Still in Bali as we write this but now left our stay at Mara River. Our little girl was sick almost as we arrived at the lodge and we had to spend most of our time going back and forward to the hospital, although we did enjoy breakfast with the lions and meerkats 😁 Just wanted to say the staff were amazing while we were there supporting us and doing what they could to help us. Our little girl Ruby became somewhat of a star while there and everyone asked about her. Cant praise the staff enough for the good wishes, smiles and professionalism you offered us. We'll be back again to see you to enjoy more with you next time. Andrew
We stayed at twiga mara river. I was scared from some of the reviews about food that we read but fear not, the room was amazing, the food was great and activities were all included in price and we never got bored. 2 nights stay i think is the ideal time to stay here. 5 star
At arrival lunch was better than expected, as was dinner if you eat a la carte. I’ve had only a small explore as I’m still here. The elephant show while accurate left my 4 year old daughter and myself crying, it’s a little graphic for young kids and distressing if your an animal lover. The park seems nice and clean and the animals seem happy but well trained to meet the needs of the high tourist run through the park. The rooms initially look good but they are VERY tired, we are in the 2 bedroom kids seem happy in their room, the lounge isn’t very comfy and the TV has the worst picture I’ve seen, and after dark when the kids go to bed what do you do and it can’t be set up for inroom dining as there is not dinning area just an uncomfortable couch, and the king room seems ok until dark. All 3 air cons don’t work well, the one in the kids room cools a little, the one in the lounge, the remote doesn’t work and the living area is unusable due to the stuffy heat. Might as well open the doors. And then the king room, well there is no fear of getting cold as it’s far from that with all doors shut and all night it sounds like I’m speeding down a freeway with my window down ever so slightly. So hear the animals at night..... not a chance. Then there is the bed if you could call it that. I like a firm bed but you might as well curl up on the tiled floor for a better night sleep. I’m sitting on the end of this torcher device as we speak willing myself to not have to spend another night here. Now I just need to convince the kids that we should leave as regardless of the animals the experience this accommodation is about a 2 star as I just came from a 3 star villa and it was so much more comfy and accommodating than this horrible room ever could be. So families please come to the park and see the animals and make memories with your families but do it as a day trip. This Mana River lodge is overpriced, uncomfortable and not worth the hassle of a massively sore back and neck with zero sleep. I definitely won’t be back or recommending it to friends.
Spent 2 nights at the Lodge with the family to end our Bali holiday. It was definitely a unique experiene to say the least. It was quite cool to be swimming in the pool and seeing zebra's and a rhino just over the fence! We stayed in the Tembo suite and it was a great fit for us. 3 good size rooms each with bathrooms and a very large lounge area. It was a fair distance from the hotel reception but you just called them and they sent the buggy for you. The food in the Tsavo restaurant was fine - not exceptional but it wasn't the worst! Being able to come & go as often as you liked into the Safari park was good and meant we weren't rushing around to see everything quickly. It's definitely the sort of place where you'd only need to spend a couple of nights - any longer and it would start to get repetitive.
If you are coming with kids, pay for the Kifaru room. This package comes with everything; 1 dinner, 1 night safari with BBQ dinner, elephant ride to breakfast every morning, entry to safari, 1 safari ride, 1 water park entry. Rooms and toilets are good. Not sure about other rooms, mine has an air con that ran loud and it can be quite a challenge if you are a light sleeper. I would have given one more star if not for the average food; breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overall, an enjoyable stay for everyone. It’s the first time we were close to lions and tigers. The elephant ride was interesting because it walked on dirt track and water.
