Let me start by saying that this room is stunning!!!! I absolutely loved waking up to the view of our pool & the ocean. This is probably up there as one of my favourite hotel rooms I've stayed in in all of Bali (after at least 8 visits). The pool is shared but roped off in sections so no one could swim in front of our room. The room finishes are beautiful & the bath even has bath menu (where the staff can run a bath for you). As for the resort, the grounds are lovely & very well kept with gorgeous gardens which give a very tranquil feel. We had a few massages at the day spa which were near perfect & very relaxing. The restaurant food was great with plenty of options too! The reason I've only rated overall as 4 star not 5 is because of a few minor things including- - Check out time is 10am (most Bali hotels offer midday checkout) - Breakfast is not included. This should be a standard inclusion given the secluded location of the resort. We had to buy breakfast regardless. - The room had herbal tea bags but no standard ones such as English Breakfast so I had to keep asking for them. - I didn't like the refill idea of the big water bottles in the room, I know it's environment friendly but would prefer new recyclable bottles daily. - I dislike that the website excludes taxes until you click further along into the booking when it adds them. Makes it confusing price wise. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to either surf or completely relax at a secluded location. It was just what we needed as a couple on a kid free break. Will happily go back in the future & choose the beachfront pool suite again - it was amazing!!!
This is a wonderful hotel. Its location is unusual, away from the masses & mess of Kuta, Seminyak, & those better known (and somewhat ruined) areas. Komune is on the east coast. We loved the hotel & the area. First up - no shops close by, which we thought was a big plus. The prices of the rooms are not cheap, so that reduces the poorly behaved types that have ruined so much of Bali. The rooms are still relatively new, well maintained, & clean. We were in 208 which has a view (and sound) of the surf & a small pool (note that the pool is a long lap pool with rope borders, not a solo pool). There are family & cheaper rooms available too. The grounds are lovely & well maintained. There's a bar & restaurant next to the beach, which is great for drinks & food. The food is good quality, good price, & a range for all tastes, and hygienic. (It can be a bit slow in peak times.) We loved the staff as they exemplify the friendly Balinese approach to life, and they seem very well trained. Almost all of the staff are from the Keramas town, & the resort's owner has engaged himself in the community, unlike the generic chains elsewhere. There's yoga is twice a day & the instructors are great. Massages are great & a good price. Surfing is only for the advanced surfer. The waves are beautiful - clean, fast & huge (10 ft seemed normal when we where there last week) but they break on rocks, so if you're not highly skilled, don't do it. We saw several boards broken, & a few guys who's been smashed onto the rocks & badly scratched. There's a beach 15 minutes north that has smaller waves, no facilities but is also authentic called Cucukan. The beach itself is relatively clean for Bali, which has a chronic beach pollution problem (at Kuta when you surf you get covered in plastic) - at least this hotel cleans up each morning. They also have recycling and solar power, which I haven't seen elsewhere in Bali. If you find plastic bottles & other waste on the beach disturbing, Bali is not somewhere to go. If you really need to spend time shopping, it's about an hour in slow traffic to Ubud & maybe the same to the Kuta area. They're places you only need to go to once in your life... Be aware of: * it's somewhat isolated - can't walk to stores * take mosquito deterrent - you're in the tropics * take your own snacks & alcohol - there isn't a shop on site * it seemed 90% Australians, ie not very international * as usual in Bali, some of the drivers are quite pushy about getting you to go to places that give them kickbacks. If that happens tell the hotel. On our Friday night trip to the airport for a 10:35pm Jetstar flight, it took 45 mins to the toll gate then 15 mins to airport. Never trust a local's estimate of times as the traffic is horrendous & that trip might take 2 hours sometimes. We'd stay here again!
