Stayed just one night. Very friendly and helpful checkin staff. Room was nice and apart from non air con, it was fine. It’s 100yds from the lake and has a restaurant attached. It’s ideal as a stop over.
Nice friendly staff, only to willing to accommodate, however stifling hot rooms when we stayed. No air conditioning. Good location but not lake front.a bit dated, efficient dealing with coach loads at a time.
If you want a "hotel" rather than a "motel" to put your head down at then the Luxmore fits the bill. Having stayed there two nights I'm convinced that the local motels or B&B's would be equally acceptable. The Luxmore is a large establishment and when we visited it was catering for several bus tours. Consequently there were busy times and likewise more quiet times. Our room was large with two queen beds, but no views. In fact I don't think that any of the rooms have any noteworthy views. The buffet breakfast, to put it plainly, is disappointing. You would be better spending your breakfast funds at one of the nearby cafes. Free Wi-Fi is provided. Finding a parking spot at the premises is challenging - though valet parking is offered. We would think twice before reconsidering a stay here should we revisit this area of Fjordland again some day.
We had a superior suite & it certainly was! Two huge double beds fridge en suite with bath & shower. The room was vast & equiped for all our needs. One of the best value for mo eye on our trip so far.
We stayed in room 336 and found the room clean, bed comfortable. Bit of a hiccup with the choice of the room and the management gave us a free meal in the restaurant. Management staff were very helpful in telling us the sightseeing places once when got to Milford Sound. Buffett breakfast selection was great and the staff were very pleasant. Hotel cost is pretty expensive although it was in the peck tourist season. Would recommend the hotel to stay if not on a budget.
We stayed here for two nights and wished it had been longer. The hotel was smart and well serviced and we were upgraded to a superior room which was spacious and modern. The hotel is next to the lake and very near all the restaurants, shops and bars. We did the nature cruise at Milford Sound whilst based at this hotel, about a 90 min drive each way, weather permitting, with some stunning scenery and waterfalls. Good value accommodation, and very customer focussed staff, would definitely go back.
Very central location, but most other lakefront hotels/motels aren’t that far away either (Te Anau is not very big). The hotel is pretty big and felt quite dated. It felt like a 3-star establishment. Would probably recommend motels by the lake over this hotel. Certainly fine for a short stay.
No AC only a fan but not needed as it was overcast when we stayed. Had a large room with plenty of space, good nights sleep, good breakfast. Only drawback was the bathroom extractor fan which went on for 10 minutes after the light went out and was very noisy, not good if you gave to get up in the night to use the bathroom.
Like the other reviews, my assessment of the Luxmore is mixed. Many hotels we stayed at on our AAT Kings tour of the South Island had no Air-conditioning, so I am not going to weigh into this debate, because hotels are not going to retrofit A/C to all of their rooms. You do get used to this somewhat quirky aspect of NZ touring. Some nights we had to rug up, and other times struggled to cool off. There is no doubt that the Luxmore is in a convenient location, near the visitors Centre for glow-worm tours, and other adventures, with a supermarket across the road to restock your dwindling supplies. It is a fairly basic standard, but comfortable, clean and meeting most of our needs. Just a couple of observations for prospective guests, and helpful feedback for the hotel owners/management: The foyer is in need of refurbishment, especially the sofa with the black scuff marks. Quite depressing walking into the hotel, dark and in need of better lighting. Our bed was very odd; a bit like a waterbed or bouncy castle. My wife rolled around when I got in to bed. The pillow wasn’t much better, but we were so exhausted it didn’t matter. In summary, a solid 3 star hotel that should meet your needs.
Enjoyed two nights here recently, check in was easy and friendly, good location in central Te Anau, in saying that the town is small. Rooms were very comfortable and mine was quiet. I had meals in both the upstairs buffet and downstairs in the bar/restaurant. Selection of food was good, service was very good and friendly. Will stay again.
