A very nice hotel situated on the edge of the old town centre on the side of a small shopping mall and a short walk over a footbridge to a park leading to the hills looking over Freiburg. The room was quite large and a nice bathroom. Parking is under the shopping mall. The hotel lift goes down to the 1st level of the car park but this was full after 10am each day. On arrival mid afternoon there was plenty of space on level -2 but the lift from there brings you into the mall and the hotel entrance is hidden round a corner by the main road. We walked past it twice! The windows have the name of the hotel restaurant on them (sorry can't remember name) rather than "Mercure". On checking out the receptionist will give you a special cheaper PARKING RATE of €9.90 per day and pro rata for part days.
We stayed for 3 nights at a 117e nightly rate with breakfast. Pros: - Quite good breakfast with many different options. - Our room had a nice view. Cons: - The price does not match the expectations for this price range in comparison with the rest of out 3-weeks trip through south Germany. - Underwhelming small lobby. - Some areas of the hotel seem to be renovated while some other not, resulting in dirty carpetings on the corridors and a general feeling of dustiness. The housekeeping could definitely be better. - Due to problems with our travel arrangements, we requested if a one extra night extension of our booking at a similar rate was possible. They said it was likely to be possible, but we had to wait until the moment of our check out. We waited, only to be communicated last minute that it was possible, but the price was much much higher, resulting in a morning lost packing in a rush and moving to a nearby hotel booked last minute. We respect and understand hotel on-demand pricing dynamics, but the way out case was managed felt greedy and opportunistic.
If driving here, make sure you call the hotel to ask for the name and location of the underground car park, otherwise you will be very confused. Parking and the stay at the hotel were expensive. My room had what seemed to be the stale smell of old cigarette smoke. Apart from that, the room and bathroom were modern and comfortable. Aircon was OK, but I am not sure how effective it would be in very hot weather. Breakfast is always good in a Mercure hotel and there was also a reasonable restaurant for dinner. Great location next to the city centre. I found it annoying that the lifts were slow to arrive and often crowded.
Beautiful hotel close to everything and very clean. Only downside if you’re later for breakfast the food isn’t replenished often enough . 2 mornings the chef was “too busy “ to make pancakes for my granddaughter and no bacon left .A small complaint tho . I would certainly stay there again 😀
Located on the edge of the Old Town the hotel is close to the main roads for easy access with to the highways. This is a modern hotel and everything works well. With a car park under the hotel access is easy. The rooms are in good condition and the wifi is strong. Definitely a good place to stay.
We had a good stay in this hotel, well located on the old city edge. Rooms are well equiped, clean and enough space for a short stay. Breakfast is very good. Bedlinnen could be better. Staff are very friendly and helpful, parking in the public garage in the basement. Separate elevator to the hotel .
Very nice and well located hotel. Really convenient for the Muensterplatz, park and other attractions. Clean and attractive rooms. Particular thanks to an extremely helpful receptionist who was very resourceful in helping us resolve a situation with a lost passport.
The hotel is part of a massive shopping complex, parking is fairly easy and it is 10 minutes to the center of old town by walking. Room and amenities are satisfactory. We went to the morning market for breakfast which is more colorful and adventurous. Very convenient for site visits in the city. It is kind of surprising to find the town not very active at night considering this is a college town.
The hotel is located a couple of streets away from the cathedral, and about 20 minutes on foot from the train station. The rooms are well maintained, neat clean and quite spacious. Buffet breakfast has good selection and there are lots of eating places in town. Hotel staff friendly and helpful.
Stayed there for a night and it was located near the Munster but has no bar fridge in the room. They retail cold drinks in the lobby. The major point that puts me off was that it was 20 degrees and the air con was not on as they shut it off for winter. Windows are locked meant that the room was damn bloody stuffy. Would not recommend to stay in winter or near spring.