We spent 4 nights there recently and it was superb in every way From the reception staff to the bar and restaurant staff ,in fact every staff member we came in contact with was faultless Great accommodation, wonderful fresh healthy food ,great gym ,all in all 10 out of 10 Great for a complete chill out Thank you all
Having just returned for a week long stay in Kommune I would highly recommend to pretty much all types of travelers who are looking for a relaxing holiday. I went for the yoga and spa package so all food and fitness/yoga classes and an hour long spa session a day were included. Things I liked: - service from staff was amazing, from the restaurant and pool areas to the reception and cleaning staff to the spa staff. All were fantastic and friendly - yoga classes - the 'adults only' pool was a great space to relax - the rooms were clean and comfortable - the wifi worked well across the resort - beautiful gardens - activity day (I selected rafting) was great fun - as a solo traveler I had the opportunity to meet and converse with people easily enough, but also had the option to have my much needed alone time. Issues that came up : - I was disturbed by a very loud, very sexist group of surfer boys one night. Honestly I didn't feel the safest being next door to people who clearly had very low opinions of women. The staff were kind enough to move me the following day but might be better if they hadn't been placed there in the first place. - I stuck mostly to traditional foods, such as Gado Gado and Nasi Goreng, but for some reason I craved the seafood platter on my last night. This, I know, is always a mistake. I, fortunately, only got hit with severe symptoms after I returned home, but was feeling unwell as I left for the airport and the whole way on the flight home. I had had no other issues with the food on any of the other days, despite having severe food intolerances/ allergies. I guess if you're going to get Bali belly, it's better to get it after coming home right? But I did expect more from the chefs and the food at Kommune - the first few nights I was completely eaten alive by mozzies and other insects. I requested from reception that they provide coils and that made a world of difference Recommendations: - yoga classes in the late afternoon - insect coils to be kept in all rooms - try not to accommodate groups of surfers next to solo female travelers - stick to the traditional meals as much as possible
Stayed at Komune to attend a wedding. Great service right from the start at check in through to check out four days later. Very friendly staff at the front desk through to bar staff, ground / maintenance staff and cleaners; everyone had a friendly greeting everywhere we went. Meals at both restaurant facilities were great albeit a bit higher priced than found in other places in Bali - but then the service and presentation was great. One restaurant caters for the "healthy" crowd and serve beautiful smoothies and fruit drinks. The hotel is rather isolated but this is of no concern if you just want to lounge around the pool / beach and relax. We had pre-arranged a driver for tours so did not find the isolation a problem. The hotel facilitates arranging a driver but I presume this would be a bit dearer that pre-organising it your self. The room was a bit smaller than envisaged but more than adequate, clean and well maintained. A bit noisy at times as one could hear from adjoining rooms occasionally (TV, loud conversations, shower going, etc) but not too badly. If I visited again I would consider upgrading to a beach front view room. Great place for a relaxing break. Appeared very popular with surfers and the yoga crowd. I would certainly stay again.
We came here on a Pilates retreat. I recommend upgrade to beach view. Lovely rooms overlooking beach. Spacious & comfortable. Everyone who works here is friendly, attentive & professional. Food is good. There is a private adults pool which is warm & has lots day beds. Also perfect spot if it is rainy - it rains in Bali. This is a no alcohol pool area. Beach cafe overlooks the surf & is perfect spot. The Hub is great for breakfast & lunch. Fast wifi in every room & Beach Cafe 2 separate yoga rooms - one overlooks the beach! Apart from yoga they are also wedding receptions. We witnessed a wedding and the Komune Resort team were wonderful as they responded to wind, potential rain & then the perfect evening for a wedding! I recommend this resort
Such a fun way to chill on the beach! Surfers in the ocean, DJ at the pool, & great drinks! The vibe is more relaxed than party, which we loved!! Lots of fun! Oh and the sand is black, it's beautiful!!
Loved this place! We stayed for 4 nights and loved every minute. You can relax by the pool while watching the surf. The food was great so we didn't even need to leave the resort. The gym was one of the best I've seen in Bali and they also have great yoga classes! Not a great beach for swimming because of the reef but there was plenty to do at the resort. Would love to come back one day. Oh and the staff were sensational!
What a lovely outlook over surfers paradise. This hotel is situated in the Keramas region and is very isolated. The grounds are fantastic, with a great Health Hub that serves yummy fresh juices to start your day. The pool areas are lovely and we had no trouble getting pool lounges at any time of day. The beach club food is of great quality and staff throughout the hotel were only too willing to help. Food and drinks are quite expensive for Bali standards though. If shopping is your thing then forget it unless you are prepared to organise a driver for the day. There are no taxis out the front but drivers are available in the parking area or can be organised by hotel. Is only about 20 minutes to Sanur and 45 minutes to UBUD. There is a tiny Warung just outside the entrance which is a great spot for a cheap beer or two. Rooms are very dark with poor lighting, they echo from other rooms and the toilet which can be a little embarrassing. The bed was very uncomfortable, 2 singles pushed together with a rather large lump in the middle, however they are clean and very well serviced. The hotel seems to be very popular with the 'moneys no issue' families of young grommets, surfing dads and yummy mummies, so if this is you, then this is the hotel for you.
Just came back from a yoga retreat at the Hotel Komune. Was optimistic about the resort given the numerous positive recommendations but severely disappointed in the service deliverables. Great beachfront and pool, healthy food menu, and beautiful location, but too many issues with service, etc. Problems were as follows: 1) Bad logistics in terms of airport pickup 2) Numerous mistakes on food ordering 3) Poor and incomplete room cleaning, room small and in disrepair in many places 4) Yoga equipment (mats, etc) in need of replacement 5) Yoga room repeatedly not ready for our classes in time 6) Woke up by dogs barking at night on property 7) Serious mosquito problem 8) Intermittent WIFI service All in all, what could have been a fantastic stay was tainted and overshadowed by the above shortcomings. Don't know how they get a 4-star rating, maybe surfers have lower standards and only care about the waves (it does have a tremendous beach with awesome waves).
