Star Hawk Springs Chateaux - Large 6 Bdrm Retreat
The Chateaux is a unique and historic property in rural Wisconsin. Our home has proudly stood for generations, with many original features that reflect its rich history. Please note: this is not a modern build. You’ll find charming, ‘lived-in’ details that make the space authentic, safe, and special. We sit on a wildflower field, an outdoor bonfire area and a spacious guest condo offering 6 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a Great Room and a kitchen that seats sixteen. Deer and foxes love to visit the wildflower field, and there are two large state parks and the Mississippi River within 25 minutes for hiking, fishing, boating and exploring. The Chateaux is a great fit for family and friend groups.
In addition to the lovely bedrooms and living room, there's a full kitchen - that is absolutely the "church basement" feel kitchen - if you'd like to cook on site, including a full compliment of pots, pans, bakeware, dishes, silverware, etc. We do provide dish soap, spices, oil and a small selection of tea. Bring your own coffee supplies, food, beverages, firewood, sunblock and mosquito repellant. We also provide towels for use in the home, soap, and shampoo and conditioner for you to use during your stay.
The guest wing is comfortable without being modern, and great for relaxing after a fun-filled day outside or at the local auto museum, monolithic monuments, ice cream shops or other adventures. Please note that while the bedrooms and bathrooms are updated, the Great Room and kitchen are not recently renovated and have the building's original feel and design, including original flooring. Please also note that the Chateaux is home to three other separate residences which share walls with the guest wing. Please review the House Rules regarding quiet hours. Also, being in the Wisconsin countryside means enjoying the beauty of nature — you may see wildlife outdoors, and occasionally small visitors like ladybugs or flies may wander inside, especially if doors are left open during move-in. We provide supplies to make your stay comfortable, and most guests find this part of the authentic rural experience.
The condo is air-conditioned and features a kitchen, 2.5 bathrooms, and a patio. There's space to spread out with 6 bedrooms and a dining area. Guests can expect to find free WiFi and a TV with a DVD player. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a coffee maker, and an ironing board.

The space worked well for our family group. Perfect number of bedrooms and sleeping spaces. Really enjoyed the variety of books in the library. Bathrooms clean. Bedrooms mostly clean— found a few spiderwebs and a stain on a sheet. Host responsive to request for missing expected items—shampoo, coffee grounds.Outdoor area ample for kids to play and run.Peaceful view of the field, dark night skies. We knew from the listing that the main room and the kitchen had not been updated, but didn’t anticipate carpet dirt stains in main room and chipped tiles and the pitted concrete floor in the kitchen. Most cabinet fronts had dried dripped food stains. Thick dust on furniture in main room.Review from a couple of months ago mentioned an encased broken glass window in the living room. Hopefully that is being addressed. We knew there would be some flies and bugs but it was alarming how many there were.

The appeal to the property was the six bedrooms and three bathrooms for our group of 9. The owners maintenance man was fantastic and came shortly after we requested help with things. Even with that said, we were disappointed with the property. The ad was misleading. The kitchen was in the basement with no windows or good ventilation. The crickets went non-stop down there and we killed a cockroach. The ad listed accommodations for up to 20 people, but the kitchen had only one refrigerator and the oven had three working burners. The electrical is outdated and we blew the fuses cooking breakfast one morning. The interior was dirty with stained carpets, hanging fly strips, old furniture in living room and poor lighting. The beds were comfortable though. The dogs in the apartment next door were a problem. It took at least three days for them to stop barking nonstop. We were told to shut the door to the basement to muffle the noise. It didn't work. After that it was periodic barking at all hours. The dog owners did not clean up the poop in the yard. There was a fly problem - the maintenance man brought us enough fly swatters to have one per person. He also came to spray for hornets because we couldn't sit outside. Grill was broken - missing wheel on one corner and the lighter didn't work. The maintenance man was very good about coming whenever we needed something. We still had fun with our group even through the property condition was not the best.

The online pictures of the Chateax are very misleading about the actual condition on the place. When we walked in there were hundreds of flies stuck to the ceiling in bedrooms and my husband spent about an hour vacuuming up flies. A couple parts of the ceiling are bubbling from most likely a roof issue. Looks like a few areas of the ceiling could cave in. We had paid for 2 air mattresses but only received one with a mismatch of bedding/ blankets. Management was responsive though and did bring us the second air mattress. After the initial shock of the condition of the house, we adapted, and had a decent stay.

Property was incredibly unclean, grill had an old steak on it and was clearly not cleaned. Kitchen was disgusting, especially the floors and constantly had crickets. House was always covered in flies at all times. Noise alarm felt incredibly unnerving and made us feel like we couldn't relax at night.Neighbors moved in with incredibly loud dogs that barked every time we did anything even at night. I don't believe a property like this should be allowed on VRBO when the neighbors are people who live on the property. Basically we rented a big apartment which is not what we were looking for in a cabin trip getaway. Property needs a lot of work and is dire need of a renovation. Leaky ceiling, massive gaps around AC units in the window, floors in basement kitchen are disgusting, etc.

Photos of this property are very misleading!!!Concerning conditions that effect guest safety.Broken window. Leaking roof from rain causing debris to fall from the ceiling. 2.5 bathrooms are good.We left a day early due to poor conditions. Reached out to host the morning we were leaving, refused refund. Also reached out to VBRO for assistance with the host, waiting for a response from them.

Winona family weekend
Pretty unique property in a calming remote area with rolling hills & wildlife.
It looks to have some renovations taking place and could use more.
Maybe the time of the year in the country or not knowing when the unit was occupied last…lots dead flies on the ground & many more in the bead rooms flying around?!?!
However the value of the rental for number of people it can sleep is good vs the cost!
The hosts were very responsive!

Just right for our clan!
What we needed was a place large enough for the 18 members of our extended family to relax without feeling crowded, and plenty of room for 7 little cousins to play. The kids loved the big grassy field; we brought along an inflatable wading pool and lots of outdoor activities. Indoors they decided that the second-floor balcony was ideal for putting on "puppet shows" with their stuffed animals to entertain the adults in the great room below.
The property is showing its age*, but Julia was immediately responsive to any glitch or question we had. If shiny resort life is your thing, the Chateaux is probably not for you--but if you have happy memories of sleep-away camp, you'll do just fine!
*Note: the bathrooms are all updated and very clean. It was the basement kitchen that to us was the greatest drawback.

Great size for our family of 10
We could spread out as needed with 6 bedrooms on 2 levels. Little kids went to bed (and woke up) early upstairs. Nice, renovated bathrooms.
Kitchen facilities were convenient for food prep and eating together, once we adjusted to the basement location.
We loved the green vista out back. All of us enjoyed being outside with the birds and playing in the grass.
We would recommend accessing the property via WI 95 and county Rd P from Fountain City.

Jill is amazing
We had a blast in Fountain City at the Chateau. Me and some friends went out to be secluded and have a fun time playing yard games and get away from the city life. Jill and the maintenance man, Tom, were a pleasure to talk to and deal with. We also had plenty of space inside and outside where 8 people could comfortable be able to fit and relax. there are a few things in the place that could be updated, but other than that the place was great.

Beautiful Family Space
Able to bring our extended family with lots of young kids and all had a great time. Rooms just off great room made it easy for adults to put kids to bed and stay in one space together. Loved the fire pit and there was a grove of pine trees that made a perfect hammock hanging location.
