I stayed at the Riu Palmeras with my girlfriend for a week and upon arrival was instantly met with a very friendly member of staff who offered us champagne whilst being checked in. Within 5 minutes we were checked in and our bags brought to our room. As with the rest of hotel the rooms are slightly dated, but they were also kept immaculately so this didn't bother us in the slightest. All public areas were kept spotless and the pool area cleaned every night / morning. The room also came with both aircon and a ceiling fan which we found made a big difference in circulating the air, along with a fridge that was very useful keeping drinks cool bought from the HiperDino 2 minutes away. The large safe in the room cost us 14Euros for the week which wasn't bad at all. At meal times breakfast was free seating with a wide range of hot and cold food to easily fill you all the way through until dinner. At dinner you were given a set table for the duration of your stay, something we both liked. It saved the frantic searching for a free table and allowed you to get to know your waiter personally. Again food was plentiful, excellent starters, a large range of meats and fish every day along with the usual pizza, chips, pasta. Plates were cleared immediately, and when using our hands for certain foods like king prawns, our waiter brought over a separate cloth to clean them with, a nice attention to detail. You can also book into the a la carte restaurant free of charge which i would definitely recommend. The food was superb and of a generous portion size. The pool area was well kept with sunbeds always being plentiful. You could collect fresh towels every day from the pool side along with a full size padded mat for the sunbed making it very relaxing around the pool. You can charge drinks at meal times, around the pool and in the evening to your room simply by signing the bill and adding your room number. I'm always sceptical of this but the bill was spot on at the end of the holiday. I think the biggest selling point has to be the staff, they were consistently friendly throughout the hotel and nothing was too much trouble. The staff on the front desk were especially good, solved any issues, always said good morning/evening when walking past and even cracked a few jokes at the appropriate times. Yes there might be a few higher end more modern hotels in the surrounding area, but for the money, location and overall experience i would definitely recommend this hotel.
I couldn’t say enough good things about this hotel, I enjoyed every minute of our stay. The staff were really lovely, friendly people and made sure that we didn’t want for anything. The hotel grounds were immaculate, lovely clean pool, and comfortable loungers. Located only 10 minutes from a beautiful beach, it is ideal. There are a few bars and a supermarket adjacent to the hotel which was handy. I was a little pessimistic about eating in the hotel as we didn’t have a great experience in another all inclusive but the food was great. There was always a huge choice at Breakfast and Dinner, I couldn’t fault the hotel at all. I would definitely stay again!
I came with my fiancé and her parents and we were pleasantly pleased with the hotel location and overall standard. Staff are all incredible friendly, food is above average with a large selection offering something for everyone. Large hotel and meal time can be busy but allocated a set table each night which I think is genius. Very little England but lots of Germans who can be a tad rude (general culture difference). Lots to do in and around the island. I highly recommend a sunset walk along the Maspalomas coastline. Mini golf up the road is an absolute must! Very enjoyable. Rooms in the hotel are standard and I guess need an update albeit satisfactory for price paid. No t+c facility in the room which on this occasion didn’t bother us. Great balcony overlooking the outdoor entertaining area making it easier to enjoy from the pleasure of your own balcony with a beer as drinks can start to add up when half board from the bar (most rooms come with a sea view) I’d recommend going as high as possible as palm trees can block the view from floors 1-4. Also worth saying that the rooms are well air conditioned with either the air con or fan albeit a little noisy. Pleasant trip in a 4* hotel but nothing more albeit great food. I’d come again as plenty to do but maybe pay a little more for a 5* hotel nearer Maspalomas. Thank you Riu Palmeras.
Have just returned from a week spent at the Riu Palmeras where we stayed in a garden suite. The hotel and pool were immaculately kept with daily maid service to the accommodation, Plenty of clean towels and bedding provided. The food was plentiful with various options to suit all tastes .We were allocated a table in the restaurant which was reserved for us for our whole duration of stay. Sunbeds around the pool area were always available no matter what time we chose to use them and there is a no reserve policy before 10.30am. Beach towels are available too. Please be aware that for those with walking difficulties the hotel is set on an elevated position to the beach so whilst only 10 minutes walk away, to get there involves a lot of steps! The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for you. A special thank you to Carmelo and Verena who went the extra mile to look after us. As per other reviews, this was a very nice place to stay.
