The value you get for your money is great considering the cleanliness, location and having a very spacious room. We paid around 75 euros for two persons in September which is fair in my opinion although breakfast wasn’t included. I would come again and recommend this place. It’s located by the way near the main train station in city centre.
This hotel is well positioned near the centre and with train station opposite. The hotel staff were very polite. The hotel room was of good standard with large tv and I had a good view over the square. The WiFi was of good quality. There were plenty of eating places within 5-10 minutes walk. There is no parking at the hotel but there is a car park behind it which charged about 11 EUR per day. There was lots of choice at the breakfast buffet.
The location of the hotel next to the station is great, the bed is good and rooms are clean. The personnel during breakfast was very rude. I took a glass to pick water and they actively chased me I took the wrong glass. It was taken out of my hands and I was only allowed to take a very small glass, which was standing next to the other bigger. It was not allowed to take water in a 250ml glass. After pushing it out of my hands the employee puts it back at the clean table for further use. In the end I wasn’t able to have a proper drink during breakfast. From a distance it’s a bit hilareous, but the rudeness and weird behaviour showed the unpoliteness of the people working here. Note for next time: don’t go here
Great hotel at the hauptbahnhof and right in the middle of the City center. Good places to eat just outside the hotel. Good shopping. The check-in was fast, and the room very Nice. Only thing I have to point out: was not able to turn off air condition. Parking is close to hotel.
Picked this hotel based on price, location and good reviews. We booked a double superior room. Check-in staff were friendly and spoke English (what German I learnt at school long forgotten). Found the room to be clean, sweets on bed. Bed was firm with a soft topper. We didn't have tea or coffee facilities in the room although reception gave us a mini kettle. After debate reception allowed us to get some cups from outside the conference rooms (first floor). There was also milk, tea and coffee there so we stocked up. Issue with shower was resolved the same day. Overall we would stay there again as right opposite the train station so dead easy for airport and other links. Lidl over the road too. I never went, but just around the corner and on the high street was a cigar lounge that was recommended. Didn't have breakfast there either but went to one of the bakeries on the high street which was fresh and cheap. All the TV channels were german or dubbed aside from a few news.
I had one overnight there and the hotel is perfectly placed for travelers to Essen. Out of the train station and into my hotel. There persons at eh reception were very helpful and polite and way exceeded my expectation of service in Germany, and was extremely clean. Very well done you guys!!
Really good place, directly opposite the station. In very good condition, but doesn't offer any evening meals only breakfast. Rooms reasonable size and noise proof. Breakfast was good, not outstanding, but overall value for money was very good.
I booked to stay for one night as we were visiting the Essen Christmas market. I have visited Essen a few times but last stayed in this hotel in 2008. I tried to stay in 2015 but the hotel, which used to be a Movenpick hotel, had closed down and squatters had moved in. The hotel opened again in November 2016. I chose the hotel because of the location and proximity to the market. You walk out of the hotel, turn right and you are in the main shopping street with the Christmas market and department store right next door. The train station is literally over the road also. The hotel is beautiful from the outside. It’s one of the reasons I wanted to stay there. Inside is lovely too. Reception staff were helpful and welcoming. Our room was ready, even though it was before check in time, which was great! We went up to our room on the second floor. Our room was lovely and spacious especially considering it was one of the less expensive rooms. It was clean and tidy and we were very happy with it. The breakfast was very yummy but I would have liked more choice for €14.90 each. We opted for late check out as our train was later on in the day. This was €20. I would highly recommend this hotel. We had a great nights sleep, a wonderful breakfast and a great stay!
We visited thishotel to go to the christmas market. The room (exclusive) was big, clean but no atmosphere. Beds were perfect! Staff at the reception is not the friendliest that I have seen. Breakfast is oke for the price (15 euro). Welll.... its at bit expensive for what you get, but that is always the case nowadays in hotels. I would rate this hotel 3 stars if it was not for the location. Right near the trainstation and right in the city centre (parking can only be done in a public parkinglot which is expensive)
If you are goin to stay in this hotel at Essen Spiel. DONT! They do not open any conference rooms so you can try the games you have bought. We where a group of 8 People thet stayed at the hotel. We tryed to reason whit the hotel management, but they only gave us a pricelist with some unreasonable prices for us to rent a conference room. WE WILL NOT RETURN TO THIS HOTEL AGAIN!!!!!!!!
