So after reading reviews on here I was so sceptical about going to this hotel, most reviews were mixed so I went in with an open mind, and I was pleasantly surprised, I'll start with all the positive points and move on to the few negatives that I have. The hotel was by far the cleanest I've ever stayed in, the maids were so professional and were so polite, the pool area was moped every night and the sun beds were washed down too, the reception staff were extremely helpful,(we booked more excursions through them than we did out holiday rep) and spoke a verity of languages, the pool area was gorgeous and you were able to sit in the sunshine or the shade, the pool was huge, heated and clean, there was enough sun beds for everyone in the hotel. Although you do have to get there early to get a good spot, the food was amazing, I can't honestly say that in the 7 nights I ate there I didn't once have a bad meal. The breakfast was the same each morning but the dinner was different every night with a BBQ outside, the bar service was quick and the waiters were very friendly! The hotel is situated close to the Yumbo centre and the beach. My only negative points would be that the distance between the rooms and the reception were huge, it took us at least 10 minuets to walk from our rooms to the dining room, the alcohol was expensive in the hotel with cocktails ranging from around €6-€9 and for spirits and a mixer was €10. They didn't offer no water with dinner and the evening entertainment was pretty poor, however these were all small things compared to how gorgeous the hotel was and the brilliant time we had, I would honestly stay at the hotel again in a heart beat!
This hotel is beautiful and in the perfect location for the yumbo centre. It backs onto a busy-ish road but it doesn't cause a lot of noise or distraction except the occasional ambulance or cross driver. The rooms are large and the air conditioning is fabulous. The bathroom is quite small for 2 people but it is manageable! There is a hairdryer provided although I did not use this. There are plenty of towels which can be changed daily if required. The bedrooms are clean and spacious with lots of storage and lots of hangers which makes such a change! Reception are friendly and has a large WIFI area for free during your stay. The pool is quite small but is really pretty with plenty of sunbeds. Sadly these get taken really quickly by people putting towels on them, this really annoyed me, I cannot understand why staff don't remove the towels left at 8am and not collected at 1pm! Food was nice, plenty of variety, plates are cleared quickly and tables and restaurant are clean. The only issues with this hotel is dinner time arrangements. When we got to the hotel we were told our dinner was at 6.30pm, and that we would not have dinner on the last day of our stay?! On our first night for dinner we made up a plate of food and sat at a table outside, we were approached by a member of staff who said we couldn't sit at that table because it wasn't ours, we had a reserved table every night. We refused to move that night as we were eating but we were told we needed to seat elsewhere the following night. This happened to a few other guests, some people got quite abrupt service. I think this needs to be made clearer on arrival if it is a policy that is required although I cannot see the point of it. Service is brilliant, staff are so friendly! I will definitely be back
Just come back from a girls holiday in Gran Canaria staying at Hotel Riu Don Miguel, a very different holiday to what I'm used to but I must say I enjoyed it! The hotel itself is very nice, as we walked in we were surprised with how upper class it looked! The reception staff were friendly and helpful as we got our room keys and asked for a safe (€2 a day) we then took ourselves to our rooms, we had two twin rooms with a balcony over looking the pool which we were very pleased about as we emailed the hotel a week before requesting a pool view and to be close to each other, both requests were carry out! We were extremely pleased with the rooms, clean, spacious and had everything we needed, including a fringe for snacks and drinks and a hairdryer in the bathroom and good air con, only thing was that wifi does only work in reception and won't connect anywhere else and when it does it's very slow, we were also questioning if the beds were changed as there was a mark on the sheets which was there the whole week! Our first morning at the hotel we were unsure about whether we could save sun beds before we went down for breakfast (8-10), we soon found out that we were able to save a bed from 8:45 and the towels would then not be removed, there is a member of staff watching this so your towel will be removed if you leave it before this time! The pool side is peaceful apart from passing traffic, sun beds are comfortable and the pool is a good size, although is rather cold and balls or Lilos are not allowed! There is no poolside entertainment which is something I am not used to but was nice to relax without the noise of children due to it being an adult only hotel! We did not stay at the hotel in the evening to see any entertainment but I think it's pretty similar every night and aimed at older people! The food at the hotel is really really lovely something different every night apart from the salad and the pizza which is a regular, I am a fussy eater and was anxious as to weather I would like it but there was always something on offer I would eat, the only thing they could improve on is the fact all food isn't labelled well enough and therefore wasn't clear what the dish was, also check the chicken as a couple of times it wasn't always cooked 100%, but apart from that we couldn't complain, breakfast was also the same with lots of choice and all very nice! Playas del ingles itself is a lovely destination, Don Miguel hotel is close to everything you need, a supermarket around the corner, beach a 20 minute walk away and the yumbo centre where all main shop and bars are is about a 5 minute walk, all the bars in the yumbo centre are aimed at the gay community but very welcoming to all people, we watched a drag act and must say they are hilarious and well worth watching! There are some clubs about a 20 minute walk away but have heard these are rather pricey! Other things around are mini golf which is really fun, and the water park called aqualand which is around €25 and about 15 minute taxi drive from the hotel costing about €6! Overall an enjoyable holiday and would stay there again!
