I was skeptical about staying here at first based on the reviews they appeared to be a hit and miss. If you want luxury this may not be the place for you. We were there for a short time not a long time and it was suitable for my needs. The room is just what you see online. The only complaint is that the first night it was a bit warm. After that it was right on time. The rooms were cleaned every day.I wished they had decorated my room for my birthday but that was okay. The view was very nice and I shouted from the balcony on my birthday. The staff were friendly. I saw reviews about the language barrier, please be patient, they will find someone to help you. We had no issues with staff speaking English. I enjoyed the inside and outside bar. Brenda, Felipe, Bryan, Juan, are just a few that made my birthday so memorable! The breakfast and dinner was very good. Lunch was mid. Overall I enjoyed my stay and so did the group I was with. Find Carlos for a great spa service. My massage by Jaqueline was amazing. There is plenty to do here. If you need a sign to book here do it! Although the new site next door is opening October 4. I will be back soon. Thank you Rui!

I’ve been going ro Riu Palace in Guanacaste for years now and I even got married there back in 2018! I always love the food, the cleanliness, and the warm and friendly staff. The pools are so nice and heated and the drinks are awesome. Now for the cons of the place. There’s a jacuzzi tub in the middle of every room that is just a nuisance and no one ever uses. Especially as a wheelchair-user, it should be removed from the accessible rooms to give more space to get around. The hotel does not offer a beach wheelchair to get onto the beach and the staff is unwilling to help you get to the beach. It doesn’t cost that much to get a beach wheelchair and it would make the hotel property more accessible for all. There is also a lot of vendors on the beach not only in one section in the entrance (like a flea market) but also they come up to anywhere you are sitting to sell you something. If I wanted to buy something I would go to them. The Riu Palace should privately buy that section of the beach and shield the guests. At night it’s kind of scary to walk around the pool areas or to the Papagayo restaurant because there is ZERO security and random strangers come out of the beach and ask to use the bathrooms at the restaurants or just roam around. My uncle has a random guy take a picture of him coming out of the Papagayo restaurant, which was creepy. Since the beach is not privately owned by the hotel, any stranger can be on it day or night. Security must be hired to protect us.

The entrance (street) to the property need to be fix, the entertainers need better equipment so they can do a better job. The food was great, staff very friendly, love that it had many pools to choose from. The view of nature was great specially from our room. Didn't go in the beach much because of the rain, the water was a bit dirty, but we enjoy the long walk.

I would like to share some feedback regarding my recent stay. While the facility itself was pleasant and the outdoor areas, particularly the pool and beach, were beautiful, there were several issues that impacted our experience. First, the TV in my room was not working. I reported this issue several times, but unfortunately, it was never addressed. The rooms themselves also felt outdated and in need of upgrades. At the buffet restaurant, my family and I were told we could not eat there and were directed to another one. This was especially inconvenient as we had an excursion scheduled and needed to eat beforehand. Being asked to leave felt discourteous, and it left us with a negative impression. Furthermore, even when seated at the restaurant, it took a long time to receive basic items such as drinks and napkins. In addition, the alcoholic drinks served at the resort were watered down, and despite asking for better-quality tequila, it was never provided. Overall, while the outdoor facilities were beautiful, I feel the service, attentiveness, room quality, and drink offerings need improvement to match the standard one expects at your property.
