We stayed here for 7 nights in a suite with plunge pool. The views are great and the island is quite quaint. The food is average but expected for a small island, price wise it was average for an island as I know they bring it over From Nadi. It was a little run down in places and could do with a freshen up. The staff were nice and friendly. The beach and water is amazing!
Absolutely gorgeous island, and fantastic service. Only small things I would say is that: They check you in one room at a time, so if you happen to arrive on a day when there's 7/8 people joining, if you are unlucky enough to be the last guest room you will be the last checked in (bonus though being that will likely the most secluded room!) Other item is the Sundays - they seem to do a Lovu which is the traditional method of cooking. We were quite excited to see this and try it out however were very surprised to receive the bill on checking out and discover that it was charged at an exorbitant amount compared to other meals through the week - there wasn't any advertised options, and if we'd known it was going to be that much we would definitely have asked about options, as my partner wasn't eating much due to the heat (she had two pieces of chicken and a roll for her main, plus some fruit for starter). So we found that the Sunday was our most expensive day on the island due to paying two high price dinners while we had survived on a lot less the rest of the time.
Everything was amazing. Everything. Views, service, food, bure (go for sunset side!). Total ambience. We went for our second honeymoon and it was incredibly romantic. Take a day trip out to snorkel the outer reefs. My husband also scuba dived for the first time and the team were professional and gave him the most amazing experience. Loved every minute of our 5 night stay.
Matamanoa was an absolutely amazing resort to stay at. I went with my family as my mom is a travel agent who sells tours here & wanted to check it out for herself- so we all came along. It is more of a couples resort than a place to be with family, but we still had an incredible time. The staff is extremely accommodating and they have plenty of activities and tours to do. There is nothing else on the island aside from the resort, which I thought would be a downside- but they take you on village tours, and island hopping tour to see other islands, snorkeling tours, diving tours etc. You can even hike to the top of the island for some incredible views. The one thing that really stood out to us was the staff. They are the friendliest people you will ever meet, and make the stay extra fun. I recommend participating in the daily activities they have for the day- even if it is just you and one other person. They do crab races, crab hunting, touch rugby, limbo, and many more activities. I highly recommend staying at this beautiful resort if you want a getaway that’s a bit more secluded. We did half our stay on the mainland, and half our stay at matamanoa. I absolutely adored the staff & think they made the stay as great as it was!
Beautiful, peaceful small island. Sad to leave, and so relieved we chose this place over the 'multi-activity' larger resorts. Highly recommended special place to chill. Upon leaving we realized how much we had relaxed. Great trips and dive shop.
BULA!!! We have just returned from a week at Matamanoa over New Year. We were travelling myself and my husband and we stayed in a Beachside Bure (B20) on the sunset side of the island. We were also travelling with my mother who had a garden room as well. The room itself was extremely large and well appointed, with a beautiful terrace area and plunge pool, cabana bed and sunbeds. The view was amazing and we were right next to the steps to go down to the beach. We were on half board basis and the food was extremely good, with daily choices. The presentation was beautiful and receiving a flower at breakfast and dinner was a lovely touch. Unlike other islands I have stayed at previously, with the exception of a BBQ on one night and the New Years Eve dinner all the meals were served to our table and were not buffet style which I prefer. The staff are all wonderful - particularly the entertainments team. I loved the singing and I felt that the staff genuinely loved doing this. The dive school were excellent - not that we dived, but we snorkeled and went on guided snorkel trips and safaris. Thanks must also go to Trevor and Emma who own the school and also to our instructor Si who really went the extra mile to show us everything on the trips. We saw reef sharks, turtles, colour changing coral and much more. Lots can be seen very close to the shore. The edge of the reef is more cololurful as there was a cyclone which has sadly damaged a lot of the coral close to the shore. We had a fabulous time and I really could have stayed longer. We had a couple of minor issues with fresh beach towels and the island has a lot of daily change overs and so don't expect your room to be made up early but it wasn't a major problem for us. Overall a wonderful small destination - great being adults only, and I felt that we were important and mattered. The New Year's Eve dinner and festivities with cultural entertainment was fantastic. I would love to return!
I literally cried when our boat pulled away from Matamanoa after our 4 nights. This place is paradise. If you want to experience somewhere to get away from it all, it doesn’t get any better. White sands, tropical reefs on your doorstep, no screaming kids or crowds. The staff are warm and attentive. I would like to especially mention Adi, who made us feel like her family. There are free activities and tours available but why would you want to leave paradise? I acknowledge what may be paradise to me may not be for everyone so with that in mind I offer TripAdvisor readers the following. If you want a ‘busy’ atmosphere then this is not for you. If you want to sit in your room and watch tv and order room service this place is not for you. If you tire easily of looking at perfect sunrises and sunsets on beautiful clean beaches this isn’t for you. If you want to have a cold ‘vanilla’ resort service experience where everything is super quick and everyone kisses your bottom then this is not for you. What sets this resort apart in my mind is the warm casualness of the staff. Do not mistake it for unprofessionalism it is Fijian hospitality- embrace it! I have to admit adapting to ‘Fiji Time’ takes ... well time but you’re on a beautiful island- there is no stress no rush so does it really matter if your lunch takes 10 minutes to arrive? I loved the table serenades and I had a lump in my throat when it was our turn to be sung the farewell song. I would opt for an oceanview Bure or villa if you can afford it as they looked amazing. We could only afford the resort room which in itself was great but we’ll be saving our pennies for the opportunity to laze on our daybed and marvel at the ocean view. That and more menu variety (eg a few vegetarian options on the normal menu) would have made my stay perfect. I cannot wait to go back to my island paradise. I will be back...
The beauty of Fiji is captured within Matamanoa Island! We spent 5 nights here in early December and found this even more enjoyable than our stay at the Fiji mainland. For a small island, there is so much to see and do! We made the most of a 3 day excursion pass from the dive shop, visited many neighbouring islands, learnt about the Fijian history and culture and felt truly relaxed whilst at the resort. The beachfront bures are absolutely beautiful and you can walk straight onto the beach (which had the best snorkelling!) The staff were all pleasant, especially the receptionists and dive shop team. We look forward to returning to what feels like a home away from home again in the future!
Just returned from our first visit to this beautiful Island! We had the most amazing 6 night holiday here and did not want to leave, the island is stunning and the Fijian people are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Not sure what all the bad reviews on the food are about?! We had no complaints on the food, the meals were tasty and good variety. People need to remember this is a tiny island and everything has to be shipped in so considering that the food was fantastic!! Highly recommend the spa, we had a massage everyday and the view up there is spectacular. We also had a beachfront Bure which was great, lovely beach view and very spacious. The boys at the Deep Blue shop were great, the patience and experience they showed out snorkeling especially with some of the other guests that could hardly swim was outstanding. This truely was an amazing relaxing place to holiday and we can not wait to return. Thank-You Matamanoa Island for making our Christmas Holiday so special.
Been here 3 days. Love this place! Staff is very friendly, and willing to help you with anything. I have a bit of a handicap and they made sure I came up the beach safely and have continued to help me throughout our stay. We stayed at a beachfront Bure and I love it. Well worth it! Would definitely return. Only thing I wouldn’t want to stay more than 3-4 days. Food is great! Every evening is a different menu!
