This is an amazing old hotel with 20 ft ceilings and original doors and hardware. The interior courtyard is open to the sky. The location adjacent to the Zocalo is great, but can be noisy at night. Guests should plan on seeing the Zorro show on the other side of the Zocalo.

Even though we reserved a room 3 months in advance we were given a room facing the street. We then requested a room toward the back but were told the street noise would end around 9 pm. We were tired from a 6 hour drive but said OK. Wrong! The street noise could not be blocked out and continued until the wee hours of the morning. When we tried the in room safe the lady said "it doesn't work" no reason, no alternative. When opening the side door to the balcony the window shade fell between the top of the door and the wall and since that the door was about 10 feet tall, we could not close the door. There was no seal at the bottom of the shower door so water came out onto the bathroom floor. Not a good experience.

Right on the main square. Beautiful old building, lovely room. The clock in the square seemed to ring throughput the night, heard it when awake, didn't actually wake me, but might if you're a light sleeper.

(English below) En general, es un hermoso hotel justo en el medio de todo lo que El Fuerte tiene para ofrecer. La MAYOR excepción = no hay servicio de transporte o taxi desde El Chepe... y todos los demás hoteles tienen uno. Los que nos quedamos en Santa Elena fuimos los únicos que quedamos atrás una vez que se fueron todos los taxis autorizados por la ciudad. Afortunadamente, los taxis prometieron regresar por nosotros y, lo que es más importante, no estábamos solo nosotros dos sentados allí en el calor esperando solos. El hotel está limpio, el restaurante por dentro es delicioso. El personal es amable, pero no muy servicial cuando estás buscando excursiones. Inglés: Overall, it's a beautiful hotel smack in the middle of all that El Fuerte has to offer. The MAJOR exception = there is no shuttle or taxi service from El Chepe... and every single other hotel has one. Those of us staying at Santa Elena were the only people left behind once all of the city sanctioned taxis left. Luckily, the taxis promised to come back for us, and more importantly, there weren't just the two of us sitting there in the heat waiting alone. The hotel is clean, the restaurant inside is delicious. The staff are friendly, but not terribly helpful when you're looking for excursions.
