Rosedale Hotel and Suites Guangzhou3.5 out of 5.0

The Rosedale Hotel and Suites in Guangzhou conveniently located in Guangzhou and just a 15 minute taxi ride from Guangzhou East train station and a 45 minute taxi ride from the International airport. At the time of posting this it costs ¥35 for the taxi to and from the train station and ¥130 for the taxi to or from the airport. Do not use Taxi touts at either the train station or airport as you will pay significantly higher charges and could even be dangerous for you to do so e.g. Uninsured etc, The hotel itself is supposed to be a four star international rating. In my opinion it fails to reach this standard. However, breakfast was not that interesting and although there was a good selection of foods, the quality and service was lacking. Our room was on a none smoking floor yet we could immediately smell the stale stench of tobacco. The carpets throughout are in need of a good clean. They are badly worn and stained throughout the hotel. There is also that smell about the hotel corridors that lets your nose know the carpets need sanitizing. Our room was well equipped but alas no bottle opener. The mini bar is not stocked but you can order it to be stocked if you wish. Two bottles of drinking water are provided each day free of charge as are two sachets of instant coffee mix and two tea bags. The TV has a good selection of tv channels. The bathrooms were quite nice but only one toilet roll supplied. There was no shampoo of body wash gel or bath foam supplied at all. The lighting in the room was sub standard. Although plenty of lights, the bulbs are very low wattage and the room too gloomy and difficult to do any business work on the computer. Although we could get a wifi signal free of charge, it is not high speed as advertised and also more often than not you cannot upload or download anything anyway. This in my opinion is the number one failure in the hotel e.g. Extremely poor wifi provision. Although I would book a room again if I got an exceptional rate, I believe I would choose a different hotel on my next visit to Guangzhou.
Room was smoky which is due to along past of smoking being allowed in rooms. The room & facilities need to be upgraded. For Western customers you must have more than just Chinese tea available in the rooms, esp coffee. Room service was okay.. Better meal than the Resturant but also expensive. Everything is getting old. If you want return customers you need to start doing this asap. Reception staff need to practice more English as they only understood basic English & found it difficult to speak & in fact they need to becareful not to cause offence to customers by speaking Chinese as some of "us" understand alot but not confident to speak... but "Surprisingly" it was the older staff that spoke & understood more English. Resturant staff need to be more attentive... Since I was travelling & eating alone, the reception asked if I was sure I wanted the buffet & told the price.... I was then shown to a separate area & effectively dined alone. Also staff did not approach me at all, even though they knew my ability to understand chinese was very limited. The price was also very expensive, considering I could of when to Resturant's close by & eat better quality meal for half the price with better get service. The only really good point was the manager at the concierge... He was brilliant & his English was very.. Always explained everything well.
This is the first impression when you arrive at the Hotel.Smell like a new Hotel. It is difficult to find it in the beginning, because it is all new, so that the taxi drivers are poorly prepared. But with Chinese young enthusiasm, it's all going to be good. The reception staff are very friendly, although reception is very small for that amount of people. All the services I've been looking for me have made. They sent the package by a fast mail. I got the package, too. I left the suitcase for a few days.I will be back soon.
The hotel was located next to the Changgang station (exit C2) and I guess that is the only good point that I can talk about the hotel. The buffet breakfast was ok with little change in variety from day to day. The hotel definitely needed some reno. The room was a bit dim and the bath tub was leaky. I would suggest that they do away with the bath tub and convert it to a shower cubicle. But what really peeved me off were i) the hotel's wifi was not working (and yet the staff still had the cheek to blame my phone for the failure) and ii) for some unknown reason, they locked the fridge (which had only two bottles of evian mineral water) and i had to call the reception twice before they sent someone to unlock it.
I went to China this summer and visited few cities. The best among others is this hotel. Spacious room, clean, delicious and complete breakfast. Location wise also very near with wallmart. You can shop till you drop. But too bad the lighting in the room is very poor.