My husband and I regularly use Trip advisor reviews to decide if we are booking the hotel or not. This hotel exceeded our expectations as it did for all the other couples we spoke to as well. We only wanted a cheap holiday this year and decided to try this hotel but we were worried about what would the quality be like. Well seriously if you are hesitant at all in booking do not be ! It was better than some of the 4 and 5 star hotels we have stayed in for a lot more money. The hotel is immaculately clean, the food was really very good indeed and most importantly to me the staff and customer service were outstanding. Every member of staff would say hello and smile at you from gardeners , pool men, cleaners and so on. There were particular staff who stood out for us. Bruno in the restaurant was really lovely and genuine, Manuel in the bar kept everyone laughing and made you feel special and Jose in the bar was a true gentleman. I liked that Management had a strong presence in the hotel to oversee all is well, the Director a very beautiful and elegantly dressed lady who shows a genuine interest in whats going on in the hotel and that all is running well. I agree with previous comments that our only suggestion to improve this hotel even further is the nighttime entertainment. There was mostly a three piece group with 2 men and one woman. Her voice was beautiful and the men played instrumentally well but there singing was not great . The woman seems to lack a presence on stage and didn't look as if she was enjoying being there. Personally ourselves and the other couples we met felt she just needed to do the singing on her own which would maybe increase her confidence . A two piece group with a female singer were exceptional ! Her stage presence and voice were really powerful and she really got the guests engaged and enjoying themselves . A greater variety would be better e,g dancing, acrobats, magician e.t.c, I think they would get more guests who would want to stay in at night . We went out most nights and there are plenty of great bars and restaurants in the area. Book now I am confident you will enjoy !
Just returned from an amazing week in Gran Canaria, spent at Hotel Riu Don Miguel. The hotel's official rating is 3* and we struggled to believe it wasn't higher. We absolutely could not fault the place. The staff are friendly and cannot do enough for you. Keep an eye out for Bruno, the sweetest and funniest man and his happy mood is infectious. The whole hotel is impeccably clean, the food in the buffet restaurant is varied and delicious and Body's a la carte menu is sublime. Our room was spacious with good amenities, the pool and jacuzzi are great and we never struggled for a sun lounger. One day we even got one of the fancy beds which was a real bonus! Good entertainment both in the daytime and at night. Thank you to everyone at Hotel Riu Don Miguel for making our holiday perfect.
