Without a doubt, it is the smiling and pleasant staff at The Melia Hotel who make it an enjoyable place to stay. The warm welcome, and friendliness and helpfulness of every member of staff are the features which raise the rating of this hotel. There is nothing outstanding about the appearance or ambience of the hotel which is bland and could be situated in any city in the world, but the people working there make it special. I really appreciated their patience with my Italian! Particular praise for Andrea, the concierge, who genuinely wanted us to get the most out of staying in the hotel and in Genova.
We had a wonderfull stay in occasion of a special event. We got therefor for free an upgrade to two nicer rooms. On sunday we found a cooled bottle of champagne and fresh strawberries on a layer of chocolat to celebrate. Soooo nice and special!!! The hotel is very nice and clean, has spacious rooms, a Spa and gym and a super breakfast and is located on a nice and quiet cityquarter. The employees of the hotel are very polite and helpful! Last but not least: you find taxis in front of the hotel, but can walk in 10 minutes to the citycenter or to the seaside.
I travel often for business to Genoa and I always feel like at Home at the Melia. Excellent Staff, very good restaurant, a 5 stars boutique Hotel in a convenient location with a very good price/quality balance
Our first time in Genova, this was an excellent choice. Modern, smart hotel situated away from the bustle of the (sometimes edgy) centre in a very nice residential area. About 15 minutes walk from the centre, maybe a bit longer down to the port, but nonetheless ideal for peace and quiet after the hectic bustle of the main sites, historic medieval streets and port area. 12 euros from the rail station by taxi. Note that it is set on a hill: that's why there are public lifts for those who don't do the many steps. But the exercise was sometimes welcome after the Genoese food! Room we had was excellent: completely silent at night, with nice linen, good en suite, and generally high end standards. Excellent wifi to quickly download stuff. Didn't use the mobile device provided, so can't comment on that. Housekeeping standards during our 3 night stay were excellent. Buffet breakfast was excellent as well - didn't try the hot English stuff (why would one with so much else Italian?!) but the meats, cheeses and cakes (especially the cakes!) were really good. OK coffee, good juices. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel, so can't comment on that. Nor did we get round to using the spa. What we did find is staff wanting to help, whether about the City, local restaurants or anything else. It all was a really good experience, and would defiantly stay again as and when in Genoa.
We were travelling with a group guided by a Collette tour manager. Our accommodations at this hotel were five star. We ate one meal in the hotel's restaurant. Service and the food were both excellent.
I often use the Melia chain and have stayed in several of their 5 star hotels .I have not given this hotel a maximum rating as in some areas, it fell short of 5 star standards. Location is very good with a 15 minute walk to the centre and restaurants within close walking distance. Hotel space felt a little cramped - our junior suite with balcony was a room not a suite, albeit with a very large corner balcony. 1 sink not double sinks in the bathroom and as previous reviewers have said, shower water temperature varied. Breakfast was good but I have experienced better choice and also the temperature of the hot food could be lukewarm. Temperature of water in teapot and coffeepots at breakfast not always ideal. The concierge had days off during our 3 night stay and we were surprised that he had no stand-in. All the staff were friendly and efficient but they did not have the full knowledge that the concierge had when we asked specific questions.. Our room safe was not working on arrival and could not be repaired immediately but it was repaired as promised the following day. We arrived in the evening and we ate dinner the first night in the hotel restaurant - we were happy with the choice, quality and ambience. So, in conclusion, while enjoying our stay and whilst we would happily stay again, this was not as good as comparable Melia 5 star hotels such as Bilbao.
Glad we chose this hotel. Better than other Melia's we have stayed in. The free mobile phone that comes with the room is a good idea. Pool is small but OK for a quick dip and it has a steam room. The supreme room was very spacious. Very well insulated against noise. The breakfast was OK but could be much better. Its 10 mins walk into the main part of Genoa.
This is a very good hotel. The room was large, clean and well equipped, as was the bathroom. Service was generally friendly and excellent. Book direct through the hotel and receive a 15 Euro voucher for the bar, which buys you two beers (or one G&T). They will price match booking web sites so it's worth the effort. The location is excellent, being a short walk to the old town and not far from most of the main Genoa sites. There is a Rey cool local bar across the road, (get in early as locals fill it and there are very few tourists there). Breakfast is fine, wifi was good. Would definitely stay there when next in Genoa.
This is an ideal location from which to explore Genoa on foot: it is a short walk to the main sites of this compact city, which we fell in love with; we will definitely be back. The rooms are well-appointed, with all the amenities one would wish for, and we had an exceptionally good bathroom. The provision of an adapted smart phone is superb: whilst we did not use the free phone calls, the map functions were invaluable whilst touring the city. The hotel staff were consistently friendly, efficient and responsive, and dealt well with the visiting Serie A football team, which arrived during our stay. Whilst we did not eat in the hotel in the evenings, breakfast provides a good variety and quality of food. There is a convivial bar with local atmosphere just across the road, where it is lovely to sit outside.
Super central location away from the main roads meant we were near everything we needed. The hotel staff were lovely and happy to supply us with a map and point out all the recommendations. Three things that made this hotel worth extending our stay (twice!) for: 1) the breakfast buffet is AMAZING! Everything you could possibly want is there, its all fresh, consistently replenished and great quality. This was one of only 2 (of 6) hotels on the Ligurian coast we stayed at that served freshly pressed orange juice which just shows that most other hotels prefer to cut corners (crazy as orange trees are everywhere here!). 2) The spa and gym are free, not crowded AT ALL and divine. On our first night we arrived just as it was closing but as (at this stage) it was our only night, the spa keeper kept it open for an extra 30 min for us to enjoy. 3) The free android phone that comes with the room allows you free international and local calls, free unlimited internet and recommendations to restaurants and things to do. We went to a number of the restaurants recommended and they were bar far the best in Genoa that we have experienced! As this was the first hotel we stayed in for our trip, this little device was invaluable as we figured out how transport etc worked in Genoa. I would definitely recommend this hotel
