A bit dated but the location is great. Our room was very clean and the beds comfortable. The buffet meal was excellent with plenty of choices. An easy walk to all amenities. I thought the hotel foyer and the corridors to our rooms were a little dull and dark and it was quite cold inside. Over all a good place to stay.
Great location right in the center of town. A little expensive but you get a pretty good sized room. Everything is rather old but I don't think there are many new hotels in the area. Everything was clean though. The main thing I did not like was that there was no A/C, this seems common in the area. It was rather cool outside but you want to have some ventilation so its not stuffy. Luckily there is a fan in the room so that worked well.
We stayed one night as part of a tour group. Te Anau is in such a beautiful location that the hotel almost doesn't matter. This hotel is very conveniently located for easy access to the lake front, the park, shops, bars and restaurants ... and the pie shop! Our room was average; clean, and had everything we needed for a short stay.
We stayed at the hotel for one night in February during a multi-day hike, where we were at a different lodge each night. The hotel was clean, comfortable and well-equipped with toiletries. But what prompted me to write was the honesty, integrity and kindness of its staff. We left a valuable pair of travel binoculars in our room but didn't realize it for several days. We contacted our guide company twice to help us locate the binoculars to no avail. We assumed the binocs, a 25-year-old wedding present, were lost forever. But three weeks later, I decided to do a little more digging, so I contacted the Luxmore. A staff member replied within minutes to let me know they had found the binoculars and would be happy to mail them to us. We received them a few days later. I am incredibly grateful to the staff for returning our prized possession. That act alone deserves five stars. Thank you!
I booked the top suite for our nights before and after Milford Track walk. Plus side were a big bath with massage jets (think about post walk requirements!) and a well equipped kitchenette. But all a bit tired and the hotel seemed clogged with tour groups from Mr Trump’s countryside. Who of course are utterly lovely. We didn’t try the in-house dining.
Not a four star but okay for one night, price was reasonable. Room a good size but nothing special. Sadly we have found other rooms in NZ do not reach their rating. Reception was fine, if a bit dark. Overall, okay, just.
A good sized room but rather noisy in the morning as the occasional lorry delivered good under the window. Facilities in the room were fine but, unfortunately, no outlook and nothing special about the place except for its location in the centre of town and the lifts! Breakfast was ok and the staff friendly.
When we arrived, our room had been generously upgraded from standard to deluxe. It's very quiet, although there are busloads of tourists who all arrive and depart at the same time! The room is a bit shabby, but it's very clean. We wish there was a table and chairs, rather than two oversize arm chairs. We had an early tour at Milford Sound, which meant we had to leave before most restaurants in town would have been able to serve us. The man who checked us in suggested we order the box breakfast from the hotel to take along. It seemed like a good idea, but it was a big disappointment. It probably should have occurred to me, but it didn't, that the bacon and egg croissant would be pretty unappetizing served cold. What we received was a sliced croissant with a fried egg and bacon slices bacon. There wasn't anything else, no butter or spread. (I thought it was going to be what we call egg salad: chopped hardboiled eggs mixed with some mayonnaise and other mix-ins, like bacon.) There were two sandwiches in each box, along with a tub of yogurt (no spoon), an apple, and apple-orange juice. Too bad we didn't know to walk to a nearby bakery to buy a lovely pastry for our breakfast on the go. On a positive note, he wifi is incredibly good!
This is a mid-range hotel with serviceable rooms which are spacious and clean, but nothing exceptional. It is located in the middle of Te Anau (which is very small anyway) so it's easy to get to see everything. Parking is a bit tight, but we managed to get parking on the roadside and that was perfectly safe. Good for a one night touring stop.
Our tour company put us at Luxmore from 2/20 to 2/21. We were very disappointed with the room, which had smell of mold, worn-out beds, old-style bathroom with two separate faucets (one for cold water, the other for hot, how do you expect to get warm water for washing hands/face?) This hotel is advertised as a 4-star hotel which was what we expected. However, its newer main building has maybe newer 4-star rooms but it’s old section has very outdated 1-star motel-style rooms. Unfortunately, we were put into the motel room, in which we found spider on the wall beside the bed, shower turned cold all of a sudden, and funny and molding smells. The experience was horrible and needless to say, we passed sleepless nights there and felt being cheated!
