Distinction Luxmore Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

Our travel company uses the Luxmore located in the centre of town and walking distance to most things. Unfortunately on our overnight stay the hotel was inundated with cyclists, there was a rally or something happening. On our floor hotel room doors were left open and from what I could see many people were staying in each room as well as their bikes. Guys were walking around the foyer etc with no shirts, cycles in lifts, washing hanging out of windows, raised voices in rooms, swearing, I am certainly not a prude but the hotel management in my opinion should have managed the cyclist stay much better. Mrs Retiredwino and I enjoyed the smorgasbord evening meal however some in our group thought the food selection was "ordinary". Next morning at breakfast with the cyclists jammed into the restaurant is was bedlam, luckily our group had an area set aside. I guess our stay was not ideal timing.
Following a long road journey it was so nice to be able to walk out the front door and find a selection of walking opportunities so close. It was relaxing to stroll along the edge of the lake, play mini golf and visit some quality shops. Hotel staff were good in all areas and handled a large influx of tourists with efficiency.
The staff in the dining room were very attentive. The food was good and the buffets were replenished frequently. The rooms were comfortable and well decorated. The hotel is very close to the lake and town centre. Te Anau is a good place to stay for visiting Milford Sound.
We were unsure of the standard of this hotel before arrival, as it was unprepossessing from the road. However the staff were more than helpful, parking was excellent and close, and the room was of excellent standard. Not only well-presented, it was stylish and modern, and very well provisioned. Access to the upper floors was by lift, which seems to be unusual in hotel in NZ of three levels or less such as this one. The view out the wide windows at the end of the room faced the beautiful surrounding mountainscapes of Te Anau (over the parking area), which was very charming. This hotel is definitely punching above its weight in the NZ hotel stakes.
This was the second time we'd stayed at the Distiction Luxmore and we enjoyed it just as much as the first. Right in the heart of town, nothing was to far away! We walked along the lake foreshore for a couple of hours taking in the spectacular scenery.
It was an uneventful stay, nothing memorable. I guess that's also good. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were decent, I wish they were not carpeted though. it's kind of like Ramada Inn in the U.S. Buffet meals were okay too.
The staff member checking us in seemed a bit frustrated after a long day, but the process was relatively quick and simple. The room was fairly large and clean, but did smell like dettol had been sprayed everywhere. Admittedly there are worse things that a hotel room can smell of, but it smelt more like a hospital rather than a nice place to unwind and relax after a long drive.
Well greeted from the receptionist Hamish eventhough it was very early. Staff will go all the way to help you out with our inquiries. Room was abit outdated but definitly comfortable for us. Walking distance to the beautiful te anau lake.
The room was big and clean. The staff were very friendly. The hotel location is in a very convenient location. The bed and pillows were some of the most comfortable we had along quite a few different hotel stays on this trip. The rooms and property in general are a bit dated and could use some updating. But overall, we were very happy with this property and would stay again.
Drove from Queenstown (about 3 hour trip) to do Doubtful Sound trip next day. Rooms are large and clean. Liked 2 chairs and coffee table at large window overlooking park, and beyond lake. Also liked luggage shelf which could hold two suitcases. Staff are welcoming. Bus loads of tourists stay here, and staff need to remember to replenish the bathroom adjacent to Reception, promptly in the morning, after they have left! Buffet breakfast accommodates the masses with toast already prepared and waiting which makes it a bit dry and crunchy. Good selection of the usual buffet breakfast offerings. But they need to keep the soy milk with the other milk beside the breakfast cereals.
