Hotel Vista Real Guatemala4.5 out of 5.0

What ever happened to this hotel? It used to be one of the nicest in Guatemala City. Not only for its unique architecture and good food, but specially for the “high class” they were proud to deliver in every little detail. Regrettably, since my last few stays I have been witnessing a steady decline in customer service and quality control. A bad sign is the towels. You can tell whether a hotel pays attention to quality and guest experience by just looking at their towels. Vista Real’s are worn-out, looking, rather grayish, and smelling of chemicals. Certainly not fresh. Same problems with the replacement towels. The front-desk staff was not rude, but mostly indifferent. And the bed, oh the bed. It was so hard and uncomfortable I wondered if anyone from management had ever slept in their own beds. I was probably just unlucky of having assigned the torture room - or perhaps not because in my previous stay I had the same problem. Internet / Wi-Fi was slow, and inconsistent. Nowadays a first-class internet service is not an extra, but one of the most basic amenities in a hotel. Current management seems to be not nearly as obsessed with quality, friendliness and customer service excellence as this hotel used to be many years ago. This is what happens when financial people replaces real leadership.
Amazing hotel beautiful views spacious suits but distance from downtown is far and with Guaremala traffic it’s a problem But I was there fora wedding so it did not matter the distance cause even church was close I recommend this hotel for couples and even for family since my brother was there with his and they had a blast
We have been to other hotels in Guatemala but without a doubt Hotel Vista Real is the best colonial luxury hotel, and without doubt the food and attention are part of that very pleasant detail, the waiter Elmer made our experience even better with a great attention and always with a smile, and we will return again to stay. Thank you
The hotel is nice, breakfast is delicious but was not included in the room but it's worth the extra $20. The rugs in the room seem a bit old but other than that the room is nice and clean, the bed is confortable and there's a lot of space. Service was good.
This hotel is absolutely beautiful! It is has beautiful gardens and landscape. It has an open air atmosphere, but also climate controlled sections as well. This is a luxury line hotel original to Mexico that came to Guatemala City about 20 years ago. The hotel has a very Spanish colonial feel, and the staff is very very professional and take care of you to ensure you have an excellent stay. From the bellhops to the reception staff, to the restaurant staff, everyone is very respectful. We highly recommend this and will stay here in the future. The price for what you get is a great value!
Our stay was very pleasant in the beautiful kept hotel, One thing i like to suggest is that reception staff should stop indicating to guests that they are lucky to get the last room available when they have difficulty finding a properly valid reservation;it is an awful excuse. I would also suggest the installation of some vending machines for those wanting more that what is offered at the restaurant or the room tray. There were some maintenance issues with shower heads but were corrected very quickly. I must mentioned the very excellent, professional and efficient service of Karin at the reception area who helped me solve a myriad of problems after my phone was lost in the hotel's lobby. Her friendliness and demeanor was very reassuring and helpful while dealing with plane reservations and schedules. We informed the manager in the restaurant of her good work. I hope the verbal feedback got to the right people.
From my first step through the door, to the impeccably clean room with marble bathroom and 20'+ high ceilings. We enjoyed the amazing buffet breakfast and the staff went above and beyond when they put together an adorable mini birthday cake complete with wishing me a happy birthday in chocolate on the plate...delivered with singing and clapping after breakfast! The feathered (?) pillowtops on the beds ensured that we had a delightful night rest. Gorgeous hotel grounds, and wonderful, polite and kind staff. Would absolutely come back next time we come to Guatemala City!
The hotel grounds are beautiful. The architecture reminds you of Antigua Guatemala and the gardens are splendid. The staff is friendly and the service was pretty good. However, the location is not very conveniente since you're far away from any point of interest within the City. Additionally, traffic leaving from the hotel is terrible. I would not stay there if I had to be on the move because it would only add a great level of stress to my stay.
First the positive points: nice service of regular staff and good breakfast. Negative points : front desk staff rude and dismissive (the only unwelcoming behavior I have encountered in Guatemala where people are polite and always nice and welcoming). Our suite number 319 was next to three other suite where extensive works were being carried out even and night and on Saturday and Sunday: lots of noise, dust and smell of paint. At check out several items were added to our bill and it took a lot of time to prove to the dismissive staff at front desk that these items were not consumed by us and we were two people and we were charged 3 breakfasts!!!!!
Spent four nights at this hotel. Our stay was very pleasant. The rooms are nice and large but could use a few updates. There appeared to be some mold in the shower/tub. The food in the restaurant was excellent. The staff was attentive. The shuttle driver, Oscar went above and beyond as we needed to press him into service one evening. The traffic in Guatemala City can be heavy. It seems to be unpredictable. Allow plenty of time to travel to and from the hotel especially during the evening rush hour.