A lovely hotel. Just what my husband and I wanted. Quiet but not too quiet , good comfy room, very well maintained, fab lagoon pool, no problem getting loungers, pool bar very good with fab lunches, buffet breakfast and dinner excellent. Getting the food always a pain with buffet but huge and tasty choice made it a food adventure every day. The staff are superb, nothing is too much trouble and they are very friendly and professsional. Two sittings for dinner, we didn’t know but are glad we got 8pm and not 6.30 so worth checking.car hire with Avis from reception was excellent. Only downside was the evening entertainment. Spanish people singing English words but not knowing the meaning just leads to gibberish which is a shame when they are obviously doing their best. We just avoided it by sitting elsewhere.Would def stay again as a great weeks rest and sunshine.
Stayed here for 4 nights as part of a tour group on a full board basis. An added bonus was water and wine with lunch & dinner. Well, if other Riu hotels have the staff and organisation of this Riu hotel then they are on to a winning combination. Filled in check in details before we arrived at the hotel........other hotel chains should do the same. Why charge for a safe though ? Our group was asked to sit in an allotted area for dinner but anywhere for breakfast and lunch. We found the staff in the restaurant to be lovely, smiling and friendly. Food was delicious, with lots of choice. They did clear away very quickly, we would have preferred a more leisurely dinner. There were 2 sittings, 18.00 & 20.00. To be honest we would have refused the 18.00 one. We did eat in the A La Carte restaurant one evening . We had to choose our dishes the day before. A very nice experience, food presentation was excellent as was the taste. I am surprised you had any of your large charger plates left on the table......we all wanted to take them home !!! We did sit by the pool a couple of times, getting towels was easy. Sunbeds were squashed together but we found a quiet corner. I did use the pool, very easy with the slope to walk into the water. Sangria here was yummy with lots of apple in it. This hotel has, to us, a slightly bygone feel to it. The decor seems dated but it doesn't look shabby. You feel as if you have stepped back in time. Our bedroom looked over the pool and lots of trees which was nice. Beds & pillows were comfy. Bathroom had a great shower.........but hated the shower curtain......The hairdryer needs a huge update too, it took ages to dry my short hair, the hose got really hot and made my hand sore. Ladies ......you may want to take your own hairdryer. I doubt that we will return to Gran Canaria, however we would look at a Riu Hotel as we often use TUI, who now feature them.
We had a lovely time at the Riu,we were there a week from 10th September. our room was on the 7th floor great views of the ocean and sand dunes. The room was cleaned every day by our lovely maid Lucia. All the staff at hotel very friendly and helpful. The beach was about 10 min away at a leisurely pace, but be aware there are steps to get down to the beach so if you have mobility problems maybe not be suitable for you. The food at the Riu was excellent, both my husband and i are vegetarian but we did not have problems breakfast or dinner because there was so much choice. Towards the end of our holiday my husband became ill and collapsed in the bathroom,Lucia and the reception staff were very helpful and called a doctor who arrived fairly quickly,he did end up in hospital for tests....glad to say he is on the mend now.A big thank you to all the staff and assistant manager who was very kind and checking on his well being in the morning and again in the evening Apart from this little hiccup we had a lovely stay and would definitely return.
Clean retro fashioned rooms with a splendid view on the fifth floor. Great banquet for breakfasts and dinner. Personnel is super friendly. A glass of champagne on arrival while your luggage is deliverd to your room.
I've just come back from a week here and I can honestly say that . From the very start to the last day everything was lovely, nothing was to much trouble the hotel is spotless , the food was lovely and the staff were very polite and welcoming . I have to say a huge thank you to the assistant manager who was great , Luciano is in the restaurant and our cleaning lady who were just the best ever .. would I go again !! Defiantly .. good for shops , bars , beach and just a relaxing holiday
Hotel is spotlessly clean and staff can't do enough for you. Food is lovely and loads of choice so even if your a fussy eater there will be something for you, the staff in the restaurant are fantastic, in particular Fonqui and Suzanna. Fonqui would make swans etc out of the napkins for my little girl every evening so we had one excited little girl going for our evening meal to see what was there for her. Pool area is again lovely and clean and plenty of loungers. The only bad point about the hotel was the entertainment as the regular singer was awful.