This hotels best days are way behind it. There were cockroaches in my room. The whole place smells of smoke. The gym is in a maze and opening hours are short. The lift waiting time in the morning can be anything up to 20 minutes so get a low floor room if you have any appointments you need to keep. Didn't have breakfast though can't imagine it would be worth waking up for. Only saving g grace is it is next to a subways station and there are Starbucks and other fast food downstairs. Avoid if possible.
It’s a 1 hr ride from Baiyun Airport to the Rosedale Hotel located in Haizhu District – in the south-center of Guangzhou City. Their rooms are spacious and the amenities are similar to what you'd expect in any other usual hotel. In our six breakfasts at the Rosedale, almost all of the food selections were the same. Fried rice, scrambled egg, boiled egg, stir fried noodles served with chili, some sort of glutinous cake, ma lai gao, steamed ham, milk ladled from a soup pot, rice rolls and rice noodles, as well as a congee station. There’s also a bread station, and an eggs station (sadly, they do not serve omelettes. They just serve sunny side up fried eggs). For beverages, they have grapefruit juice, kiwi juice, orange juice, coffee, water etc. For dessert, you can have original flavored yogurt, as well as fruits if you wish. Overall, breakfast is okay and better than your typical standard Chinese hotel. The location of this hotel is very convenient - Rosedale Hotel is situated on Changgang Station 昌崗站, where lines 2 and 8 meet. There’s a Walmart a few steps east, a Cafe de Coral, a pharmacy, a medical university, fastfood, dimsum stalls, a bakery and a teh tarik shop nearby. If you will choose to stay in this hotel, the convenient location should be your number 1 consideration.
The hotel is approx an hour from Baiyun airport. I was upgraded to a suite which has quite a Raffles feel about it. Nicely appointed. Only one entertainment channel iPod tv - showing mainly war type movies. Other than that, endless news repeats, mainly in Chinese. Nothing in the mini bar, Sonata restaurant only offers buffet. Sat in the bar for 20 minutes without service. Went to the bar to order. Didn't know an espresso martini. Ordered gin and tonic. Asked for nuts or crisps - nothing available. I think it's the first bar I have ever been in that doesn't offer these. I think I was suffering with "single woman, travelling solo" syndrome - you become invisible. Overall hotel is good but could sharpen up in some areas.
Hotel booking was made through agoda for a deluxe king room for a 7 nights stay. Check in was fast and we were immediately upgraded to an executive king non smoking room with 2 room keys promptly given upon request. Room size was just nice with enough space to move around despite having 2 large luggages. Available was tea/coffee making facilities, toiletries, 2 bottles of free mineral water daily, a fridge, safe box, tv, good free wifi and even an umbrella for rainy days but no ironing facilities. Unlike most new hotels which has just a glass wall and door separating the room and the bathroom, the hotel bathroom still has a solid wall and door to give you some privacy. Lighting was ok but maybe not so suitable for reading at night as all 6 lamps were using yellow bulbs. Breakfast is on the 5th floor with a good choice of both asian and western food. There are also plenty of eateries just behind the hotel which is open from morning till night. Location is strategic as the airport express bus stops just beside this hotel. Metro is just round the corner beside McD entering from Exit C2 at Changgang station for travel on line 2 & line 8. However, not much choice for shopping as nearby malls are average only. For Canton fair guest, this hotel provides free shuttle bus services 5 times daily starting at 8.30am to 9.30am with free mineral water and coffee provided. Trip to the fair takes about 40 min. Return trip starts from 4.45pm to 6.30pm. On the last day, only 2 trips are available at 8.30am and 9.30am returning at 11.30am and 12 noon. Please remember to note the bay number for your hotel bus for your return trip which should be available in t flyers given. You can also take the metro at Changgang station direct to Fazhou station 8 stops away without having to change lines and come out at exit B for access to Hall B. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at this hotel and will certainly recommend it to others.
Visited for the Canton Fair. Great location, just by metro station. I have stayed here before in the past. Hotel is in great position, but now dated and needs a refurbished. Breakfast was good and included but room was poor especially the bathroom. Please see pictures.
