We splurged on one night in this beautiful castle. We arrived with beautiful weather that changed as we watched through long windows, roll over the mountains and loch (the beginning of the blizzard that would shut Scotland down for days). We lounged and drank adult beverages and just breathed. Beautiful, well maintained decor and staff that waits on your every need. This was a huge change from our frugal drive to places that no one goes to in winter in Scotland. And, it reminded me about how much I love my freedom to come and go without respecting the needs of servants. In this day and age where we grouse about the 1%, it was lovely to try it for a night and realize how happy I am in the life I lead. But the food, wow! We borrowed dinner wear (They have it on hand) for the seven course dinner with wine by the glass pairings. Loved the steak tartare, and the cod course, and the salmon under spinach, as well as the duck. The pasta course was pretty to look at, and it was a great idea to “print” pasta with sage. The wine pairings were interesting, ask for a smaller half glass, as you will be having seven or eight wines with your dinner. But, splurge on this. It is well worth the price. The rooms are real bedchambers with extremely elegant bathrooms. I got up early and floated in the giant tub until every inch was a prune, then donned the fluffy white robe and climbed back into the crisp bed linens for breakfast in bed. What a relaxing way to start the day.
