First the positive points: nice service of regular staff and good breakfast. Negative points : front desk staff rude and dismissive (the only unwelcoming behavior I have encountered in Guatemala where people are polite and always nice and welcoming). Our suite number 319 was next to three other suite where extensive works were being carried out even and night and on Saturday and Sunday: lots of noise, dust and smell of paint. At check out several items were added to our bill and it took a lot of time to prove to the dismissive staff at front desk that these items were not consumed by us and we were two people and we were charged 3 breakfasts!!!!!
Spent four nights at this hotel. Our stay was very pleasant. The rooms are nice and large but could use a few updates. There appeared to be some mold in the shower/tub. The food in the restaurant was excellent. The staff was attentive. The shuttle driver, Oscar went above and beyond as we needed to press him into service one evening. The traffic in Guatemala City can be heavy. It seems to be unpredictable. Allow plenty of time to travel to and from the hotel especially during the evening rush hour.
I rarely leave poor reviews of any kind but in this case I was so surprised by our treatment and was provided with no other avenues for feedback when requested. I will start by saying that the hotel is beautiful and the grounds are really phenomenal. It is truly a unique spot though it is right off a main road which leaves the pool area adjacent to a major highway. The challenge for us was that with the customer service of the front desk staff and our room. We had a number of challenges with our room, which normally wouldn't be a real problem except for the disinterested response we received from the front desk staff. The very poor service from the front desk began at check-in and was consistent all the way until we left the hotel. It was made clear that we were not the clientele that was a priority on our treatment, response, and even smirks and laughing by the front desk staff. I truly haven't experienced anything like this at a hotel. We arrived to a room with a broken balcony door, items missing from the room, and a suite that was nothing like that described in our booking. We went to the front desk to flag these things and received a dismissive and poor response. The hotel was nearly empty and there was not an offer to change rooms, and apology for the state if the room, or even any sense of care conveyed. After multiply requests (three different phone calls) we finally had the maintenance man in our room for 30 minutes to replace the lock. Given the caliber of the hotel, it seemed strange that we were not offered another room but also that the front desk staff seemed genuinely inconvenienced by our requests. It was really poor customer service at the end of the day. In addition, we did not have hot water in the bathroom for showers, requested a bottle opener twice by phone from the restaurant which was never provided, and even came back to our room in the next morning after breakfast at 9:45am to find they had already begun cleaning the room, removing our coffee and even bringing the new towels for the next guests. When we shared these concerns upon checkout, not even a slight apology was provided. The woman simply asked if we wrote them down so they could be verified. I have traveled extensively and have honestly never revived such poor treatment from the front desk staff. It was really quite uncomfortable and really disappointing as we had really looked forward to ending our time in Guatemala here with its great reviews. I must say the restaurant staff and housekeeping staff were lovely and we greatly appreciated their kindness.
It is a great Hotel for business purposes. It is on the outsides of the city, but had a great location for me. All the Hotel team was excellent, good food, room clean, gym adequate. I only had a little miss understanding regarding my pick up at the airport, but manager compensate the mistake.
Living in Lake Atitlan we often head to Guatemala City for a weekend retreat, king size bed, room service, pool and spa. We found Hotel Vista Real a treat from the moment we entered the Hotel. Instead of standing in line to check in you are seated in very nice chairs facing a person that speaks both English and Spanish to check you in. The rooms are impressive, huge, baths with tub and showers. Quiet is also an important fact in considering any Guatemala Hotel. As some hotel in Guate city are in the fight path of planes landing till 1 in the morning. This hotel is out of the downtown of Guatemala City, ten minutes by shuttle. Shuttle service is free, restaurant is a cut above the normal hotel restaurant food. The staff great kind interested in your needs interests and always offering help where needed. Would I stay again yes. Keep in mind you are outside of the hub of downtown Guatemala city.
Due to a symposium participation, I was in Guatemala recently. The event was in a meeting room of this hotel, thus the logical decision was to stay there. This is, in my opinion, a unique hotel in Guatemala City. Elegant, clean, superb service, excellent food and spacious and luxury rooms. The most important thing to me is that the rate is very accesible for anyone. I strongly recommend this hotel when you travel to Guatemala City.
The hotel looks really nice inside and out, fancy and very clean, the service was good not excellent, we order room service and hade to cancel it because never show up on time or late... the pool was to cool to swim in it and hade to settle with the hot tub instead, food was good, service people was helpful but will probably not chose it again.
This morning, as we have been doing it for the past 3 weekends, we went to have breakfast at the Hotel Vista Real and we were deeply disappointed. There was no table available for 2 persons, it seems they eliminated almost all 2 persons tables favoring 4 persons. Although we were there around 9:00 am, the attendance was high and they asked us to wait even having a reservation. We would gladly waited a little to be seated but our stewardess was of no help so we just decided to leave. We used to visit the Hotel Intercontinental but the 2x1 promotion ended do we moved to the Vista Real... unfortunately today is a turning point, it will no longer be among our preferred places for breakfast
Rooms are quaint and comfortable. Hotel a bit too far away from city downtown and major attractions, and transport to major hub areas expensive. Shuttle services restricted to few and certain hours only. Restaurant and bar very pricey for what they offer.
We were only at Hotel Vista Real Guatemala for one night, but we enjoyed our brief stay. They gave us a free upgrade to a massive suite which was way more space than we needed, but we were appreciative! The grounds are well kept and the colonial decor is charming. The hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating. If you're in town for a quick stay, it's a stress-free place to stay outside of (but close to) the city center.
