It’s a must miss. Should have stuck with the Westin. This hotel staff was awful, rude, and some of the worst I have encountered. Except, the shuttle driver to the airport was wonderful. He was the only redeeming characteristic about this hotel. Small rooms. Small beds. And I had a suite. No late check out. And I checked, and there were empty rooms. Uggghhh. Don’t stay here.
Nice hotel, well situated in a relatively calm and nice part near the hilly and green outskirts of the city. The website states 'minutes from La Aurora International Airport'... make that an hour or so (it's always rush hour in Guatemala City). My feelings about the hotel are quite ambiguous: we stayed there twice with an interval of a week or so. Overall this hotel is OK, but at our first stay too many details were not: bath tub clogged, hot water not adjustable, safe didn't work, problems with codification of door keys, very slow check out, for dinner French fries came 20 minutes after the main dish etc. Our second stay of one night was better. Perhaps we just had bad luck the first time?
We stayed two nights. Service was fantastic, beginning with the pick-up at Aurora Airport. Las Ventanas, the onsite restaurant, had very good service (service was a little slow, but this seems standard in Latin America). Our room was huge, with a couch and a table and chairs in a circular partition off of the main room. My only complaint was noise on Saturday night. There was a huge and very elegant wedding (must have cost the 100X the average annual income in Guatemala). The wedding party continued until 1:30 AM. Unfortunately, our room overlooked the banquet area, and stacking a pile of pillows over my head would not block the din. Party noise is a problem that may be encountered in any hotel that hosts evening events; this is one of the nuisances of traveling. This hotel is on a ridge above the city, and provides good views (from some rooms). We toured the city; there are other large hotels downtown, but I did not see anything appealing about their locations. If I go back to GC, I will stay at Vista Real again.
The Hotel Vista Real was the perfect spot to begin our Guatemalan adventure to Lake Atitlan. Oscar was our driver from the airport and he couldn’t have been more courteous and professional. The free shuttle is a great perk. The grounds are beautiful and quiet and the breakfast buffet is extensive (albeit a bit pricey).
A beautiful oasis in the middle of the city. Delicious food and a tropical ambiance. Rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was extremely conscientious and helpful to make our stay enjoyable. This unique Historic Hotel with modern Customer Service exceeded our expectations.
What ever happened to this hotel? It used to be one of the nicest in Guatemala City. Not only for its unique architecture and good food, but specially for the “high class” they were proud to deliver in every little detail. Regrettably, since my last few stays I have been witnessing a steady decline in customer service and quality control. A bad sign is the towels. You can tell whether a hotel pays attention to quality and guest experience by just looking at their towels. Vista Real’s are worn-out, looking, rather grayish, and smelling of chemicals. Certainly not fresh. Same problems with the replacement towels. The front-desk staff was not rude, but mostly indifferent. And the bed, oh the bed. It was so hard and uncomfortable I wondered if anyone from management had ever slept in their own beds. I was probably just unlucky of having assigned the torture room - or perhaps not because in my previous stay I had the same problem. Internet / Wi-Fi was slow, and inconsistent. Nowadays a first-class internet service is not an extra, but one of the most basic amenities in a hotel. Current management seems to be not nearly as obsessed with quality, friendliness and customer service excellence as this hotel used to be many years ago. This is what happens when financial people replaces real leadership.
Amazing hotel beautiful views spacious suits but distance from downtown is far and with Guaremala traffic it’s a problem But I was there fora wedding so it did not matter the distance cause even church was close I recommend this hotel for couples and even for family since my brother was there with his and they had a blast
We have been to other hotels in Guatemala but without a doubt Hotel Vista Real is the best colonial luxury hotel, and without doubt the food and attention are part of that very pleasant detail, the waiter Elmer made our experience even better with a great attention and always with a smile, and we will return again to stay. Thank you
The hotel is nice, breakfast is delicious but was not included in the room but it's worth the extra $20. The rugs in the room seem a bit old but other than that the room is nice and clean, the bed is confortable and there's a lot of space. Service was good.
This hotel is absolutely beautiful! It is has beautiful gardens and landscape. It has an open air atmosphere, but also climate controlled sections as well. This is a luxury line hotel original to Mexico that came to Guatemala City about 20 years ago. The hotel has a very Spanish colonial feel, and the staff is very very professional and take care of you to ensure you have an excellent stay. From the bellhops to the reception staff, to the restaurant staff, everyone is very respectful. We highly recommend this and will stay here in the future. The price for what you get is a great value!
