HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!- We booked 2 rooms through the advance rate which means we pay in full before arrival. Received confirmation for both rooms and the confirmed rate. Drove 6 hours to get to the hotel and then Amira -front desk receptionist- told us that only one of the rooms payment went through. The other room we had to pay an addition fee because the payment did not go through... I never received a phone call or an email stating otherwise. I asked to speak to the manager, Gisele Gonzalez, came out and said that they normally call if the payment doesn't go through but they didn't in this case. I asked why didn't they notify me before hand... She could not give me an answer and kept repeating that we need to pay the normal rate for the second room because the payment didn't go through. Told that I'm frustrated because we drove 6 hours to get here and even checked in early through their app and expected everything to go smoothly but came to in to this madness. Had to pay the different rate because everywhere else was booked and couldn't cancel the second room because they wanted to charge me over 60% of the room price to cancel. I don't understand this monstrosity because I booked the two rooms same time and day, same credit card but only one went through and they didn't have the decency to give their customer a call to resolve it ahead of time. Bait and switch much? Never ever coming back to this location. Just horrible...
The Courtyard hotel is clean and quiet. I was almost at the end of the hall next to the stairs and the only noise I ever heard was the room next door closing their door a couple of times. We had a partial water view and I was happy with the expanse of ocean view we had. The hotel has been built by a few older properties, so that part of the view was not the best, but I cannot complain for the price. The refrigerator is a little on the small side for a beach trip so bring a cooler. We rented chairs and an umbrella all day for $31.95. The best part of the trip was that the beach was not very crowded. I have read one complaint about the beach being too narrow, but I thought it was just fine. We had no one sit in front of us, which was wonderful. I did have a problem with my Marriott elite member welcome points--I brought it to the attention of the front desk, and it has yet to be resolved, which will require more effort on my part. One of the two elevators was broken. They provided a ticket for a free drink at the minimarket, but they were not very consistent about giving them, as I did not receive one on check in as I should have (but received one later). That process needs to be more consistent. The pool, as others have stated, is very small. I think a very small investment in potted plants could really make a big difference in the pool's appearance. There was also enough parking, although it is a bit tight with the concrete stilts. On our first night we walked to AJs, which did not have much of a wait. The second night we took an Uber a mile down the road to the pier where there are several restaurants. Those without small kids could stroll down relatively easily.
We came to the Courtyard on Friday afternoon. Check in went well. I am a Marriott rewards member and used points for my visit. The location is located right on the beach via a walk way. The pictures of others are good examples of what my room looked like. Strengths-The hotel smells good. The beach is right there. They have a pool. They have a small bistro and market for food offerings. The decor is newer. I always found a parking spot. The shower was walk in and the bathroom was nicely sized. Opportunity areas-My room was not cleaned while I was there. This was brought to the attention of the staff and was told a manager would contact me but they never did by the end of my stay or today. The toilet ran practically non stop and at one point wouldn't flush. I don't want to deal with pulling off toilet lids on my vacation. This was seen on other reviews as well. I tried to use my points for Thursday night and told I couldn't. So I stayed at the 4 points by Sheraton as it was on the beach as well and about 100 dollars cheaper a night. It was definitely not as good as this Courtyard by Marriott. So if you are looking at comparing the two hotels this one is better. I would stay at this location again as far as the location and room was nice. Just want new towels. When I'm at the beach I want to take regular showers and not have to go to the lobby searching for towels.
We booked a one night stay here. Also stayed further down the coast. There was several things I did like. The hotel looks and is very new. Nicely decorated hotel and rooms. Check in was easy and staff friendly. Room appeared very clean. Only but big issue for us was super hard bed ... did not sleep well due to this. No balcony at this hotel but knew this booking. Did have a partial view of ocean from my window as expected but ended up missing hearing the waves more than I realized I would. However this hotel is cheaper than most w ocean front Balcony would. If your not staying in your room much this might not matter. Room did have standard size fridge and microwave. The Bistro down stairs does have Starbucks coffee and food. My husband has French toast which he liked. I had avocado toast which wasn’t near as good as the last Marriott I had it at Virginia Beach. Not sure difference but wasn’t that good and total bill for those above and latte was 37 bucks. Was made quickly I can say. Noticed also this area on coast has much narrower beach which they can’t help. The sand is still the soft white sand. You have to go over. Bridge thing and some stairs to access beach but not far walk at all. No towel service but that’s expected at this price point. Do have chairs you can rent. Only other major disappoint for me was the pool. It appears to me the pool was already there Years before the hotel was built. Very tiny and older appearing. Can’t see the beach from pool due to dune. Cheap chairs by pool and no umbrellas. Picture makes pool look way nicer than what it is. Noticed all the hotels in Fort Walton near this one didn’t have a pool though or had one similar to this. If pools are important noticed there hotels going closer to Destin a nicer pools at similar price points.
We just returned on Monday from a long weekend inn Destin. We had a great stay. The front desk was courteous and helpful. The food from the bistro was good and the hotel was right on the beach. Be sure to take your own beach umbrellas and chairs because they didn't offer any. I would definitely visit again.
My family are staying here for a week long vacation and the housekeeping service is severely lacking. During our stay, we had to flag the housekeeper down twice to ask her to clean our room as we could tell she was leaving for the day. The third incident, housekeeping came by our room around noon while we were still getting ready to head out and so we asked her to return within an hour which she said "yes, she could". However, upon returning to our room at 5 pm, our room had not been cleaned. When we called down to the front desk, there was no apology but simply we can bring you towels and have someone empty your garbage. As a family with small kids that treks dirt everywhere (especially after a day on the beach), not having our room cleaned was extremely bothersome. Further, I had also requested front desk to have the manager call me first thing the next morning (as she had already left at 4 pm), but no call was received but only an apology note put under our door. We come to this area every year and have stayed at numerous Marriott properties, and based on this experience would not return to this hotel as a result of the poor housekeeping service and the lack of management response to properly deal with our issues.
This is our favorite place to stay when we’re in town! Right on the beach and I a great location to be able to walk to restaurants or other places. The only downside to this place, is the bar only serves beer and wine. So if you’re not a fan of either of those, you’ll have to go elsewhere. Which kind of sucks when you just want a glass of bourbon after a long day. The food at the bar is reasonably priced and very delicious!
Over all we had a nice weekend but I was very disappointed in the evening staff Saturday and then Sunday morning.. He was to the point of being rude and wasn't very professional. We will stay somewhere else on our next trip to FWB...
Awesome how parking is underneath the hotel or at least the majority of it. Also nice having the hotel on concrete pillars as an example of planning being that close to the beach. Interior was what should be expected of a typical Courtyard property. Staff was super friendly at this location. From the staff working the coffee and food, the front desk staff to the maintenance and cleaning staff. Everyone was really nice. The beds were comfortable, interior of room excellent. Ease of walking to the beach was great. Aside from all the positive the only thing I missed was a mini fridge. I'm here for a month so I should have planned more appropriately but if you're just here for a weekend or possibly a week then this is a great place, great location to eateries and a short walk to the beach.
I stay in Marriotts all the time, but this hotel has made me rethink that for sure. Starting with the staff member checking in being very unprofessional and talking to his computer about some chat and then not being able to accommodate room requests and stating that requests were not made when they were. Staff appears to have no clue with what is going on. Unreliable for sure. I escaped the property before I had to endure anymore mishaps.
