The smell of cigarettes perforated through the stairwells and into the guest rooms, particularly on the first floor. There is no elevator, which can be an issue if you have a lot of luggage. Staff are not willing to help out with luggage because they claim to be a 2-star hotel. Will not return to this hotel.

Very clean and comfortable hotel! Everything went smoothly from check in (we were able to store our luggage in the breakfast room) to check out. Our room was spacious and we were able to adjust the heat pump for heating the room. The continental breakfast had a nice variety of pastries, yogurts, cheese and meats. I enjoyed being able to have a large freshly brewed coffee. I would happily stay here again. The hotel is in a good location for walking to the old city.

Property is dated and old. Typical Portuguese rudeness during front desk interactions, but not bad. Property states it has laundry facilities, not true. It also states it is wheelchair accessible, which is not true. There is no elevator and there are stairs to go anywhere in the property.

This a nice, clean hotel in a central but quiet area. Staff were fantastic. I only give it 4 stars, however, as there is no elevator above the first floor. The property clearly states this on its website but it's still a pain to drag luggage up the stairs. There's also no coffee in the room.

A convenient, well-kept hotel

This was a charming, well kept, small hotel in a very convenient location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The included buffet breakfast was delicious and plentiful.

A quiet, cozy, tasteful choice

Ideal location and quietness. Mestre de Avis is a modest hotel but feels more than a two-star hotel. The bedroom was spacious as well as the bathroom, both impeccably clean. The decoration of the bedroom is minimalist, smart, tasteful. The hotel is placed at the city center, but not by the bar square (5 minutes walk) which makes it a very quiet. I had breakfast at Clarinha (highly recommend Amores) or Camir ("Napoleão" for the afternoon tea) and have no opinion on their breakfast.

Due to recent one way street changes in the area, GPS does not give accurate information. Hotel has asked for changes to GPS. Best found in the daylong got hours or ask for directions one you get close. GREAT LOCATION

Great Choice!

Great place to stay in town especially for the price! Easy walking distance to central district of town and all local sites. Staff extremely friendly and helpful! Morning breakfast which was included in price, nice, fresh, and filling. Rooms, clean, comfortable. Only two comments for improvement. Bolt down in room safes and provide directions in town to locate hotel. ALL GPS devices that we used did not help proper streets to use in getting to the hotel.
