It was a little difficult for our tour bus to get to the hotel because the driveway is narrow. But get there we did and were greeted by a very professional staff. This was our last stop after a two week Mekong River cruise. It was nice to be in a sophisticated hotel with the bonus that Chinese New Year was going on. The hotel is very modern. The general manager greeted our group as we arrived. We had the good fortune of having a room facing Westlake. It was so peaceful and tranquil. It was made all the more so by having breakfast next to the lake. As a bonus there are many restaurants within walking distance of this hotel. Our last meal was at an Australian bar where it was reported they had the best hamburgers around. All in all this was a great location with great rooms and wonderful, attentive service.
A great hotel for the city..a bit out of the way for walking but conveniently located to get around in the old part of the city by taxi. Rooms are clean..good sized rooms...outstanding breakfast...good restaurant within (Saigon)...do not drink the tap water as per usual. Beautiful views over the lake and other parts of the property. Would recommend it..
Overall the service here was quite bad compared to other intercontinental hotels worldwide. I heard this is the hotel Obama stayed at, and locals were quite proud to talk about that, so I always wanted to give it a try. So for a business trip, I have the chance to stay there but was purely disappointed. The attitude of the guy at the front desk (called Dung Bui) was so bad that I felt I needed to write a review about it. Also, there were dengue fever outbreak (thousands of people got infected) the week I arrived in Hanoi, but there were no single notice given by the hotel, even though the hotel was surrounded by the lake. I hope the hotel could put more attention to who they should put at the front desk.
We stayed on 2 separate occasions in October. First room on 4th floor with great view. Second time in separate pavilion. Room seemed smaller and local fishermen were a bit noisy during the day. Our stay included buffet dinner one night which was sensational. Breakfast offered a wonderful selection. It was very cheap to get a taxi from Hanoi.
We had two nights here as part of a Uniworld tour. While the hotel was beautiful (American style) and the rooms generous in size, this was not our favorite place to stay in Hanoi. The dining options included a very expensive buffet option for breakfast, lunch and dinner or la Carter with limited and expensive options. Restaurants upstairs included Italian and Asian cuisine but both were only fair in quality and expensive. Our biggest issue was it’s remote location. Not able to go anywhere without a cab. We had previously stayed at The Apricot Hotel, a gorgeous French style hotel, in town, across the street from the beautiful lake with walking options and observing the locals doing their early morning exercises. So the Intercontinental serves your hotel needs, but there are better and more convenient options elsewhere.
The hotel is about 30 minutes away from the Noi Bai International Airport. Opted for the airport transfer service by the hotel and was received at the arrival doors after baggage collection. The vehicle was luxurious and comfortable for the short ride. Upon reaching the hotel enterance, a front desk staff welcomes you as you step out of the car and greets you by name. The check-in process was a breeze and you are in your room in no time. I was very amazed by the level of service here. I was checking in at a separate check-in area due to the membership status with the hotel chain. I was sitting down throughout the check-in process while they took my documents for verification and processing. Once done, I was led to my room and provided with a quick introduction to the amenities in the room. I got the room on the level 5, overlooking the buildings and road across the lake which was just a short distance from my room and that made it noisy. Could hear the traffic noise and even dogs barking in the middle of the night. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, clean and well maintained. There is a small living area with a sofa and coffee table right across the bed, a study table beside the main door, a small walk-in wardrobe which could be hidden away by folding doors and 2 balconies. The king-sized bed I got was very comfortable and a good range of pillows to choose from. The bathroom comes with 2 sinks, and 1 bath tub and a shower stall with option of using the normal shower or rain shower. Had my meals at the level 1 hotel café which also serves daily breakfast, except one dinner at the Vietnamese restaurant on level 2. I enjoyed the meals and the service provided. Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a meeting in Bac Ninh, which is about 45 minutes away by taxi and about 20 minutes by taxi to the city centre. There are taxis standing by for hotel guests 24/7. The hotel compound has a swimming pool, gym that operates 24 hours and in house massage service (expensive and not very professional). Took a walk around the hotel which is built on a lake which offers amazing views of the lake! I would suggest that you take a walk around the hotel during the morning or evening as it is very relaxing. Thank you for the overall good stay as with any other Intercontinental Hotels around the world.
Very nice hotel with good restaurant and excellent Sunset Bar. Staff very attentive and rooms clean and quiet. Right on West Lake with good city views if it’s not too smoggy but about 10-15 minutes by cab to downtown. Next time will stay closer to downtown.
Our stay at the intercontinental in Hanoi has been a delight. Beautiful rooms with great views over the lake. The staff are ever so pleasant and eager to assist with anything you may require. We had a problem with a noisy neighbour that security attended to as soon as we advised reception and the management has contacted us twice to apologise and ensure we were okay.. Well done to the management and staff of this beautiful hotel.
I have been lucky enough to stay in a number of very nice hotels around the world but have to say this is up there with the best. My room was out over the water and looked straight across the lake. I won’t bore you with details of the hotel and its facilities as there are plenty of other reviews available. What made this hotel was the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. If you’re staying in Hanoi you really should consider the Intercontinental.
The best staff service, most comfortable beds and pillows, great food, great view, great location, the best room I ever had. Hmmm, what else could I ask for? I've stayed at IC's in different locations in SEA and so far, InterCon Westlake Hanoi is currently my favorite. Timeless Charm, Impeccable Service, Great Food, Goodnight Sleep
