Scandic Grand Marina

Hotel is very nice, but rooms on second floor are very noisy from restart above and have traffic on day time

The hotel is indeed very good. Spacious, clean rooms, excellent beakfast, helpful staff, nice location etc. The only complaint we had was the lack of coffee machine in the room. We were surprised because we had recently stayed at 2 Scandic hotels in other countries in the region and both of them had such machines. Nevertheless, we highly recommend this hotel particularly to leisure travellers.

Fairly quiet yet convenient location. Great Scanic buffet. Beware not to leave belongings unattended though, Heard several guests had their bags snatched. Friendly staff. Was waiting for a delayed bag, but unfortunately the person who accepted it didn't know the TV notification system wasn't working, which meant an extra day without my bag. Nice sauna.

Nice hotel, loacted ideally near the city center. Room cleanliness needs a lot to be disired though. Beds were not even properly made up and floors were not cleaned. Breakfast quality was ok, but it was chaotic during that time.

This hotel is very conveniently located minutes away from all the happening events in Helsinki. The rooms that face the water are terrific especially if you can get one with wide opening windows. It is one block away from the 4 and 4T light rail line, about two blocks from the presidential palace and the Market Square and is a good value at about $80 to $100 U.S. dollars

The Scandic Grand definitely lived up to its 4-star rating, with a delicious organic breakfast and a quality Finnish sauna creating a world class experience.

Good hotel in Helsinki old town, big rooms, very good breakfast always included. Very good place for families with children.

About a 10 min walk into town. My biggest complaint was there wasn't any air conditioning and it made it hard to sleep. They didn't have any porters either, and we had a lot of luggage and were tired. The breakfast that was included was very good. The lobby was comfortable and attractive.

The rooms are great, the breakfast buffet is complete and delicious and the hotel has lots of cool amenities like a gym and sauna.

Good location but not a 4 star hotel, rooms should be refreshed

First, I would definitely stay here again. It's close to the sights for a tourist, the rooms were comfy, the breakfast was good and convenient, and you get to sweat with some naked Finns for free. The price was right and I thought it was a great value. The Grand Marina is a big hotel located near the main harbor area in Helsinki. It's walkable to all the sights, but being on the periphery, it's nice and quiet. It's about a 15-20 minute pleasant walk from the main train station. There's a supermarket nearby, but not a lot of bars / restaurants in the immediate area. However, the bar / restaurant at the hotel is nice. Tram #4 stops about a block away from the hotel. It's close to the Viking, Linda Link, and Suommenlinna ferries. Despite the fact that it's pretty much in a dead-end area (on an island), there's a lot of traffic due to the ferries, but I didn't find the traffic noisy at all. Despite the proximity to the harbor, there's not much of a view from most of the hotel due to other buidlings. I was able to check in early after an overnight flight, so I was pretty delighted no matter what the hotel did after that. The room was okay (a little small), but very functional and you don't feel crowded at all. I guess the hotel is limited because it is built into an old warehouse, but in a land with plenty of space, the rooms could be bigger. It was very clean, the bed was comfy, and there was enough space for all my stuff. The hotel gets pretty busy. It seems more a business hotel than a tourist hotel. The freebie breakfast gets a little crowded at times, but the food is excellent (big spread with all the usual Scandinavia breakfast fare). There's a free sauna to complete your Finnish experience by sitting next to a bunch of naked Finns. Try it, I'm not a sauna-guy, but it was fun (my naked Finns were quite chatty and sociable despite what I read). There's also a little gym there and free bikes for use, another fun thing for this Helsinki tourist. I had only good experiences with the staff. They were very nice and helpful. Check-in and check-out was smooth. There's a little gift shop at the hotel with standard Helsinki prices. I think there's free parking at the hotel. The WiFi worked perfectly from my room. I thought it was a very good value. The price was at the lower end of Helsinki hotels (my room was about 140 usd/night), so I was pretty happy.

a beautiful place near the quay

We decided to stay in this hotel because we were taking the ferry to Tallinn next day. By the time we arrived to Helsinki, it was too late for the ferry and thus we had to spend a night there. From the airport (22 km away) we took an airport bus into the railway station (6.20 Euros), then a taxi to the hotel (about 12 Euros). Taxis start charging at 8 Euros, which is high. The hotel was alive with teenage girls, we never found out why they were there. The hotel room was clean, a bit small, equipped in the usual spartan Scandinavian style. Since we had a long travel, we decided to have supper in the hotel restaurant (it was 10:30 p.m.). I had salad, my wife had assorted hors d'oeuvres, including reindeer. Not bad, with a glass of wine, the total bill was 38 Euros. The only English language program on the TV was BBC news. Again, in typical Scandinavian style, in the bathroom there was no bathtub, only shower. The soap provided was liquid in a container, to serve as soap and shampoo. The room was quiet, we slept well. No double bed, only two twins.

For a business trip, this hotel is perfect, next door to the Helsinki convention center. There is free internet, and free computers are available. The place is very quiet, within easy walking distance of the tourist harbour and all excursions. The rooms are very small, not a big issue, since Helsinki will keep you busy. Before booking this hotel, however, check the rates of the fantastic Best Western, a converted former prison, a block and a half away: a luxury hotel, at a cheaper price.
