The hotel is in a good location (right across from train station) and it was clean. I did find the room a little dated and was given two single beds instead of a double. Room service menu doesn’t offer much -very little variety and no water/coffee in the room. The website says ‘fitness centre’, therefore I did expect a gym but was told when I arrived that there is only a pool, which I was quite disappointed about.
We stayed for a weekend. The hotel is enormous, lots of people staying here and most of them not very nice. The reception staff is outstanding and very helpful. The room we had was some sort of special room decorated by an artist ... it was nice and spacious and the bed was very comfy. The bathroom needs an update, the shower screen on the bathtub was a bit wonky, everything seems old and dated. The hotel may be holding onto the 4 star certification but it is more like a decent three star. It is all okay but nothing special and very old fashioned. One thing that is super is the parking, wide and accommodating. Breakfast is okay but full of badly behaved children running around ...it is okay though and totally the parents’ fault, not the hotel. All in all a decent option in the area but nothing to get excited about.
We have stayed in hundreds of hotels over the last few years big and small. This is a very nice hotel. The positives: friendly and accommodating staff, clean property and room, good WiFi, walking distance to train station, restaurants, shopping and old town, quiet hotel and room, comfortable bed, great water pressure in sink and shower, secure bicycle storage in garage, quick elevators, good breakfast buffet. The negatives: room lighting needs to be improved, air conditioning does little to cool the room( which is typical European a/c- not quite sure why they call it a/c when it does not function as a/c- make sure you ask for a room fan.), hotel is not a good value way overpriced at $200/night. Bottom line- we would stay there again.
During our two days and two nights at Novotel Freiburg, we were given a service that conveniently matches, and surpasses most of the 5 star standards. Located at the heart of the city, next to the shopping and food district, a blissful stroll from major attractions and most importantly an arm’s length from Freiburg’s main train station, this was the best choice, soon followed by Michelin level flavors to an exceptional team of staff, more helpful and efficient than I’ve ever experienced before. Within minutes they were able to provide us with several enticing itineraries and tips and tricks to make your stay at Freiburg more enjoyable and value for your money.
This is a perfect location for a stay in Freiburg, directly opposite the main train station and adjacent to all the main tram lines. It is also a really easy walk into the old town / market square / town centre and Freiburg is a lovely compact city. From the outside the hotel looks every bit the modern European 4* hotel, the reception is slick and shiny, and the staff friendly. Sadly the room did not live up to this, the room seemed dated and had a very 80s feel to it, the beds, a leaflet in the room informed us had been updated with swanky memory foam mattresses but the frame itself was certainly something out of Dynasty. Unfortunately we did not sleep well on this lovely mattress and the room was just WAY TOO HOT. There was no aircon and with 30 - 33 degrees c outside the room was like a sauna. We visited reception who informed us there was an air cooling system which worked when the windows were closed - but we never opened the windows. We were offered a fan which was gratefully received but there was no where practical to plug it in. The heat in the room plus a memory foam mattress was just unbearable, the fan was buzzing and whirling all night long somewhere across the other side of the room. We took to staying out really late to hope it had cooled down as much as possible. The house keeping was also not up to standard, twice we left a card on the door to say "do not disturb" and twice one of the staff just walked right in giving us quite the shock! The glasses were not cleaned and by the end of the 4 night stay we had 12 dirty glasses (glasses were replaced but dirty ones not taken away) in a line on the bathroom counter! We did state our concerns during our stay and at check out but were billed the full amount and off we went (okay, Brits are rubbish at complaining, I know!) Anyway, it's a great location, but if I were to visit Freiburg in the summer again to visit family I would choose a hotel with a modern air cooling facility - I can't wait to sleep in my own cool bed tonight to catch up on some good sleep!
Very Nice Hotel ; great location The rooms are big enough for 2 adults and 2 children Kids enjoyed the pool, although its very small Service was very good No Free Parking around ; 12 Euro per day in the hotel No Air Conditioning in the rooms ; the ventilation is not sufficient in the hot summer
It was my first time in Germany, obviously the first in Novotel facility. It was such a mind blowing moment for me. Couldn't thanks the Novotel stuff as enough as they have continuously been overwhelming me with their southing service. Keep shining!!
I love staying again and again at the hotel. Always friendly welcoming, nice room and feeling good to be back. I had some light snacks on the terrace as weather permitted. Staff recognized me and I felt nice Super location, nearby the train station and public transports
In a city as Freiburg, the location just at the border of the car'free' center, next to the railwaystation and with a big car park, the location is perfect. You can reach the hotel easily and walking you are immediately in the center. Although we've learned to avoid Novotel in France, here in Germany the rooms are clean, very well equipped and spacious. The breakfast is as it should be, with even a bit more. So very good value for this location. The only thing what might be better indicated is the parking. No use to first drive up to the hotel entrance. Just enter the public parking just a few meters further on the main road, and you will find a specific entrance inside for the hotel.
I wouldn’t say the decor of the room was that great, but size of our room very good, big in fact. But the location of the hotel is very good with lots of places to eat and everything is close by. Overall decent stay.
