Hilton Avisford Park

service

Only disappointment was the unwillingness of kitchen staff to help me prepare Scandishakes, the powdered food that needs to be mixed with milk. Following surgery, I am restricted to liquid nourishment.

Crowne Plaza Basingstoke

Unfortunate problems arose with this stay

Hotel was under major reconstruction, but I was not made aware of that at time of booking. The floors, walls were unfinished and the noise out front from the work on the concrete was loud. When I arrived, the people at reception were nice, but they forgot to inform about the breakfast being included or where it was located, so ended up missing breakfast until the day I left. I could not get a "to go" cup for a cup of coffee or tea from the waitstaff. No elevator, I had baggage and tough going up stairs, difficult to get to my room. Had problem with the electronic key cards not being able to open the door. Could not open window to get fresh air when the room was stuffy, and the air conditioner was older, so when needed to cool room it was difficult to figure out how to turn it on. I hope that when the renovation is over all these problems will be fixed, but the experience wasn't worth what I paid for it, at this unfortunate time in its choatic state.

Old Thorns Manor Hotel

Nice hotel but housekeeping a bit hit and miss

Always wanted to stay here. Sprawling golfers' hotel and business conference venue with a spa that is popular with groups of ladies on Day Spa visits. Comfortable room and a great breakfast. Service OK, except housekeeping which is a bit hit and miss. For our first 2 days the bed wasn't made properly. The duvet was simply pulled up - sheets weren't flattened and pillows and our PJs were untouched. On the 3rd day it was done properly. Also, the electronic program guide on the TV didn't work. I reported it to Reception when we arrived but it still wasn't fixed 4 days later when we left. The hotel has a large swimming pool and poolside seating area which is nice, also a large jacuzzi with a waterfall above, but the waterfall doesn't work when you press the button to operate it. Overall, the hotel needs to be better looked after by staff with better attention to detail. On the plus side, because of the decline from previously very high standards you can stay here for quite a reasonable price these days, especially on a weekday. It's not busy, except for the crowds of golfers and they are all outside.

The Hog's Back Hotel & Spa Farnham

Nightmare Mattress

After the first bad nights sleep due to the mattress we complained to the front desk - we were told that housekeeping would swap it out. We complained again after night number two. We had the same mattress for the whole six night stay and did not get a swap out as promised. Room 101 is right next door to the cleaners office - we were woken every morning to the sound of people continually talking and laughing.
