We stayed 2 night here with our 10 year old and her 12 year old friend this past weekend. We were VERY impressed. I'm surprised this hotel does not have a higher overall rating. While it certainly is not the Waldorf Astoria, all things considered earn a 4.5 rating from us. While we were not impressed with the food, the overall facility is PERFECT for both kids and adults to unwind. 2 full days at the indoor water park and the kids didn't want to leave. We had to drag them away periodically to eat. It has long hours and the even a game room with plenty of activities. We were amazed that the young staff had smiles on their faces all day. My husband even commented to the young female attendant (who was exchanging tickets for prizes in the game room) that she must have the patients of a SAINT! LOL I read other reviews that said they allow too many people in the water park, but maybe that is just during certain peak times, such as spring break. We easily found lounge chairs each day. There are areas for babies, smaller kids and big kids/adults as well. For the adults, the main bar is cozy and the bar tender, George, knew so much about the local area. On his advice we went to other attractions in town and felt like we had an 'in'. He was AWESOME!!! PERFECT for the purpose!
If your looking for somewhere to spend the day with your family, this is it. It definitely is for the younger teens, 14 or so and younger. If youe kids are older I would not suggest this place. The food is ok too. Drinks are a little expensive. It would be nice to be able to purchase a family type plan with park entry, food and drinks on a discounted deal. We traveled with 8 people. The room was nice. A little outdated to my liking. However, we would come back again.
Had a getaway with the family, 3 rooms all were clean, but the furniture showed some wear and tear.our room was supposed to have a mini fridge, but did not. called the desk and they brought one up (had medicine that needed refrigeration) The water park is very nice and clean. the breakfast is great, full buffet style in the restaurant and severs to get anything else you need. all included in the room. we had 14 in our party, with a two night stay and we all enjoyed the time there.
Had a weekend package that included two nights for four, waterpark entrance, breakfast, game room tokens and tickets for mini golf it laser tag. We arrived early and there was no hassle about earlycheckin. The waterpark was fun for all. Had a nice lazy river that I enjoyed and a nice hot tub. My grandsons had a good time. The breakfast that was included was a buffet and was awesome!! Scrambled eggs French toast, pancakes sausage potatoes toast hot and cold cereal fresh fruit orange juice milk coffee and tea. Did not expect this and was impressed. All had a great time and we are planning another visit in the future.
Went Mother's day weekend with my daughter and grandkids ages 8&9. They had a blast! The hotel room was clean and roomy. We stayed in the pirates fortress which had 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths plus bunk beds. It is located on the second floor as is the water park, so it was quite convenient. The included breakfast was really good too!
Keep your expectations low and you'll be fine. It seemed to be a bit overpriced for what you get. We stayed here for two nights at the end of March. We got the room with the bunk beds, which the kids loved. Our king size bed did not have a fitted sheet. It had a flat sheet that barely covered the mattress. The free hot breakfast is not very good and you need to get there early to get a table. My kids eat cereal so that was perfect for them. If you want a hearty breakfast that tastes good, go to the Denny's in town. The water park was small and was really busy in the morning, and like some of the reviews here have said it was less crowded in the evening. In the morning the water was cold. In the evening the water was warmer, but they had fans going and my 3 year old was freezing. They must have a high concentration of chlorine in their water because my 5 year old who spent the most time in the water ended up with a rash. We've been to other water parks and this has never happened. Both kids also got scrapes and cuts on their knees and feet while we were at the water park. We wanted to try this out and we have. Not planning on returning.
The facility was clean considering all the people visiting that day. Extreme amount of chlorine in the water made it hard to be comfortable but again given all the people I know it was necessary. The staff in the galley was rude and unfriendly when ordering food. The Arcade had more out of order signs than working games.
Horrible! For the price, I was expecting much better. Facility was so crowded, couldn't find a place to sit, wall to wall tubes on the river, dirty... no fridge or microwave in room...there was a place for them but not there. Asked for a fan, was told it would be delivered to room, about 4 hours later was told they didn't have any...after I called them back! No sheets for pullout sofa, called and requested them, an hour later called back and said we had two young kids who needed to get to bed, about 10 minutes later someone showed up and told us we weren't the only ones he had to take care of! The line for breakfast stretched down the hallway back to check in area! The wifi was very slow! We had to call security at 11 pm (an hour past quiet time!) because of the noise on our floor and next to us. Seriously, it was like the trailer park went there for spring break. Horrible! Even when I complained about all this and more I was not offered any compensation. You can get a room at the French Lick Resort and enjoy a wonderful facility with a great pool for the same money. The water park was not that great anyway.
I don't understand some of the bad revues. No, it's not "Great Wolf Lodge", but our grandkids had a great time, and that's what counts to us. Our room was clean and quiet. All the staff was friendly. The restaurant was clean, and the food was good. The included breakfast offered a large variety. Some of the lifeguards were over zealous with their whistle, but that's ok. It's a tough job, when you have a lot of little kids to watch, and not much help from some of the parents. Worth the price, in our opinion.
We spent a few days at Big Splash with our 2 grandsons and their parents. It was fun. The hotel is nothing glamorous, but adequate. The water park is more geared toward younger kids. I think the slides and lay out would not appeal to older teens. For our proposes it was great. Our boys loved the kid slides. The youngest (just under 2) begged to go on the blue slide over and over. The lazy river was nice, but not too lazy. The restaurants had good food at reasonable prices. We had a microwave and fridge in our room, but no plates or utensils to use to reheat and eat leftovers. Suggest you bring your own plates etc if you want to eat in the room. We all enjoyed the trip. The adults liked the bigger slides. Even when the lines appeared long, they moved quickly.
