I stayed at the Grand Gozo Hotel in Malta from May 1–6, 2025, and encountered a severe health and safety hazard. My friend and I detected dangerously high carbon monoxide (CO) levels—over 150 ppm—in multiple rooms (457 and 464), for we brought our own CO detector. These levels are well above internationally recognized safety limits and posed a serious risk to our health.
Despite reporting this immediately, hotel management failed to take meaningful action. We were moved to another room without a proper inspection or explanation, and our concerns were dismissed. Management also refused a refund for the unsafe room and provided no updates or resolution.
I wanted a quiet few days in Gozo - I didn't have a car so picked this hotel for convenience to ferries and buses. I opted for a room with a terrace/sun loungers. I had a really large room on 8th floor, with spectacular views over the harbour, great air conditioning, huge comfortable bed. We also had a large round bath in the room which I wasn't expecting. The infinity pool was beautiful, stunning views and jacuzzi area. Staff were all lovely - we didn't eat at the hotel so cannot comment on that. Would highly recommend this hotel especially if you book a room with terrace!
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It seems there is still quite a bit of construction or renovation happening so we won't judge them on that. We had 1 or two small mishaps in the room but the staff were super fast to correct it. Incredible views! The food was really good. The bar and service staff were amazing and helpful! The AC worked and room was huge! All in all we were very happy.
The one main suggestion i would have, is to maybe install a shelf somewhere for shower gel etc in the shower itself. It's not nice to keep things on the floor of the shower. ;) otherwise, a huge thank you to everyone here!
I have never given a hotel a bad review before but the Grand is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in and I would tell anyone to avoid- it ruined our trip to Gozo.
The hotel may have been nice 20 years ago but is now in desperate need of renovation. Our room stunk of mould and damp and when we complained with reception were told it was because it was a basic room! Nothing was clean from the carpets to the curtains. The bins in the outside areas weren’t changed leading to an infestation of wasps around the pool. All communal areas were dingy and dirty.
Breakfast was poor, nothing was very fresh and mostly we avoided it.
The reception staff weren’t helpful and the manager was exceptionally rude. The other hotel staff were friendly and tried their best despite the state of the hotel.
The “fitness room” had a couple of very old pieces of equipment, no air con or windows that could open and no water machine. The indoor pool was closed permanently.
The only plus is the view which is beautiful. The other guests seemed to share a similar view and we bonded over how grim the hotel was!
Avoid it and spend your holiday elsewhere

AC issues
The hotel is in a great location and reasonably priced. The breakfast was great. Unfortunately our AC was not working in the room and they had to send someone to help fix it 4 times, until it was finally fixed, late on the 2nd night of our stay. They did not try to make up for the inconvenience in any way.
I had a lovely relaxing stay for a 5 day birthday treat. The level nine restaurant was superb! I got totally spoilt for my birthday . The staff at this hotel are so amazing , i will definitely go back with my partner next time . 😊
Lovely place , but the dead weeds in the planter box on the terrace was ordinary.

Super location close to ferry services to Malta, bus transport, lovely swimming pool area and jacuzzis with excellent views of the harbour, super restaurants and above all very helpful staff not forgetting the Elemis Spa.
Lovely stay at the Grand Hotel. The rooms could do with a refresh however. We had no specific issues. Food was lovely, staff attentive and helpful. Breakfast had good variety. Pool was lovely. Getting into and out of the underground parking was a mission as it was so steep!
The pool was really good with great views and not too busy, lots of sun loungers available.

Beautiful sea view, huge room and housekeeping excellent. Patio doors open (on both our rooms) if you jiggle them when locked, pool lovely but strange artificial grass round it gets boiling hot and coming up in places. No cleaning round the pool area during the day so bins overflowing each day by afternoon and lots of the hotel looks unfinished including the car pro which had a digger excavating downstairs and if you looked over the edge of the pool lots of half built cement and structures. Night staff excellent and really helpful, daytime receptionists leave the desk a lot and you feel quite bothersome if you ask for things. Overall the hotel was lovely and did what we needed but definitely areas for improvement! It’s 4 star but communal areas let it down.
We were upgraded to a superior room and enjoyed our stay. Excellent view from the hotel and our private balcony.
The pool area has been upgraded since last year- much larger pool and area to sit and relax. A good breakfast - hot and cold items. Good options at the bar area with an outside area to sit. Parking underneath the hotel. Two levels. Quite difficult garage. Good WiFi and TV with some English channels. Bathroom with a lovely bath. A lovely place to spend a few days.
There is so many nice places to stay im gozo the only nice thing about hotel was the views staff are rude cleaneres got red ha.ded stealing money fro. Our room we cbecked out 2 out 2 days earlier dont waste your pennines
You also need a carcaughg red ha
We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand. Definitely worth going for the Superior room with sea view- the room was massive and the views amazing. Pool area is lovely and there was always plenty of room. Good and drink reasonable and good service at the pool too- would recommend this hotel. Great base to explore lovely Gozo,
What a surprise we had upon arrival, the service , outstanding, room also outstanding as was the location. Steep climb to get around which we did mind. Pay the extra for view, if you want a sun lounger get in early. I loved the pool, it is small for the size of the hotel, I suspect in high season will get very packed.
Love this hotel. View spectacular. The oldest part of the hotel needs a little tlc especially the plumbing (shower pressure not good). Not for people with mobility problems as it’s a steep walk up to the hotel and buses to/from. However taxis/uber/bolt cars readily available But it remains our favourite hotel in Gozo.
Lovely room overlooking the harbour BUT heavy building work noise outside the hotel in the harbour and in the actual hotel on top floor!! They are building new rooms. Woke us up at 7.30 am which is totally unacceptable… the pool was excellent and the breakfast was very poor… worst breakfast we’ve ever had!!! Would not recommend until building work is finished. Really disappointed!!
