This branche of the Courtyard chain is simply good. I know I rated it Average but that's because TripAdvisor doesn't have "Good"...and Very Good it just a little too much. Location in itself is pretty remote, I wouldn't recommend taking a stroll to the cinema or McDonald's which are approx 800 meters away, after dark. But if you have a car, you're just fine. The old city center is just 4 km away. Staff is very friendly and efficient. Breakfast is plentyful and of good quality. The rooms are spacious, clean and have everything you want. The mini bar is empty but there's a small shop in the lobby that sells quite a lot at reasonable prices. One thing that bothers me however is the fact that the hotel charges €2,50 for WiFi. Even the simplest hotel offers this service for free. It's a basic thing nowadays and ought to be complementary ....or simply raise the price and say it's free.
We stayed here while seeing friends although it is possibly better known for the football stadium. It meets all the comfort standards of the Marriott brand. Front desk was extremely helpful and pleasant to us during our stay. Breakfast buffet was excellent. We also had a nice lunch and the bar scene was hopping in the evening. It is a Courtyard but possibly the best we have experienced.
We booked one night here togerher with 2 day pass to the Movie Park. Booking was uncomplicated through the Movie Park Holiday website. Checking in was also easy and smooth, free parking are available outside the hotel. Breakfast was great with various selection of cold cuts, cheese, yoghurt, cereal and muesli, scrambled eggs were very delicious and fresh, waffle mix was available next to the waffle maker to make by ourselves, vegetables, fresh fruits and fruit salad.... all what you need to start your day! Will definitely choose this hotel again if we travel around this area again next time.
This hotel was good, but nothing special. Service was according to DIN norm and rooms were clean with a good bed. Wifi worked very well, but breakfast was very expensive and the restaurant complicated for the young one. We ended up eating at the Harry's bar in the hotel, which was good food.
We booked this hotel for our 5 day Germany Trip based on reviews. Overall the stay was fine - nothing extraordinary in terms of service, just pleasant. Other than reporting that the elevator often doesn't open on our floor when we use it, that was certainly not enough to ruin our stay. However, dealing with the staff post check-out was not great. We booked via hotels.com and my husband's card was charged immediately - fine. A few days after our departure I noticed my card which was used at check-in was charged too for a different/lower amount (it was NOT a pending charge). I called and dealt with an incredibly rude female who kept saying it was an authorization. When I asked how much an incidental hold was she did not respond. I asked to speak with someone else and she told me to call back after 4pm (I called around 10am). She kept telling me it was an authorization and I kept telling her my credit card company said it wasn't. I explained I'm sure they charged my personal card instead of the third party virtual credit card hence the difference in prices being charged to my card and my husbands. Regardless she didn't even check our reservation and kept insisting it was an authorization. I found this incredibly frustrating and agreed to call back later. I call after 5pm and kept getting transferred to voicemails. Long story short I called back a fourth time a few days later and finally got a hold of the manager on duty (I think her name is Kirsten?) who was pleasant, efficient and competent. She spoke with her reservations team and called me back confirming that I was correct. I thanked her for her time and explained I don't mind the issue happening especially if it is rectified because mistakes do happen, however it is HOW the issue was dealt with which completely frustrated me. If I had dealt with the manager on duty from the beginning I would have easily given this at least a four star review. We plan on visiting Germany often as we are close by but I am definitely not returning to this hotel if this is how the hotel operator/front desk treats guests after they leave and collect their money, especially when management is not around. I'm usually a huge fan of Marriott as a brand but this was disappointing and left a negative impression on me.
Travelling through this area and stayed here, right beside football stadium. Did stadium tour organised by Hotel. Stadium a 2 minute walk away. Rooms clean and Marriott esq. Lunch ok. Didn't use gym, but it's on top floor.
I stayed here for 4 nights. The service was very good. Gym is a little small with limited weights but ok, I used it early morning and had it to myself. The restaurant and bar adequate, breakfast was good. The room was spacious and clean.
Excellent hotel with excellent rooms and staff, located right near were i was working and only a short walk to a couple of restaurants and a bar. The green olive restaurant in the hotle is excellent food and service and so is the bar. even thougj i dont speak any german atall i felt very comfortable. Thanks
Slept here for one night! This hotel exceeded my expectations! Loved every minute of it. Definetely coming back. The breakfast buffet was super extensive. The room was beautiful and installed with an ironer and an ironing board. The receptionist was very kind to us. The spa was luxurious, the only thing that was missing was a pool.
I stayed at this Marriott Courtyard property repeatedly in the last 10 months, and it is the same cookie-cutter look & feel as any other Marriott Courtyard around the globe. So, for travelers whose priority is to have familiar, US-type service levels and accomodation this is a very safe bet. PROS: Located right by the Schalke 04 Veltins Arena soccer stadium Good connections to major traffic routes Good med-cuisine restaurant CONS: When there is an event (soccer, music etc.) at the aforementioned stadium the whole area turns into a zoo making parking difficult and the hotel bar / lobby / restaurant often way overcrowded and noisy Unless you are a soccer fan there is nothing else of significance to do within convenient walking-distance of the hotel. Better to have local transportation The hotel's "gym" consists of a far outdated assembly of a bit of low-end cardio pieces, some dumbbells and 1 rusty chest press all compressed into a tiny space. Whoever designed this gym and was in charge of equipment and maintenance over time severely lacks competence in that area