The was excellent with a glass roof on the bathroom and a balcony overlooking the grassed area where the elephants take people for rides and the zebras, rhinos, gazelles etc roam free and a bucket of carrots is supplied in the room for feeding them. The Tsavo restaurant has glass walls so that the lions can come right up and look in and behind the bar they lie on rocks in the sun. The night safari is not to be missed. The zoo itself is clean and all the animals appear to be healthy and happy and have plenty of room. The marine park is well set up. Well worth a return visit. I had the 2 night package
Stayed for one night in a Twiga room (2nd floor) directly across from the white rhinos. The room decor was a tasteful mix of African and Balinese styles, although was maybe a little bit tired. Photos on the website are accurate but I was slightly disappointed that the closest the animals could get to the balcony was about 10-15m. There is a stream and vine-covered high fence separating accommodation from the savanna. From what I could tell, the majority of ground-level rooms would have no view at all so I would not recommend booking a lower level room. A bowl of carrots was provided which we enjoyed throwing out for the zebras and elephants. The only problem I had with the room, was the sliding doors to the balcony- they lock together but neither panel has a fixing point, so you could just slide both panels across the whole track. I didn’t worry so much about security as we used the room safe, it was more about wanting properly closed doors to keep bugs out. That being said, I was surprised by how few bugs there were but we opted to sleep in the mosquito net anyway. Our room was also directly in front of a stopping point for the elephant rides and safaris - I felt a bit awkward when I opened the bathroom blind to find a young family on elephant back right in front of the window (10m away). Lucky I wasn’t in the shower! Some guests might find this intrusive. We enjoyed the night safari and bbq dinner, pro tip try to be the last person on the truck so you are at the back! Buffet breakfast was also good, with both dinner and breakfast providing options for vegetarians or religious requirements. Throughout our stay I saw no evidence of animal mistreatment. I would stay here again although one night was enough for us, as there wasn’t much close by to the park (and we have no kids). Service was top quality, every staff member we came across was friendly and helpful, and we were happily greeted by everyone we passed.
Had a wonderful time during our stay. Price included the unlimited entrance to the safari and breakfast really worth it. Not many zoos will allow feeding or closed proximity to animals except this one, but of course come with a price for feeding .Not too many animals like other big zoo, but the ride to visit all the wild animals makes it convenient especially family with kids. The rest of the time will be watching educational shows involving animals and actors, which is better than those shows that need cruel training. Well, highlight of staying will be at balcony of room, you can see the zebras, rhino, elephant and of course , enjoying your breakfast at restaurant that’s next to few male lions . Really good experience for the kids.
My husband and I put this in our plans for our honeymoon and it was the WORST experience I’ve ever had. First off the animals don’t seem to be cared for properly and are in tight quarters the elephant treatment is hard to watch after just coming from a sanctuary. The feeding consisted of one thing of meat and u just see the tiger crawl up the tree and eat it once not organized. The owl was just out during the day? Some of the animals were unique which was interesting to see on the safari that is the only OK thing although the treatment kind of puts a plague on that. Anyhow it’s advertised that your living among animals but it was one giraffe in the center you had to walk all the way to the other side to see any more animals near the pool area where there are also massages but you hear kids in the pool during them not relaxing. (We had one because read later we were only refunded half our money of the honeymoon package so I said at least let us have the massage) Now the worst part there were MULTIPLE lizards in our room and I asked for one to be removed and then more came. Naturally we don’t want animals IN OUR ROOM. They told us that that just happens in nature. No not if you secure the rooms where multiple critters can’t get in. After this we tried to get a refund and were met with no no no we said we’d like to pay for the park and go home at this point we were barely there from 2-6 and at 6 we noticed all the critters in our room. They gave me back half of the money which I was completely not satisfied with I had to demand at least the spa services because I wasn’t getting my money back. HORRIBLE stay away !!!!! Not Bali experience don’t waste your precious limited days on vacation
And meerkats, elephants, 4 poster bed overlooking the animals, staff that couldn't be more helpful... you wake up to lions roaring and the giraffe right there.... who knew zebras liked carrots that much?? We worked out the cost of the safari and night safari, plus transfers and ended up just deciding to do a 2 night romance package ( free massage .. yes please!)... set menu meals and breakfast included... a infinity pool that overlooks the grasslands... as does the spa. Definitely unique, and the food at Tsavo is amazing. Glass topped shower and your own balcony and you find yourself in the Savannah. Went a little further and get the white tigers and meerkats and we left with amazing memories... hint... stand at the back of the cage in on the night safari and get animals to yourself
