We booked this hotel during the Medica fair at an outrageous price and I was even more disappointed by the quality of what expected me. The bedroom was sub-standard and offered no comfort whatsoever. The bed was uncomfortable, the heating would not turn off and the windows were of terrible quality so that the noise coming in was making sleep impossible. The hotel seems to be aware of this and provides ear plugs in the bathroom! Breakfast and staff there was the highlight of the stay. The gentleman at the restaurant was super friendly and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Staff at the bar was great as well and dinner was decent for a hotel of such low standards. I will for sure never stay here again as it was impossible to get a good night´s sleep, which for me is the most important thing a hotel needs to provide.
Solid Holiday Inn hotel. Not great but not too bad either. I've seen much much better and some worse. Staff is really nice, friendly and helpful, We got an upgrade due to my IHG status as Elite member. Large room however quite dated. Breakfast is good and a variety of options. During the weekend families with little ones difficult to avoid.
I have spent roughly 70 days at this hotel over the course of 3 months. It really is perfectly located in the stadtkern of Essen, easy to reach the u-bahn, shopping centre across the street etc. Beds quite comfortable, default choice of 2 pillows (hard, soft), wifi worked quite well, good breakfast and a (very small) gym/ sauna - really not much more that you can ask for. My only complaint is that I found the hotel quite noisy (street noise - double glazing helps, but doesn't quite exclude it) and on weekends I found it rather intrusive to have hotel staff visit the room multiple times per day (I understand one visit to clean the room, maybe two if you have someone checking, but anything more than that is a bit excessive). Will be visiting again in the next couple of weeks because the irritations are really minor. Always had service with a smile, and that is really important. Keep it up!
I had to wait over 2 hours to check in at the hotel. The staff were rude and uncooperative. I had posted on the hotel Facebook page and their rude response should summarize their attitude. I was even let down by IHG. The only reason to book this hotel was due to the loyalty to IHG. There are other BETTER hotels at similar price point or less in Essen. Not only i booked this hotel for 3 nights but had recommended to my colleagues as well. We had FIVE ROOMS booked at this hotel at the same time. I was let down by the hotel management and above all by IHG. I did not expect IHG Loyalty Program to be so pathetic !
Just spent two nights at the hotel and already booked another stay for this month. First night was tough as I had a room towards the road and it was too loud (in the morning I understood why there were ear-plugs in the bathroom). Thankfully, they have got a little gym and a sauna, so I could get the lack of sleep out of my system. My mood improved even more when having breakfast: the choice is extremely good, be it bread, cheeses, fresh fruit, warm stuff. Well fed and watered, I turned to the reception asking about changing the room, they checked and I got another one. When entering it, I saw it actually meant an upgrade and was to the rear of the hotel without any noises coming even when opening the windows. Great customer service, thank you so much.
The rooms are extremely hot for some reason. Even with the central heating turned off. The beds are uncomfortable and really short. I'm not a small person but also not so tall that most beds won't fit me. A hotel should know that some customers need taller beds. Same story for the blankets. They are not comfortable at all! Really short and warm. Terrible! Also, the WiFi is extremely unstable. Actually, it doesn't work at all. No, I definitely would not recommend this hotel.
As a mediterrenean person who is used to perfect hotels around, this kind of hotels are not satisfactory enough. But the bad thing is they put the name as if it deserves an holiday resort. Avoid even if you are just giving a day break around.
Had to stay here due to a fair of some sort in Düsseldorf taking up all the regional hotel rooms...therefore had to pay a premium for the privilege of staying at an average HI hotel. The staff were ok for the most part but certainly did not go out if their way to be more friendly and welcoming. No real recognition of having a loyalty status with IHG either... On the positive side, the room was spacious and clean with a good size shower (but no bath). I did not try their breakfast as my rate did not include it nor did my Elite status warrant it (I'd have thought the amount i paid and my Platinum status would get breakfast thrown in). Location is ok - just on outskirts of the real downtown area across the street from what looks like a brand new mall. Maybe I'd try it again when less busy to get a fairer view!!
We were just looking for a place to stay, between Dortmund and Düsseldorf. Since I had an IHG card, this Hotel had a good location and a very reasonable price! The restaurant had ok food but extremely slow service. Nice rooms, easy parking in the GarageBand and very friendly staff at the front desk!!!
Slightly outdated in terms of the room decoration. Excellent location, in the center, very close to shopping mall and restaurants. Friendly staff. Price for the room, breakfast and parking - just too expensive. Constant noise from outside even in back-side rooms.
