We stayed in the captain buckaneer with king bed and bunk beds. We always tear the room apart to check for bed bugs before we get settled in. My husband lifted the bunk beds up to check and gummy bears were stuck to the matress's and food was under them. U would have to lift the mattress up to change the sheets so clearly they are not changing sheets everyday. Was very hard to sleep at night kids running up and down the halls. The breakfast was very disappointing, not edible. If you want a good meal you need to leave the hotel. The water park was just as dirty. Giant hair balls everywhere just laying around. A child pooped in the kiddie pool and the staff taped it off long enough to scoop it out with net but did not add any other cleaner in it. The chlorine level was so high our eyes were burning, my husband and I had to take turns leaving because we were so miserable. The lifeguards were a joke, just teenagers walking around not supervising. We had to follow our children from place to place to make sure they were safe. We made our children take a shower at the water park after swimming to wash the chlorine off, as soon as we left the waterpark my kids were constantly scratching and skin was chaped and red from the chlorine. 2 days later there skin is still itchy and chaped, My 11 year old and 8 year old have asked that we never take them back , I feel like that is pretty bad for kids to not want to go back. Do not waste your time going to big splash water park or hotel save your money and go somewhere else. We will not be returning. Could be a very nice place to visit , sad that they do not care about the bad reviews on here to fix any of them.
Our family (16+ All told) made reservations for 4 rooms and one adventure suite as part of out Polar Express train trip. In all, the staff of the hotel did a superb job at making us feel welcome and tending to our long list of needs. The check in line was endless but Gary, our desk attendant, was calm, very organized and methodical, and very patient in checking us all in. Comparable to the process at Disney World. I’ve read many of the critical reviews, but come on folks, this was an adventure at a HUGE hotel/resort with hundreds of high energy children, all of whom had endless requests and demands, and yet the entire staff patiently and peacefully dealt with it all with a smile on their faces. The Big Splash water park was all that we anticipated and we felt safe with our 9 children aged 3 months to 16 years old. I will happily return with our family next year and will recommend the resort to anyone without reservation. One word of advice: If you’re looking for a five star Michelin resort for a peaceful weekend in luxury, go somewhere else! However, if you’re looking to entertain your family with a genuine adventure with friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds, and decent food, then come here! You won’t regret it.
Arrived and first impression was poor. The parking lot which has the original first coat of pavement on it is rough and in disrepair. It has NEVER been finished and this hotel has been around many years. The building has rust spots coming down the wall out of the window heat/cool units and trash/cigarette butts all over entry area. Check in was painless. We got to our room and the wristbands didn't work well. We eventually figured out how to hold our hand just right to open the door. The phone was broke - they never came to fix. Wi-Fi is there but zero internet speed and constant loss of connection. Heater in room kept turning on and off and was SO loud! It was old of course. Carpet was filthy! My daughter commented how smelly it was. Lights by the bed didn't work. There is a place for a fridge in a cabinet but NO fridge. The water stopper on the sink was broke. Had to stick a bar of soap in the stopper so the water would drain. Otherwise you have to hold up the stopper in the dirty sink to get the water to drain. The shower and toilet area was nice and clean. Quiet hours are NOT enforced. Both nights until almost midnight kids were running up and down the hallway. I had to go out the first night and find the parents. Walls are PAPER THIN! you. hear. everything! Breakfast situation is a JOKE. Just leave the hotel for breakfast. You could spend an hour in line to get a table unless you get there 30 min before the restaurant opens at 8am. People eat sooner than 8am!!!!! OPEN AT 6!!! Food is mediocre at best. The waterpark was fun but you can tell it's not kept up well. So many broken sprayers and such. The concrete is rough is many places. My son scratched his foot just by walking. I saw many bloody kids from the concrete in certain spots.
While Big Splash isn't necessarily a 5 star resort, it is definitely deserving of 5 stars. The resort was clean and in a very convenient location. We stayed for the weekend and had 2 rooms. The only thing that I could potentially see as an issue is the noise. There are kids EVERYWHERE. If you don't have children, don't stay here. It seemed as if most people were traveling with others so the children would run from one room to another. We went to bed around 10pm each night and had no issues sleeping through it(if it was still happening). The beds were comfortablea and the rooms felt nice, temperature wise. We had free breakfast both days. This is really the only thing we had a problem with. The food was warm and plentiful, but we did have hair on 4 of the 5 plates we had. The hair came from within the food as the plates were clean upon grabbing them. It was free and not a huge deal so we just grabbed new food. The water park was nice and the water was warm. My kids loved it in there! We are Disney lovers and while I know this isn't a Disney resort, we have high expectations from staying on Disney property so often. I would totally recommend this place to others. We had a wondeful time and will be back again!
We stayed with our three year old for a family weekend. The water park was fantastic and and the free breakfast was a great value. We had dinner at the Boatyard and it was pretty decent. Our room was pretty nice and the bunk beds were fun for our son. The tv remote did not work and one light in the room was not working, but bed was comfy and room was clean. We loved the room key being on the wrist bands. Very handy! Would love to come back.
Staff is externally wonderful here at this very friendly hotel. Payton is the best hoastest ever! Nice simple clean rooms but the wifi leaves something to be desired. Great info water park to keep your family busy. The lifeguards are strict about keeping floates on kids under a certain height and watch children well! This is so great because you know they are safe and watched after if something happens. Had pizza from waterpark grill while there and it's was delicious and well priced. I really loved that the wristbands had the room key in them so you didn't have multiple items to keep up with.
My boys enjoyed themselves and I did too. The room was clean, the bed was so comfortable I just wanted to sleep all day!!The pool was clean, the restrooms were clean. The lifeguards were attentive and made sure the unattended children were following rules. The food was good and not too bad for the price. The only downside was no refrigerator in the room for the snacks we brought along. Will most definitely make this a once a month outing.
Nice place but more suited for younger children not teenagers nice clean room breakfast was included with the room buffet no bacon on the buffet disappointing other wise it was not bad. Gift shop was small.
On our way home from a trip out west, we stopped at this waterpark resort hotel overnight to cap off a fun weekend with our grandboys, ages 4 and 6. And they loved everything about the waterpark. After spending close to two hours playing there, they were still hiding out from grandma as she tried to round them up, the boys running up the stairs for one more trip down the waterslide. They enjoyed the arcade as well. Our younger grandson chose a plastic bug with his arcade winnings and we stuffed it into his bag so his parents would get a surprise unpacking when we delivered the boys both home. However, in our desire to leave and hit the road the following morning we did not do our usual thorough room check and accidentally left behind our younger grandson's baby blanket which he has slept with since birth. Almost 100 miles down the road, grandma realized her mistake and we called the hotel. They were able to secure the blanket and later mailed it to us, for which we gladly agreed to be charged an additional $10. Our grandson was so happy to retrieve his blankie. Though the room was modest and we missed not having at least a small refrigerator, I can't complain about the cost as we pre-paid $139 for a room special that included breakfast and water passes. The buffet breakfast was an upgrade from the usual scrambled eggs, breakfast meat and waffles we usually see. The water park was a little more adventurous too from the last hotel water park they'd stayed at. So it was a four-star hotel that gets extra credit for rescuing the blanket.
Everyone was very friendly and we had a ton of fun in the water park!! The service at the front desk and restaurant were great. We were surprised by the included hot breakfast buffet style, we were expecting a couple of muffins and waffles. Very happy with our stay and would definitely recommend!!!
