a bit early, left our bags at the Front Desk and were assured we would get an "end of hall" room as my wife has listed in her Elite profile. When we came back at actual check in time, we found a room that was nowhere near the end of the hall. We had to return to the Front Desk and get that fixed. The woman working the front desk seemed rather surly when we had arrived - and indeed, she had either chosen NOT to take care of us. Or intentionally put us in a bad room. All was forgotten though once we got to be moved down the hall. Despite the age of the building, we slept soundly, not hearing noise from nearby rooms. The bed and the overall room were fine. The next morning we decided to "hit the pool" before another hot active day. Oh brother - what a mistake. The pool was full of hair balls, bugs, dirt, etc. The pool side was littered with dirty towels and bottles. This was at 8:30am when the pool opened at 6. We risked dipping our legs into the water. On top of that, there were no towels down there. On either the Residence Inn side (where they don't seem to stock them) or the Courtyard side (where we had to call to get them to refill them). Breakfast was OK - but only one fresh fruit out (honey dew - not even that good a one). After a great visit in Portland, ME at a Residence Inn, this was a letdown. There are plenty of choices in downtown Houston on the weekend - and lots with reasonable prices. We'll pay a little more next time and find a better place. Overall location and room were fine. Everything else was a bit dicey.
Very nice hotel in downtown Houston, close to other attractions and to the metro streetcar system stations. The hotel has a pool and a fitness area, both clean and easy to get to. The folks at the front desk were helpful and courteous. Would definitely stay here again. Just FYI, rates are astronomical for big events like conferences, but affordable other times of the year.
loved our room which was ready when we arrived (think it was 723 from memory). early afternoon. Woman at reception (Miriam?) was very friendly and helped us out with directions to a nearby hotel where our city tour next day was departing from. Gave us a rundown on facilities in the hotel and even gave us a small map. Breakfast was good. On the last day dining room was very full with a school sports group also in residence but within 15 mins they left and things were a little quieter. We did hear some street noise but not enough to be a problem. I think our jet lag probably helped us sleep through the worst of it. Room was spacious and clean and suited our needs. Would happily return here and recommend it to others. Pool looked nice but did not get a chance to use it. Not sure if would get all day sun as overlooked by high buildings. Gym was nice and clean.
I stayed at this Residence Inn for business since it was close to a meeting that I was going to have the following day. The woman at the front desk (Megan M.) was extremely pleasant and even enclosed a nice hand written note to welcome me on my arrival.
We had a WONDERFUL visit!! This hotel was very easy to find and so was the valet parking. The front desk attendant was so friendly and all smiles. The room was amazing with a great view of the city. The room with the two bed suite was definitely bigger than what we expected. Kitchen and bathrooms were very clean. Beds were really nice and so were the pillows. It was really nice to have 3 tvs in the suite everyone was happy. We left before breakfast but it looked to be really good. This hotel was walking distance to everything we needed. So the $30.00 parking was fine with us. NOW FOR THE REALLY ABOVE AND BEYOND!! We requested a high floor for my son and we got it!! Then in my reservation I asked if they could do an elephant and a bag of skittles for him and OMG!!! They did it!!! He was ABSOLUTELY EXCITED!!! We have asked for this from many different hotels we stayed at in the past but it has never been done. THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! ❤❤❤❤❤When we come back to Houston we will stay here again!!
We stayed here for the better part of a year, for training my husband had to do for work. They went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. From Valet, to the front desk, to breakfast, to housekeeping, and everything in between. I hope we are able to go back and visit them again, next time we're in Houston!! They treated myself, my husband, and most especially my son like family.
Stayed one night. Rates are reasonable as Houston can be expensive mid week. Great staff checks you in, got my Elite Member benefits, booked a larger suite. The Hotel is new, the building is not, but the history has been preserved and the renovations they did to make this a Marriott property are really quite spectacular. I don't usually stay at these types of hotels for the free breakfast, as I usually don't care for the food. However, this is not your typical residence Inn, nor is this a typical breakfast. Great variety, a massive and service oriented staff, even walking around with free smoothies. Overall, I was blown away by the Residence Inn. Not always an fan of residence Inns, as they just my thing. But this one stays in my travel portfolio. Great Job Everyone.
This is not the usual Residence Inn. Rather, it is one of 3 Marriott brands located in an historic Houston office building. Although unusual, Marriott pulls it off with a Courtyard and Spring Hill Suites also on site. We prefer the Residence Inn as it alone offers a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite of about 800sq ft or so.Our suite was on the 10th floor and was fairly quiet for a city RI. Predictability is what you get as all RI are close to the norm and provide a spacious and comfortable home away from home. Variables are the food service and staff deportment. This RI excels at both! The breakfast is at the high end and most staff were pleasant and competent. Although I do not care for the mandatory valet parking, it is a small price to pay for a fine downtown suite.
