Crowne Plaza Hamburg - City Alster4.0 out of 5.0

Great hotel, no doubts. Very silent location close to downtown (20 min to walk or 5 min by bus #6). Hotel is clean, personnel is professional and friendly, breakfast is great. Really great. In the lobby great choice of teas available 24/7 absolutely for free. I have marked this hotel as favorite for Hamburg in my Evernote.
We used this hotel, a chain we are used to, for exploring Hamburg, and found it very convenient. In the three days we were there we toured Hamburg's attractions on foot from the lakes through the Old and New City and the docks without once using public transport. Not far away are plenty of popular restaurants on the Lange Reihe. We booked a Comfort Room, expecting there would be extra facilities but when I enquired I learned that the difference between a Comfort and Standard room is simply the location, i.e. not on the front, by the bins, garage etc, so being quieter. The room was pleasant, and the bathroom good, and plenty of fluffy towels. However, the chairs were not very comfortable and there is no communal lounge where guests can relax. We found this a disadvantage .Breakfast is very good (but no marmalade) and with good service.
My second visit to the Crown Plaza. Parking: There is parking available outside the hotel. The hotel is very typical Crown Plaza look, if you've previously used Crown Plaza, there is a degree of comfort in the fact that you know the standard to expect. It's very clean with the familiar decor with friendly staff The hotel is accessible from street level, and lifts are available to take you up to your room. The food was fine, a good variety of breakfast choices were available. The Room: The basic room I occupied was reasonably sized, with modern decor, good shower over the bath and free toiletries. Tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer and ironing facilities were also available. A fridge was also available. Mattress and pillows were fine. For a city hotel the room good blackout and was very quiet, even with the window open, which made for a good nights sleep. Wifi: Free very fast wifi was available. Summary: I was happy with my stay. The hotel has a good atmosphere and attentive staff. Due to time constraints this was just a bed for the night. However I will certainly return to explore Hamburg in more detail. You'll be fine here, so book with confidence.
The first impression of the hotel was ok, prim and proper, that's why we came back the second time. The locality of the hotel is good, we are spoilt for choice for dining options within walking distance and the city center is 10-15mins away by bus. The tea corner is near the hotel lobby is something unique and brilliant which I haven't come across in other hotels. Only thing is we didn't feel welcome when we return. The receptionist clearly told us we had club access when we checked in and we thought it's because we just got to the platinum status... key didn't work and when we return to the front desk, another gentlemen to attended to us this time . "Oh why did you think you have club access?" "Because we are told upon check in." "There's a mistake, even platinum and elite members don't get club access." They did offer us a "complimentary" access for their genuine mistake for one night. 1. We don't need the club access. 2. The club lounge is not that fancy. We have visited better lounges at other hotels, my husband is not impressed at all. 2. Why would we ask for such access if it wasn't told to us. Ok so we learn now that the IHG platinum members have no perks. In comparison, the SPG and Club Carlson have better loyalty programs.
Stayed 3 nights at this wonderful hotel We had an executive king room with lounge benifits The mini bar in our very large room was free. The lounge had free food and alcohol drinks. Breakfast was ample and excellent The staff were very helpful and nice As travel agents we would certainly recommend this hotel
Hamburg is a popular city with tourists, and offers a range of accommodation for all budgets. The airport is well connected to most areas of the city by train / u-bahn at a very reasonable price. The crowne plaza is approximately a flat 6 minute walk from u-bahn station Uhlandstrasse. However, note that this station does not have a lift and therefore not disabled friendly as their are a number of steps to negotiate. The hotel is located in a leafy residential area close to the alster lake. Its a good walk into the city centre, but well worth it. Their are no shops/bars in the immediate area of the hotel, but a short walk (check your map for directions) and you will find some facilities. We arrived at the hotel just before 1pm. We knew that we were early for check-in at 3pm, but hoped our room would be available. Unfortunately not, and we did have to wait till the official check-in time. We were allocated a double room despite requesting a twin room. However, this was immediately dealt with by the friendly reception team, and we were soon relaxing in the comfortable bedroom. Our third floor room was towards the rear of the property. Their is no view to speak, but was in a very quiet location. Excellent for someone who does not sleep well. The room is well appointed including flat screen tv, air con, tea/coffee making facilities, safe, minibar etc. The hotel offers free internet access, and the signal in the room as well as reception area etc was good. The hotel has a bar and restaurant, both of which seem popular with guests. Menu prices are standard for a 4 star city hotel. We did eat in the restaurant, and i have to say our choice was excellent. My only little gripe was the cost of a soft drink. over 3 euros for a 20cl bottle of coke / fanta (a standard can size is 33cl) is a lot for a non standard size soft drink. The bar/waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very busy, as their was a tour group staying at the hotel. Their was a very good choice of hot and cold dishes, drinks etc. on a buffet basis. Note that we had purchased a room rate that included breakfast in the rate. as other TAs have reported, breakfast seems expensive If purchased separately, so get a room rate with breakfast included..its well worth it! Their always seemed to be taxis available at the hotel entrance, which is good news especially for business travellers. Our taxi journey to the new cruise terminal took approx 20 minutes, and cost 29 euros. Overall a good stay. If you are looking to stay somewhere quiet and comfortable, then the CP is a good choice. If you are wanting to be more central and surrounded by bars etc, then perhaps an alternative hotel may be preferable.
