About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Sheep’s Knob Refuge- ..Take refuge in Him. Ps 34:8

Our cabin is located 12 miles out of Franklin, NC near the Little Tennessee River. We are in easy traveling distance to whitewater rafting, kayaking both flat water and whitewater, fly fishing rivers, gem mining, zip lining, horseback riding, Deep Creek tubing, river tubing , The Appalachian Trail, hiking trails, waterfalls, Smoky Mountain Train excursions, Cherokee attractions/casino, Dollywood, Smoky Mountain National Forest, Blue Ridge Parkway, Elk viewings and Biltmore Estate in Asheville.
The space
Our cabin is on a quiet mountain 12 miles NW of Franklin, NC. Elevation about 2,000 ft. It has 2 bedrooms with 2 baths, king and queen sized beds and a bunk bed in a commons area.. Our favorite feature is our covered side deck with table and chairs for quiet meals while being entertained by the Hummingbirds vying over our two feeders. Plus, we have a fire pit where guests can gather to toast s'mores. And nothing beats the coziness of the gas burning stove for those chilly evenings or mornings. We have lots of family and children’s games and puzzles in the commons area plus books and DVDs. We also have Dish network satellite TV with DVR in the living room and the Master bedroom. Satellite WiFi allows Face Time and Zoom conferences..
Guest access
Guests have sole access to the whole house with hiking sticks for walks on our mountain or other nearby trails & outings near our many beautiful rivers and waterfalls. Our favorite place to picnic is at Deep Creek near Bryson City where there are tube rentals for tubing and picnic tables with grills, changing rooms and bathrooms. Bryson City is also where train excursions originate and a must see train museum with a huge working multiple model train layout. Be sure to check our Guidebook for plenty of things to see and do.
Other things to note
We don’t allow pets for the comfort and peace of mind for other guests who have pet allergies. We are also a non-smoking listing.

Because we are 12 miles from Franklin, NC, we message our confirmed guests complete information about local grocery stores so they can pick up groceries before arriving at the cabin.

Additional note: As further precautions during the pandemic we block off dates between guests to be able to clean more thoroughly. We use Lysol Laundry Sanitizer additive for all towels and washables. We also wash all bed linens including quilts, blankets, and even the mattress covers. We leave a container of alcohol wipes for our guests and liquid hand sanitizer. Of course we wipe down remotes, switches, door knobs and keypads with alcohol wipes too. We spray non-washable fabrics with Lysol disinfectant spray.
Just trying to keep our guests and us safe from infection.
The vacation home is air-conditioned and features a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a patio, and there's space to spread out with 2 bedrooms. Guests can enjoy a Smart TV and stay connected with free WiFi. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a fireplace, and a coffee maker.

Our stay

Part of the deck was'nt accessable. We loved the swing on the deck but there needs to be a shade of some type to pull down when sitting out there because the sun beats in on you and gets too hot.

Visiting Family

We really enjoyed staying in this cabin. Love the rustic view. The owner and his wife were such wonderful host. The only thing for me was I have a big truck and hard to turn around. I’m not a good backer upper. lol. But would try again.

Short Visit: Nephew's Wedding

This property had all the amenities we need for our short visit to the area: internet, a power recliner, no stairs, and a walk-in shower. The last 3 items were needed for my mother due to her limited mobility. Plus, it was located between family in Hayesville and the wedding in Whittier. The satellite internet was spotty at times more than likely due to the weather conditions in the area. Overall, it was sufficient for our needs.

Tucked Away Mountain Stay

The owners informed us about the nearest grocery stores to stop at in the area before getting out to the cabin. So glad they did because this cabin is out there. When we pulled up the description of how to find it matched with the cabin and it was so peaceful. Due to it being our anniversary trip the owners left a gift for us, greatly appreciated. We read all instructions that they left on the counters and little tidbits of information left around the home. We were able to really relax enjoy ourselves and enjoyed the quiet. We heard the hummingbirds but by the time we were able to see them they were here and gone. There really was no internet or cell signal to speak of, because of being out in the woods, but that worked because we wanted to get away from our phones and not be bothered. The owners are great people, they stopped by to check on us and then went about their way. Really enjoyed my stay and looking to come back next year.

Nice getaway in the Smokey Mountains

We stayed for a week to fish, hike and do tourist things. The GPS location was spot on and we had no trouble finding the place. Graham and Linda were very helpful in keeping us up to date for the grocery stores and check in times before our stay. This was a barrier free home with no stairs or anything that would provide an issue with anyone with mobility concerns. Kitchen had everything we needed. The water pressure for showers was awesome. Lots of room to spread out and relax after a busy day. Lots of birdfeeders so we saw many woodpeckers, finches and hummingbirds. The cabin is along a road that motorcycles like to ride on so that was busy, but we were far enough off the road to be a distraction. Overall, an affordable and lovely place to stay. It was also nice meeting Graham and Linda!

Beautiful and Restful Stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was clean and comfortable and stocked with everything we needed. What made it extra special is that the outside porch furniture was also clean. The porch and daybed beckoned us to relax and enjoy the mountains. The location is close to Franklin center and 25min to Bryson and Fontana Lake. Check out was a breeze. Would definitely stay here again.

Slippery Slopes

While the accommodations would have been perfect and the owners very kind, the narrow, leaf covered path was a game changer for us. After spinning our wheels on wet leaves and sliding on a path with no room for error, we decided to leave.

Week stay in Franklin, NC

The cabin was very spacious and clean. It had everything we needed in the kitchen and bathrooms and then some. We liked the privacy at the end of the road. The road is a narrow one lane mostly dirt road but easy to navigate in the day time. I wouldn't want to arrive after dark for the first time. Parking and turn around is tight but doable. The trees, weeds and vines could use some trimming. We loved sitting on the covered deck enjoying the cool mountain breezes. There is probably a good mountain view once the leaves are off the trees. Graham and Linda are great hosts. We've stayed at many VRBObut never had hosts that contacted us as much. They even brought us fresh peaches which was such a treat. We hope to stay here again.

Absolutely Perfect

We had an amazing week at Sheep’s Knob Refuge. The location is a perfect central location in the Smoky Mountains. We enjoyed a day trip to Dollywood (less than 2 hours away), shopping in Cherokee, hiking and tubing at Deep Creek Campground, and driving to the Wayah Bald observation tower. When we weren’t out hiking or playing we enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the hummingbirds. My only regret is that we did not have more time to stay there. The cabin is stocked with everything you need. The kitchen even has a crock pot and electric griddle. The owners live down the street and are so kind and gracious. We felt very welcomed. Thanks for sharing your amazing cabin.
