Booked on, we arrived late as we had been travelling to Hanoi. The receptionist didn't welcome us and looked annoyed we had turned up so late!! He then told us he had no rooms!!!!! I explained I have booked and paid for this and he said " have your money not us"!! After quite a bit of shouting in Vietnamese to his colleague they gave us a key to a room! We thought we were getting a superior room but it was a standard room with no windows, not great for £30!( the most we've paid after being in Vietnam for a month). The other quite rude receptionist the next morning told me it's my fault for turning up so late all the good rooms have gone!!!! Never experienced rudeness like it especially in Vietnam! The room however was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a shambles! Throughout the day I got ill and rather than move we booked another night. The room we got was much better, with a nice big bath. Location is close to the river but not much else. Thankfully we have found a lovely hotel where the staff are friendly and polite! Think this hotel need to send staff on a "customer service" course!

The hotel is neat and clean and good for short business stay. Wifi is free and good. The food including breakfast is lousy so I would instead suggest that you walk down to some really nice restaurants within 100 m from the hotel

Stayed for 1 night only during our trip. Though arriving Hanoi in the summer, not as we thought in advance, the hotel is actually very very hot. It looked quite old from outside, it's dark inside at the lobby and in the corridor. Every where in this hotel is hot, even in our room. Air conditioner didn't seem to work. The background music is nice, but the decoration is just more than terrible that made us confused for the hotel's style, not sure whether it's European or Asian. the wifi is free but low signal Breakfast was poor for the price we paid in compare to the other hotel, though it has a good view from the restaurant to the west lake area. Bath room is small with shower and the water was quite slow to get leaked off it's floor, would not come back this for the other time in Hanoi

there's no hotel that the old and ugly owner stayed in the restaurant serving for breakfast like in this hotel. we asked for a little ice for our morning's drink but she just refused. all staffs hardly spoke any English except for the reception, rooms are small but enough if you don't take too much luggage. It was truly dirty as i found a lot of hairs on the floor. The hotel's isolated and is far for the old quarter. it's boring and then can be dangerous at night while walking around as not a lot of lights and late opening shops around.

i stayed here two nights in march. maybe it was the overall impression of the city that made me like the hotel... the window view perhaps. my floor was 5th, and there are 11 total with a restaurant on top. i asked to change my room three times, because of the cigarette smell it had. in the end it seems, the smell came from the lift hall, where it is allowed to smoke. yäk(( each room has a teapot and some decent tea. a hairdryer also. there is a good restaurant nearby and a supermarket next street, named q mart or something...there is not much to see in the area except a catholic church, and nighttime is not at all safe, but it is not far from the lake.

The location of this hotel is deally suited for you to walk around sites like the lake, markets, museums, restaurants etc. The service is equally desired with capable staff. Staff's level of English might not be great but they do try and they understand better than they speak. It makes your stay in the city an enjoyable one when you feel safe once you reach the doors fo the hotel. Rooms are comfortable and faily clean.

I stayed a few places in Vietnam during my travels in Nov. and Royal Gate Hotel stands out clearly as the best. We were recommended by our awesome tour guide in central Vietnam and it was a great find. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the breakfast on the 10+ floor gives you a great view and the breakfast was awesome with good selection. Most things to see or do are about a 10-20 minute walk away so that's a nice plus, and it's not on a noisy road with very comfy beds so you get a great sleep. Above all the staff and especially my now good friend, Ha, operate at a 5 star caliber that I have experienced few times in my life. I wish I could give them a higher rating than 5/5. Should I ever be in Hanoi I will most definetly be back to Royal Gate Hotel. Thank you very much!

The hotel is ideally located in the center of Hanoi. It is just a few steps away from Truc Back lake where you can find local markets, restaurants, museum at the same area. If you like strolling around, enjoying the lake view and the wind, this is the perfect place for you. The staffs there were very friendly and helpful. We booked Deluxe room but we were upgraded to Premium as special offer for our vacation. They gave generous range of food choice for breakfast. Would definitely come back again and highly recommend to friends.

Very good value, spotlessly clean, well located. I stayed here on a work trip and was very happy with the room and service, and I had a nice view over West Lake. The staff were very helpful. It was a short walk to some major tourist sights.
