Showed us our room choices and we chose, knowing we were staying 3 days. The hotel knew we were staying 3 days as well and after the first night they downgraded us. Every morning the included breakfast was totally cold! We though maybe because we slept in till 8:30 it was cold. Next morning at 7 am, still cold. The butane lighters under the food were not used. Next morning I ordered the omelette. Ummm not an omelette. It came as a fried egg. Breakfast noodles also were like having ichiban. Shower pressure on or off, no way to tell. Most often cold. Ran out of toilet paper every day. They only put one very small roll in the room. Door man so busy looking at his phone, he never actually got to the door before we opened ourselves. Beds hard. It was clean, I will say that. In Vietnam there are two types of hotels, and they are not in between; clean and dirty! The location is superb. If they just did a little bit it could easily have scored higher.

Was checked in by our tour company for a shower before we left to catch our train. The water temperature and shower pressure were terrible. The water took quite long to hear up. There was a rain fall shower but it was not working. The shower head only managed to spray tiny bits of water. Ironically, the water pressure at the sink was so great that my clothes was sprayed when I turned on the tap. Was glad that I don't need to stay the night.

We were directed here from the excellent Hanoi Elite as it is the sister hotel. It is nowhere near the same standard, Location is good but that's as far as it goes. Breakfast was a cold, congealed mess of leftovers and when I asked for some butter the attendant popped down the shop and appeared with some dubious byproduct of the petrochemical industry. If it is the same firm as the Elte then it needs a shakeup.

I recommend NOT TO STAY at Hanoi A1 Hotel. I've worked in the travel industry and received excellence and terrible hotel experience but this hotel was the worst experience in customer service I had ever experience. Hotelier messed up our reservation and we were only allowed to stay one night and not two night as confirmed in our booking. They never called us in advance to information us of the situation and simply told us that they booked us a 2nd night in another hotel when we arrived. They promised us that tour bag would be move to the other hotel the 2nd night but never did. All they could not is apologies. When I asked what Hanoi A1 Hotel would do to compensate us for the inconvenience but all they did was apologizes. They never bother to give us a discount or anything. What a terrible place. If Hanoi A1 Hotel messed up on reservation then have the courtesy of telling your guest in advance and moved the bag to the hotel that was rebooked for the 2nd night. I'll never stay here again.

Pretty run down hotel, with peeling wall paper from water damage and room smelled of cigarettes. Excellent location, we were allowed to shower before check in and after check out, staff helped us organise a scooter to hire. Good selection for breakfast.

Unfortunately we were not informed about construction next door when we checked in!!!! From two different places we had noise from 7 am til 6 pm - horrible! The breakfast could be so much better, if the assistent would look at he food and offer you eggs etc, instead of looking at her phone all the time......

The A-1 hotel sits in the heart of the old district making it the perfect place to get around. The hotel is old and cheap. The people are friendly but with very little English. The rooms are small and clean but who spends time in the hotel anyway. There was no breakfast at the price. No problem. There are plenty of places to eat. When short of money this is tour go to place.

First of all, I must say that the hotel owner (James, if I am not mistaken) is really nice & accommodating. BUT the hotel bathroom had a faulty heater. The heater was working inconsistently - most times being boiling hot!! We were fortunate to be placed on the 7th floor, in a room (quite worn-looking) at the back of the hotel, where it was quieter. The rooms facing front would hear the loud noises coming from the busy street in front. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, but ended up staying only one night as the noise from renovations next door became unbearable in the wee morning for the other couple in my travel party (2nd floor room facing front) and for me and my husband. James was kind enough to arrange an alternative hotel for us to stay in down the road.

This Hotel has a perfect location and very friendly helpful staff. It can absolutely not be brand new as stated in their own description of the hotel. It is a little run down - but you get what you pay for and this is good value for money. Especially if you have a big room as we did on the 5th floor.

This hotel location is perfect if you want to be around the Hoem Kiem Lake area and price is good n cheap as compared to others BUT UNFORTUNATELY their neighbor is doing renovation works and is extremely noisy! Impossible to sleep. As early as 7am we can hear the reno works starting and by 8am its drilling next door. Its not this hotel's fault and the manager is so nice to arrange and move us to another hotel up the street (3min walk) with less noise, without any charges. Seems this reno works will last till March 2017 . Othee than this, hotel service n staff are very good & friendly. Bfast also provided-simple n sufficient. Room at HanoiA1 is simple. A bit dark.