It wasn't to far from the airport I think €25 in a taxi, got there check in was quick and easy! My room was lovely. My only problem was all the channels were in German on the tele, sometimes there's an odd English speaking channel :/ that was my only problem! It was short distance from lovely little restaurants & a park. The sun was shining so there where boats on the water it was gorgeous! Breakfast was lovely the next morning and they had my taxi waiting (which I ordered the night before) but all in all lovely hotel! 👍🏼
Very good location , not middle of crowd but very short walk to centre and lovely lake . Lovely people worked there and very flexible and helpful for check out time . Comfortable bed and very clean . Breakfast was expensive though compare to the area that u can have breakfast buffet for €10 It was €20 which was redic.
Been to Hamburg last week for business and stayed at crowne plaza for two nights and if to be honest my overall impression is quite divided between positive and negative. So I had to stay at the hotel for 1.5 days straight to prepare a presentation and head off to a B meeting on Friday noon. I stated that at reception with hope they'll understand I need a quiet room, as I did say I have to work from my room. Instead I got a room right next to the cleaning staff and woke up at 7AM after working till very late. I was quite upset as this was not my intention at all. I did put the "do not disturb" sign outside my door but it was completely ignored by the maid who couldn't care less about smashing empty bottles into her trolley. So I got out and kindly asked her if she could be a bit more quieter. She said yes but kept making noise so I could no longer sleep and had to wake up. The final result was me being extremely tired on my very important business meeting - not cool crowne plaza!! Other than that: - as a spire member I got an email saying I was upgraded. When I arrived to my room I found the same booking class I initially booked which was a standard room. I do understand an upgrade is subjected to availability, but if you are not upgrading why would you say you are? - my reservation was for a queen bed yet I got a twin bed, which I didn't like. - club lounge isn't for free for spire members as it is in the rest of Europe (which is fine) and you have to pay for it. Food at the club lounge isn't amazing but also isn't bad at all. There was one incident I encountered where I poured myself a glass of red wine which was open, to find out there were loads of dead fruits flies in my glass. I didn't want to take a picture of it because it was really too discussing to look at. - In regards to the lounge as a spire member I was not offered to have the option of using it even after I said I'll be working from my room. I literally had to ask. The staff reception should tell the guests it's there so they can decide if to use it or not.... Pros: - The hotel is centralized - Breakfast is nice - wifi is quite strong
This hotel is situated in a lovely suburban area of Hamburg next to the Alster. The 10 to 15 minute walk along the water is a treat in itself. It's the most popular walking jogging cycling route in Hamburg and its obvious why. Watch the sailing boats, people having bbqs, eating ice creams from the caravans along the way. The hotel itself has very welcoming staff, beautiful foyer with a novel tea house. We had booked a club room which although more expensive was great value as there was access all day to the high floor area with coffee, alcoholic drinks, food etc. Because of club room booking, we had access to either limited club room breakfast or full amazing restaurant breakfast. Large rooms with nice outlook. Just what we needed after a 19 hour flight. The local suburban streets are well worth walking around too with the beautiful homes.
