Finally got the TA app and am able to post. We stayed at 5 Econolodges and 3 Quality inns on our vacation.Went to lethbridge Alberta for a wedding and made a vacation out of it by flying into Billings Mt and visiting Glacier np ( going to sun ) and the Canadian Rockies ( which are absolutely gorgeous) and winding down to Yellowstone. Choice had a stay 2 night get a $50 gift card which was our incentive, we generally stay at Choice properties and with the exorbitant prices in Lake Louise and Banff we drove down the trans Canadian highway rt 1 to Golden to save. I was nervous about this place after reading the reviews. It's too bad, the mountains are gorgeous and this place could be nice but I would never stay here again. The person never gave us credit as having stayed there and my wife had to fax our receipt to Choice( a nightmare on phone with poor English speaking reps), finally got it straightened out. I sat on the bed and the cheap bed frame collapsed. If I recall correctly old tube tv and just not clean. Air conditioning poor and just not well run. I think the young man lives down the street and was walking to open up office at 7 am. As stated the breakfast was absolutely worthless. At least there's Tim Hortons( I believe 2 of them) Funny thing is this and the Econolodge in Cranbrook( both British Columbia) were the 2 worst motels while the Econolodge in Hinton Alberta was the nicest I've ever stayed in.( I would say almost as nice as a Comfort Suites) This motel aside, the Icefields Parkway is the most beautiful drive I have ever taken and the glaciers of the Canadian Rockies are the most beautiful mountains I have ever been to. Just stay at a different motel if your in Golden.
Visited with my family in July booked two rooms, check in was smooth and the front desk guy was helpful, rooms were ok and has good sleep only draw back was the breakfast as it had just toast and coffee.
Only stairs to get to the upper level floors, so it's a bit inconvenient to drag your suitcases up and down stairs to get to the room. Room had a strange musty smell to it, air con didn't work, disappointing stay.
Filthy rooms, dreadful plastic breakfast, no hot water, smelt awful ...I could not open the heavy dirty curtains because there were no net curtains and everyone could look straight into the room I have never stayed in such an awful hotel.
On the positive note, the front desk staff are lovely, respectful and helpful. However, once we settled in after dinner, the only thing truly clean were the sheets. The bedspread was stained, floor in front of the vanity needed washing, the bathtub tho' clean to the eye, had black mold from one edge to the other. The next day I discovered garbage under the bed so no vacuuming was done. I have stayed in better hostels for a fraction of the cost. And we paid $160. The Greek restaurant next door which came highly recommended was neither laudatory nor cheap...$28. for souvlaki which in most greek places is around $16. Lovely folks in this town however they gouge the tourists from one end to the other moving through town.
I booked 2 nights at this motel for my cousin and her husband. The first night they arrived and noticed the room was not clean, there was garbage under the bed, the mattress was not clean and not comfortable, and they heard a lot of noises from other rooms. The second night they arrived back to the hotel pretty late (because they were babysitting for me!) and their key card didn't work in the door. When they went to the front there was no staff on the premises. They called the number that they called them on earlier in the day and no one answered. They did not sleep in the room because they could not get it!!! In the morning an employee reimbursed me for the night but then the next day they charged half of the night's total cost to my credit card without asking or notifying me or my cousin, saying the window was open, and maybe they had slept in the room! When I tried to call and email to request reimbursement, they ignored my requests. Overall, a horrible experience that I'm still dealing with almost two months later.
When we arrived it was such a mess up the stairs and all outside along the rooms. This am some idiot guest let their dog take a big dump just outside someone's door! Glad not mine or may have stepped in all tired and not paying attention. Another idiot guest left crap outside their room including a pizza box. Should not maintenance or housekeeping be on all this? Nowhere to sit where small breakfast options take place and no trays! The tv in my room is so tiny and quite distorted. For $100 a night after tax this is not that right choice to make!
We stayed one night. It was not the cleanest the bathroom in the corners were very dirty, the chairs were soiled. We stayed in the Econolodge in Cranbrook the night before where we got a breakfast in the restaurant no breakfast in Golden the cost in Golden was $29.00 more than Cranbrook. Will discourage anyone we know to stay away.
Don't come in with high expectations. Our room was boiling hot - seems like the previous occupant had no idea that the thermostat did not have an off position (broken) and could easily rotate to the maximum heat setting. They are lucky a fire did not occur! ! Staff friendly and stretched to their limit. Ice machine not working. Room cleanliness in corners not so good (see pics). Baseboards, strip heaters, bath exhaust fan and air conditioner need upgrading. Management appears a little reluctant to reinvest. Low cost and relatively clean. No ants.
I must agree with the other reviews in that this place is definitely in need of renovations and updating. lumpy, creaky mattresses, dirty carpets. For $143 we have had better accommodations. Can't sleep too well with an air conditioner about 3 feet from your pillow. Had to turn it off. Also the fact that we had requested a room with microwave and fridge but didn't get it . I must give credit to the person on duty that night as he took my pop and bottled water which I wanted cold for the next day and he put them in his fridge. However we had to wait until they opened up the next morning before we could retrieve them. I can't say anything about the breakfast as we were out of there before 7am having not slept very well and by the sound of the other reviews we were lucky. Thankfully, there was a Tim Hortons just before you leave town.