stayed at the Riu Don Miguel from 29th June till the 6th July 17. the hotel room are a bit small but very well cleaned. I had tow problem one lighting went in the bathroom and my TV was not working properly. I reported the fault in the morning and by the time I got back after lunch it had already been fixed. There is only one main restaurant and the food was quite nice a lot of variety. what was good is that you got to sit at the same table for the duration of your holiday, which was a good thing not having to look for a table. Staff were very friendly and went out of there way to make us feel comfortable. The only problem we encountered was the rudeness of the Germans people staying there giving us dirty looks and not saying thank if you held the lift doors open for them or asked them a question. Convenience store was right across the road and the beach was a nice 15 min walk away. They have a big shopping centre 5 minutes walk away that sold everything you need along with restaurants to eat in and nights clubs and Karaoke bars. Overall al nice stay and of course Gran Canarias is a nice place to visit. We are going back next year June
My Husband and I returned here as we both love this Hotel. This is my guilty pleasure, no kids! as a teacher it is bliss to sit, relax and have no kids running around the pool or dining area. Even the rooms are tranquil and calming with their lilac decor. The Hotel is located very close to the massive Yumbo centre so you can eat at a large choice of Restaurants and bars if the food becomes boring (which it will). The bus stop is close by that will take you to Maspolamas or Las Palmas. There is a Taxi rank across the road which is very handy, and you never have to wait. The pool is wonderful with the loungers fitted in the pool. I call these the reading chairs and I spent my days in and out of these chairs with my kindle. This hotel does not allow balls and lilo's in the pool. Do not waste your money buying them as you will be told if you put them in the pool. The pool chairs go quickly but you cannot reserve until 9 am. If you have a favourite chair go and sit on it until the pool guy allows you to leave the towel. Me and my husband tag teamed this! The manageress has looked after this hotel for 13 years and trust me you know when she is in the building. The hotel is run like a tight ship. Unfortunately on this visit I noticed on the two weekends she was off the Hotel staff were very lax. Soap dispensers in the bathroom empty, rubbish bins by pool overflowing, bar staff not attentive around the pool. Even staff arguing in the Breakfast room! For me the biggest let down of this hotel is the very poor quality entertainment. It is awful and inconsistent. We found ourselves going out most nights as the entertainment was so poor. They put on music during the day in the form of a singer or sax player. On the stage where it is empty. No one can hear to by the pool. Perviously there was no music which is fine, people are relaxing. Despite this I have just returned from an amazing holiday chilled and relaxed. One member of staff who works so hard and knows all the guests is Manuel. He is a fantastic guy who really cares about the Hotel and keeping everyone happy. I will be returning in March with my Mum. Tip: Take a travel kettle and a couple of cups, (The hotel will charge you 10 euros to hire one for a week) There is a supermarket opposite the hotel that sells fresh milk. You have an empty fridge in your room so can make tea and coffee.
Adult only hotel close to the main Gay area of the island. Close to the beaches but far enough inland to be near nice local restaurants and bars. Provides half board buffet style restaurant or you can book for al la carte restaurant if you book this. Nice fresh water pool with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas.
Before I complain, let me say the staff really tried hard to fix the problem. The hotel itself is cute and in a great location. Our room had a really nice view of the town and landscape and the restaurant has an awesome view Of the bridge. The room is very large and had nice furnishings and lots of windows but there were some Major issues. 1, the hotel is downtown and the amount of drunk people in the street below is insanely loud. The bathroom was very nice for how old the hotel was but the shower had so much pressure (usually something I don't complain about!) but it was so strong that I had to rig the shower head with hair ties and bottles to that the room wasn't completely soaked every time Either of us showered. And last, the air conditioning NEVER WORKED. We kept calling the desk and they would send someone upstairs to fix it but within an hour it would turn off and it was incredibly hot, So hot my birthday bouquet my spouse bought me died in less than 1 day. I couldn't even sleep comfortably it was so hot, and if you tried to open the windows you had the loud singing drunks.
Me and My boyfriend visited the hotel early June for 10 Nights. We were at first disappointed as we had a room on the ground floor which meant our room was completely shaded the view was minimal and overall not what I would have expected. We went back to the reception and asked to change rooms for a higher level room, we were told we could move in 3 days time which we did not mind but the morning reception staff were very accommodating. We would suggest emailing the hotel before arrival to ask for a higher level room. When we moved 3 days later we were not disappointed, they had moved us into a room on the 3rd floor with a pool view. This had the sun in the late afternoon which was perfect for us. The rooms are a good size in our first room we had two single beds joint together, and in the second room we had a double bed. Air con worked extremely well, rooms were kept cool. The food at the hotel was as you expect, standard Spanish buffet with a range of meats/fish with sides that changed regularly. Breakfast was the same everyday but this is what you would expect, they served everything you would want. The hotel itself is very clean and tidy. All areas are modern and up to a high standard. we did not watch any of the entertainment at the hotel we went out most nights to the beach or English bars. We were glad to find that there was not a rush for sunbeds in the morning, we often didn't get down to the pool area till around 12pm and there were still many sunbeds mainly around the Jacuzzi which I preferred. On our departure date we were very pleased to know that they had 2 courtesy rooms, which were very basic shower rooms but this meant we could enjoy our last day before catching our late flight. The Yumbo center is within close distance as well as the beach which is only a 10/15 minute walk. There is a bus stop just down the road from the hotel which is very easy to use, we went on two trips using the buses which were fully air conditioned. I would advise using the buses rather than taxis for trips etc as they are a lot cheaper. This is our second stay at Playa Del Ingles and it definitely did not disappoint second time around.
